Love this. I went from a 5 day workweek down to 3 days. I found a place where I could work 10 hour days and told them I was only able to work 3 days. So yes my income dropped but I still put in 30 hours a week and now have 4 ‘free’ days. My free time is worth so much more than the missed income.

That is so cool! Such a smart approach for creating more free time 😊 You are absolutely right: time is worth so much more than a little bit of money. I am very happy that you found this arrangement for yourself 🙏

I was feeling like I had no time to myself. I talked to my manager to work 4 days instead of 5... I will be working 9 hrs but I gain an extra day off, and I only lose 4 hrs on my paycheck 😊

@@zencityvibesbecause there was a time when 16 and 18 hr days were the standard. The 8 hr workday was actually revolutionary back in the day, but it hasn’t been changed since its inception so now we have 8 hr days

I tried it for four (4) months. And I don't get it. I would be home at 5:35pm... ...when, where, what? If I wanted to clean my shower or invite someone for a cup of coffee.......when? How? I would eat - so now it's already 6:20pm. Do the dishes, complain to my significant other about work, change clothes, maybe do the laundry... *Before you know it's 9pm and you start thinking about the following day (meetings, gossip, bullying, meaningless **_tasks_** 🙄...)* We are slaves with nice cars and cellphones. And nicer houses than our ancestor had. But then again: *you don't enjoy your house because you're at the office!!!!!! 😪*

Things I don’t do anymore is say yes to things that will deplete me of energy just because I don’t want to hurt someone’s feeling or expectations. I used to go the extra mile on everything. Now I just do what I can and no more.

I adopted slow living inadvertently by respecting myself, my time and setting boundaries. I’m 48 and as I get older I realize self care and making my mental health a priority and it’s okay to say no. At work I decided that I wouldn’t stay over to finish something that I could complete the next morning. It’s letting a couple phone calls go to voicemail and calling them back later. It’s letting an email sit in my inbox until I finish my current task. For me slow living has been reading a good book with a cup of coffee instead of watching mindless TV. Also I’m an artist and painter so I love to disconnect and just paint a picture once in a while. It’s also meant leaving social media in 2024 which gives me so much more free time to be more productive. Love your channel!!

Those are some extremely valuable habits when it comes to being in a healthy place at work. Setting clear boundaries and reinforcing them if necessary is so important. Not many people actually do this I feel. I also love your way of relaxing and disconnecting while painting. Art is such an amazing way of getting the mind off something and relax. That is really cool ☺

Hey, same. I work 7 days a week (2 jobs) and average about 60 hours a week. Fortunately I've gotten pretty good at listening to my body and prioritizing recovery. I am still able to make the time to do most of what I want to do, and if not, visualizing myself doing it is usually enough to suffice.

I really like my job, but my boss would never allow me to go down to 4 days a week. Instead, I've been able to change my shift schedule from the 8am-4:30pm shift to the 6am-2:30pm shift. A 2 hour difference may not seem like a lot, but it means I get off work before rush hour traffic starts, so I'm home in 25 minutes instead of 1.5 hours. So much time is left in my day to do all sorts of things, I actually feel like I have time for my hobbies now.

I am blessed to be able to work at home, so even though it’s a structured environment, I get to really be present and meditate, journal or go on walks in my neighborhood on breaks and lunches. Also, adopting the belief “I do what I can and let go of the rest” really helped me release personal responsibility for how the company is doing. I do what I can to the best of my ability with good quality and move on with my day. And when I log off for the day, my mind is in the present and not on work. I leave work at work. Thank you for this video, something that actually resonates🤍

We moved to a rural area in 2020 during the pandemic with 2 kids. At first I struggled with living outside of the city, but now I embrace country living. I am trying to retrain my brain to enjoy slow living. I don't think completely isolating ourselves is healthy. But just enjoying the moment and living in the present is so important. Our digital age is toxic to our brains in a lot of ways, especially for our kids. We need to become more aware of this topic as a society!

