You mean the "chorus"......... ":^) "I could sing of Your love forever".......X 8. We all do it to make the point stick. BTW: Most christian songwriters don't realize that God wants to hear new songs too. He gave us creativity and we've squandered it for the most part. The world has more ingenuity but not a better subject to sing about....... been there done that.

What is the purpose of our existence? Is it simply to have a good job, build a family, and enjoy life? Is that all there is? Certainly not. We’re made for so much more. Your purpose is to know God. After we die, the Bible says we’ll face God as our Judge. Have you ever rebelled (sinned) against God? Examine yourself by God’s Law, the Ten Commandments. Have you ever told a lie? Ever stolen (the value is irrelevant)? Jesus said, “Whoever looks at a woman to lust for her has already committed adultery with her in his heart.” In God’s courtroom, our sins are very serious crimes. They’re so evil that the just punishment is death and eternity in a terrible place called Hell. The Bible says that God takes no pleasure in the death of the wicked. He is rich in mercy and provided a Savior: “God so loved the world that He gave His only begotten Son, that whoever believes in Him should not perish but have everlasting life.” Jesus Christ died on the cross, paying the death penalty for sinners. He then rose from the dead three days later, defeating death. Hundreds saw Him after His resurrection; it’s no fairy tale. Jesus fulfilled all the prophecies about the promised Savior, written in the Holy Scriptures hundreds of years before His birth. Religious rites, sacred traditions, or attending church can’t save you. Salvation is a free gift of God that you can’t earn. To know God and have your sins forgiven, do what the Bible says: repent and believe. Trust in Jesus as you’d trust in a parachute-don’t just “believe” it can save you, put it on and cling to it with all of your being. Wholeheartedly commit yourself to following Christ, and turn your back on sin. Then show your gratitude by obeying His command to be baptized. Be sure to also join a Christian church and read the Bible daily. God will never let you down@Bigg GIB'S fun house

I think it's a good song if you have trouble believing God is a good father and that you are loved by Him, but for someone who has no trouble believing that all that repetition really gets old by the second time you hear the song. I do like it, but that's why I never actually listen to it, and if they just switched the repeated lyrics with something else it would've been just fine. Simplicity is fine, but to repeat it so many times like a chant... I don't like chants...

I'm a musician. (Organist/pianist,keyboardist) and have been playing in church since I was 12yrs old. (I'm 61 now) I've played for almost every denomination you can name, as well as schools, community groups, soloists, competitions, voice students, colleges, theaters musicals, clubs, you name it, I've been there. But, playing in church, was where my heart was. But, I left the church a few years ago, because I didnt seem to fit "in" any longer. The rock bands, special lighting, mood settings, fog machines, worship team leaders who were more like rock "idols", etc. took me to a place whwre I didnt feel like I was in cburch any longer. It was more like my theater days, and the church was now NO different than any theater I played in. Worshiping the Most Holy One of Isreal should be so much more than the trite festival type "worship" that is now in the modern day church. The great hymns are gone, speaking and singjng words of knowledge and meaning are missing, and praying to the Most High has become a trendy, fun filled rock concert, instead of worshiping the One True HOLY LORD. I tried to fit in, and did for several years, but it kept getting more secular each year, to where there was no difference between a rock concert in a theater, and "church". Its nice to see your channel saying some of these things, thank you so much.

We've just had a little daughter and I really have struggled with not taking her to church regularly when church was such a large part of my life going up and well into my 20s. I don't know why but it just seems like it has changed and we are left behind. I am praying that we find community and other Christians that feel this way, because I feel very alone at the moment.

The problem with most 'Contemporary Christian Music' is that it has abandoned Jesus. It stews on struggles; or refers to some being that could just as easily be a romantic partner, rather than the Creator Almighty. It tries so hard to be 'seeker-sensitive' that it fails to deliver Who people are seeking. It seeks to remake God as needing man, instead of man needing God. Some of it seems to lack reverence. The fear of the Lord is the beginning of wisdom. There does not seem to be an honest understanding of the desperate straits that man is in, nor of the magnitude of God's grace and mercy in delivering us from Hell. Much of what is passed off as Christian music only vaguely fits the bill. It is pop music first, and Christian second. We need to get to a place where we understand that God is to be feared. We have grace and mercy, yes; but the Bible warns very strongly about the dangers of using that grace as an excuse to go along with the world Monday through Saturday, and the results of being a Christian in word only. We need music which recognizes that regardless of our struggles, we are called to be holy and righteous even if it costs us everything. God is not a genie, or a magic fairy Who does our wishes. We are His creation, made to do His wishes, and our music should reflect that.

I mean Christian music is literally at this point worse than pop music in regards to formulaic writing, as funny as this video was it's only funny because it's completely true. They know since they can push away criticism by playing the "God card" of music; they can write absolutely bland and meaningless music and Christians will still listen to it. The whole idea is "well it's easy to listen to and sing along to, and it's coming from a good place", and then because of that we can completely ignore just how bland it is because it says the word God in it. It's kinda disgusting to me, but idk. Anyone who gets offended by that is stupid, because it's the truth.

