The Body Fat Percentage, is a well recognised measure of your of health. A high percentage of body fat can increase the risk of diabetes, cardiovascular and other health conditions. The ideal body fat percentage is different for men and women and it varies with age. Like the majority of the global population, mine was too high. This video talks about how I reduced my body fat percentage by just under a third in 14 months, with exercise and changes to my eating and lifestyle habits.
The Muscle-Up exercise performed in the video, is an example of the calisthenics exercises that helped me reduce my body fat percentage. I have recently uploaded a video which is a tutorial for this skill.
• The Muscle Up Tutorial...
I will reply to every comment, so please let me know how you get on and if you find this video useful. I have tried to keep it simple.

That is pretty common as the skeletal muscles are stronger, and the missing weight makes it that much easier for the muscle to erect your spine.

Well done sir, you're an inspiration. I'm 51, used to rock climb when young and getting back into it after 20 years. I've lost 4kg, and BMI 21, but I'm aiming to get lower. When I was 30 I could do a 1 arm pull up, but no way now. Getting the climbing grades back up, now doing F6c+ / 7a. Need to eat less. Eat well, but smaller portions. Reduce carbs, especially fat. Doing weights twice a week.
@KhattaRapidus

Fastest way is changing the types of fats you eat and learning to control carbohydrate types, timing. You cannot simply reduce dietary fat/sugar and expect to get shredded. Although that is a necessary step. These are my words. Take them as you will.

I think doing muscle ups the way you have been doing them is impressive! I also think that if you incorporated a resistance band into every other muscle up wokrput or even just at the end when you start failing, you'd make gains quicker. I'm 41 this year and have been lifting for about 2 years on and off but since January, I'm taking it the next level. Loosing body fat and doing cardio. You have inspired me to start muscle ups in the spring in a nearby workout park. I used to train muscle ups a few years back. Thanks 👊

I am 62 and have been watching your videos. Very impressive what uoh have accomplished, so I just subscribed. My goals are strength endurance (high reps) to prepare for a mock PRMC PFT test, so I am doing high reps, push-ups, inverted rows, sit ups, dips, air squats, etc.. How often did you workout each exercise when you started, and how frequently do you train them now? Keep up the inspirational training for we seniors.

When I first started I was just doing push-ups, most days. After a year I started to add in pull-up. I was just doing what I was enjoying, with no real plan or goal. Now my workouts are usually 3 times a week, and more structured. However, I like to keep it interesting, so I might do a 6 week weighted pull up program, followed by a high reps program. Or sometimes, I like to do ten sets ten, push-ups, dips, pull-ups, squats, chin-ups and then 100 biceps curls with each arm. So basically 700 reps altogether. Good luck with what you are doing!

You pretty much eat how I eat nowadays, coffee is out for me as well as it gives me bad stomach aches. I have fasting days as well, when I can cope! I can definately see a change in your shape and the way you hold yourself

Mike, thanks so much for leaving that comment. I’m seriously moved by your observations. I too do a little fasting, but it’s a struggle, but I am getting better. Enjoyed my Sunday toast today, but didn’t over eat, or have an evening meal.. so still a work in progress.

Congratulations! And I agree, these machines working with electrical resistance are only good for before-and-now comparisons with yourself. One doesn't have to care about the absolute value one bit. I once fooled such a machine by having it take my measurements, then drinking one liter of water, and taking my measurements again. And the result was a slightly higher bodyfat percentage reading, despite the fact that my actual bodyfat percentage was slightly lower now, because I had added one kilogram of non-fat mass to my bodyweight. But since the water was still in my stomach, it didn't change the electrical resistance of my extremities, so the machine's algorithm drew the wrong conclusion 😁

That’s interesting to know. I must admit, for the cost of just one U.K. pound, a go, well was 70p, but didn’t give me any change, I wasn’t expecting perfection, just a guide. But still happy with that. I actually took a reading a month earlier and it was all good, showing I was progressing in the right direction.

Good work. Buy a grip strength measurement meter. Grip strength is a great way to measure your total androgen status (testosterone). It’s like a real time monitor. They are cheap too. My max is 72.5kgs at 44 years old. I started eating better and my readings increased. I was around 53 to 57 kegs at first.

Fantastic videos! You're doing so well 💪 Out of the two - rings or bar, which do you think is better overall? Do you have a bar that you'd recommend? I have quite a cheap bar outside, but I'm looking at upgrading to something more substantial.

Thanks for you comment. Personally, my favourite is the bar muscle up. Probably because I can do more if them. My outdoor bar is awesome, I’d recommend it. It’s listed my Amazon Store Front, in my bio… Anything like that, that’s sturdy, and big enough to do a muscle up is a must for me.

Hi well done great effort and results! I just wanted to ask you about the rest days..when you started out did you leave one or two days between sessions or was it a daily effort? Cheers Dave
@funwithcalisthenics
@funwithcalisthenics 4 ай бұрын
Hi Dave, when I started out, my workouts where shorter, all body weight, mainly push-ups… so recovery was easier. So I tried to do something about 5 days a week. If I was tired from push-ups, I’d focus on squats.. etc. But all low reps at the beginning. Built up really slowly. These days, I try and have a decent work out three days a week. And maybe two days of practising skills etc. Then two complete rest days. The most important bit being the rest days and the three good session. As I get older, recovery seems more important!

Even if those fat scales arent the most accurate, if they are consistent and youre using the same one, then it's a decent indicator. Also, I've found that taking pictures of yourself to see how your body composition has changed can help determine whats been working as well.

Btw also important to look at cardio. My resting pulse is 55bpm, my BP is 95/55 (incredibly low for an adult, usually this low BP is only found in teenagers and kids, but low BP is the simplest measure of metabolic health).