Omg yeah it's very depressing the way we have to live. No free will really. I used to work 11hour shifts Mo-Fri and then 5hours every weekend. Plus public holidays. The few bucks overtime was so not worth it. And I had no choice I had to work. I was so burned out to the point that I had to resign. They didn't even care they would rather have unhappy personnel resigning every few months. I was so unhappy, I'm slowing recovering but the PTSD is real x

Thank you. This was a nice video. What I struggle with is the feeling of "I have to..." or "I should be..." The expectations of childhood and then adulthood is a big pressure. We absorb the energies around us. I am excited for you that the energy you have to feed on is of natural time. There is still the forward movement, but not the voices of "what if you don't get this done, what will they think?" You can hear your own thoughts and not the possible thoughts of others and letting that rule your soul. Thanks again!

I like having more time to accomplish things I need and want to do at home but like you said...unfortunately it creates a financial problem. The upside of that is you really learn to live minimally...which is fine with me. It is so good to spend time outdoors...I find it really does help in reducing stress. Totally agree with you. People are always telling me I need to travel and have holidays. No. They stress me and cause me anxiety not joy. People tell me I need to have a tv and socialise more. No. I haven’t watched tv for 18 years I don’t want to start now. People can exhaust me so I need to be careful with how much time I spend with people. I’m always being told, have a kindle not books. No, I don’t enjoy having to charge things. I like to borrow books to read and share amongst friends. Always being told I need to be online with banking on my phone. No. I don’t want to. I love a simple life. I like simple food. A clean and clear house. I have 13 items of clothing. I don’t need to shop for ‘enjoyment’. I don’t want to go out for coffee. I like to walk down the beach not go the gym. People mean well but they exhaust me sometimes with what they believe I should be doing. I’m not like them. I don’t enjoy constant stimulus. I need alot of time to myself. I like to wake at 5.30am when the world is still and quiet. I do that every single day. People don’t understand that. They tell me I should lie in at the weekends. Why? I don’t understand this. I’m finally getting through to people. Slowly but surely they’re realising I’m different to them and accepting that. It’s a slow process. People often mistake the way I like to live as being sad or depressed, because I don’t want to be doing more. In fact I’m probably more content than most. Good luck to everyone on their journey.❤

Cutting out my expenses only gets me so far and I realised the problem is that I earn too little. But still, I will have free days in the week to recharge but also the peace of mind of almost earning double the amount I now have.

I just have a lot of difficulty in letting go things, especially if I think I could have done them before without too many problems and self-limitations of the old me.

I absolutely struggle with that too sometimes, I think most people do 😞 I try to just keep looking forward and giving my best while also being gentle to myself. I can't change the past (even if I'd like to sometimes) but can try to make an effort in the future. I hope you have a great day ☺🙏

I live on the east coast of Florida and there is no nature around me. I hate living near so many people I want to move to the mountains so bad but I’m stuck here as my husband is from here. We work too much too. I wish I could move

I totally see that living in an area that you don't find comfortable is super frustrating! I hope that you can make the move somewhen and find a place that you like to live in ☺ Greetings from the Swiss countryside 🍀

Cassandra - You are not "stuck there" Your desire to live in an environment you are comfortable in is as important as your husband's desire. A compromise would be respectful to both of you.

Good video, had a wonderful impact on my situation that I'm in. Is there any way to get in contact with you? I live in Germany, so language wouldn't be a problem :)

I wish the option to reduce work days / hours was provided where I live. Is this an European thing?

I think in scandinavian countries and here in Switzerland it is becoming more and more popular ☺ I don't know about other European countries though if I'm honest.

In most of countries of European Union its pretty possible, just it works differently from country to country..for example in Germany you can afford it due to high standard, in Croatia where I am from standard is not so high but 90% of population owns a home so its possible..

Why are workplaces obsessed with 9-5 , 40 hour week ? Why not say when the works done go home. In my last job we just waited around for the last hour doing nothing.

You lost me at "I reduced my work week" as an American that statement is like saying "I parked my bicycle in the cheek of a caterpillars bazooka" it's just not a possibility.

Exactly! I have no control over my work schedule; no way would my employer allow me to cut back on hours. We are told we need to work as many hours needed to get the job done (salary job). Everyone ends up working more than the scheduled/required 40 hrs/wk just to meet work demands and remain employed.

@@SLLoo-lg7otman, that sounds depressing. I could not deal with that. The older I get, the more I realise that a lot of corporations demands are just laughably ridiculous.