I'm late to reply, but your spot on. I don't see what other's see in CCM nowadays, I've been listening to CCM for a little over 20 years and the mid 2000s changed everything. I can't stand Air1 or Klove any more :/ I used to have those on 24-7, now it's Metal all the way. My friends have moved on to Rap or Hard core bands, CCM is just so awful that more and more are turning away from it. Non Christians don't even listen to CCM at all, I've met more metal heads that aren't saved, that listen to Christian metal ( yes there's a lot of bands out there, especially from Metal Core through Black ) and are totally fine with it. Trying to find someone who isn't a Christian that listens to Newsboys or has even heard of them is a challenge in and of itself. Nuff said.

RockyMtn Hiker we see the way we are. Paul had an encounter with Christ- which could be seen as God “touching his heart”. And until we go past religious routine to actually falling in love-through the Holy Spirit - with all that Jesus is, Christ-like living would be elusive and frustrating. Guess what I’m trying to say is: you gotta stop processing those lyrics through sensual filters. They speak more to having a personal walk with God, where your heart is open to Him and His word, beyond just being perfunctory “Christians”

In this verse, Samuel, one of the early leaders of Israel, orders genocide against a neighbouring people: “This is what the Lord Almighty says... ‘Now go and strike Amalek and devote to destruction all that they have. Do not spare them, but kill both man and woman, child and infant, ox and sheep, camel and donkey.’” (1 Samuel 15:3)The ending of Psalm 137, a psalm which was made into a disco calypso hit by Boney M, is often omitted from readings in church: “Happy is he who repays you for what you have done to us - he who seizes your infants and dashes them against the rocks.” (Psalm 137:9)The Lord is speaking to Abraham in this story where God commands him to sacrifice his son: ‘Take your son, your only son Isaac, whom you love, and go to the land of Moriah, and offer him there as a burnt-offering on one of the mountains that I shall show you.’ (Genesis 22:2)

It is hard to find good Christian music. Although I've found myself liking some of the mainstream music and adding it to my playlist, I end up finding myself wanting more of the old hymns and not the "oh poor me and my vague issue" stuff. I want more praise music that just sings about God being just awesome. It's not supposed to be about us anyway, and if it is, shouldn't the songs be more specific as to what we should do to live a passionate and Christlike life? I also really like the artists from the 60s to the 80s when music in general was developing more. There's Larry Norman and Petra, who have made a lot of profound songs. Sorry for the rant but this video opened the floodgates. *WATER REFERENCE*

There's plenty of good Christian music out there. Examples: Danny Gokey, Elevation Worship, Lacrae, Housefire 3, Casting Crowns, Israel Houghton, Micah Stampley, Fred Hammond, NF, Andy Mineo, Trip Lee, Skillet etc. The problem with Christian music, is that the radio likes playing the same songs repeatedly from generic artists, so people are lead to believe that all Christian music sucks.

I often struggle to find good modern Christian music even when browsing Tidal or researching online. Most of my favorites come from older bands such as Jars of Clay, PFR, DC Talk, Petra, and Creed. In all seriousness, why does everyone make a version of everyone else's song? I hear the same song by 5 different artists. What's the deal?

It's not just the Christian music industry. Anyone remember "I swear" done by both All-4-one and John Michael Montgomery? Any given song can be used by multiple groups depending on the writers and contract deals.

Westdog 01 I’m of that opinion. Having played in a church band for 4 years, there was clearly a formula that was used. Artists doing covers is also more rampant in Christian music than any other genre of music I’m aware of. Literally 5 or more versions of the same song is crazy. If I listen to CCM it’s only because I have my daughter with me. I get nothing from the lyrics or musical ideas.

I do feel this way about a lot of Christian music and that's why I fell in love with Phil Wickham. I'll admit, some of his songs are generic, but I love the energy in his music, and quite a lot of them are really personal and written from the heart that true Christians can relate to.

This is going to sound weird but the way I judge christian products is if it feels like they are trying to sell me it just cause I'm a christian; basically creating something to reach a demographic just to make money. if I feel that in your music, book, movie etc. I'm not going to like it. Also when the Christian industry is CONSTANTLY happy and fluffy. Y'all life hurts. The psalms are not just praises but laments which always end in praise. This is why I like christian rock and rap because they talk about real issues but still end in praise.

YES! NAILED IT! What really bothers me is that there are also tons of talented and original Christian bands out there playing on the side, but they fall under the same umbrella term. To me that's like not making a distinction between funk and disco. Can we have a term for the kind of Christian music that all sounds the same, talks about the same stuff, and has the same set of chords, and have a different term for a Christian music that's actually music?

thanks John for making this video. I am Musician who is Christian who has been trying to put a band together for 5 years. My music comes from the heart, Is rock and will have no repetitive lyrics that are empty. I know that sells records. But as God knows my heart he knows the kind of music I listen too and want to write and how it will reach people

Every pastor preaches to listen to Christian music instead of “secular music” 🤦🏽‍♂️, but this video kind of describes why I don’t for a reason. I am a musician, but musically I can’t stand listening to songs that sound the same. Not here to hate btw. Now if radio channels like the Fish in my state of GA (idk if they play the fish anywhere else) plays like Black Choir Gospel, ooooo I’d pull over to the side of the road just to get dancing and singing
