At $1.6 million, the Tour boasts the richest prize fund ever for a series of online chess events. Players from around the world compete to win 9 titles and the crown of overall Tour Champion. Nowhere else has this level of competition.
Players compete in 6 “Regular” and 3 “Major” online rapid chess tournaments spread out over the Tour season. Two Regulars will be followed by a Major with the pattern repeated until all are completed. Regulars will feature 16 players in a prelim round and then only 8 players qualify to the knockout. Majors will feature 8 qualifying players in a simple all-play-all format. Cash prizes are available for placings in each event. The player who finishes top of the Tour leaderboard will be declared the overall Tour Champion.

A totally amazing game. I don’t think I’ve ever seen a chess game where so many pieces where interlocked and actively defending and/or attacking at the same time. Also Brilliant commentary, thanks Agadmator.

Probably a mistake to open with the Ruy Lopez against Nepo, after the major battles he had with Magnus in Classical Championship. With all the prepping involved, plus the grind of those games, he's got lots of practice exploring positions after book.

@Rock Solid I'm saying he had the same scenario with the queen taking on exact same spot so the outcome would be exactly the same because it blocks the kings escape route from the queen bishop battery. So any piece that takes there ends in same exact check mate. But I hear you and nothing wrong with explaining as some may have been wondering that.

I think the idea behind Bxg6 (at 3:15) wanst to just double black's pawn, but to remove the knight that could go Nh4 to pile up on the f3. At least that's what I was looking at even before you showed the capture. Maybe Andrey had a different idea altogether...
