Hi Dave! You did a fantastic job on a major maintenance project that I would never even attempt myself! I know you must be thrilled to have it back together and running. Looking forward to seeing you get caught up on your tractor therapy!

Congratulations Dave on a monumental undertaking. How nice does it feel to be back in the seat. Tractor therapy indeed. So glad for you that this major undertaking is finally over. If you really want to punish yourself, google that nut and thread size for your model tractor... :-). On the other hand, perhaps not. I think it's quite commendable that your first task was to help out your neighbor. Enjoy the fruits of your labors my friend. So happy to see you back in the seat. !!

That was one heck of a tractor maintenance job you did, Dave. If I had done that, I think I would have had some pieces-parts left over. You taught us all a lesson that we can do it but we must be patient and slow down when disassembling parts in order to remember how a unit was taken apart. Good seeing you on the tractor doing what you really enjoy doing. Hope your tractor continues to run smoothly as it seems to be doing now. Be safe and be well, my brother. 👍🏽🙂

Great to see it back together Dave! I'm kind of the same way, I prefer to work on and fix my own stuff. I as well am by no means a mechanic, but I can usually figure out what needs to be done. Many people don't understand "tractor therapy". Being able to get my "therapy" helped to get through some difficult times this last month. A lot of times out on our property I'll just stop, shut the machine down and just reflect. There is just something about being on a machine out in the woods that brings peace and comfort.
@daveknowshow
@daveknowshow 3 жыл бұрын
Amen brother I know what you mean. I stop the machine back at the spring in the woods and just sit and listen to the water flow. its really nice. the ticks are horrible right now but well worth it. I pulled about 5 ticks that one day moving brush in the woods.

I usually have the other problem Dave. I find myself short of parts, not long on them. it used to be when I was a kid, that we didn't have all the shops around to go to with stuff. My paternal grandfather was a can do type of guy. He taught himself how to do almost everything. He was a really good carpenter, plumber, electrician, welder, and mechanic. That guy could do anything. You remind me a lot of him. Enjoyed this series Dave. Really good to hear from you. I watched this video last night but we had a lot of internet service interruptions due to the extreme heat wave we are having. I was coming in after getting everything done last night when some kind of small bee or stinging insect flew into my right eye and stung me right on the eye ball. That was some kind of pain right there, I mean to tell you. Lucky for me, Barb is a veterinarian and got me taken care of right away. It is still pretty sore this morning but I can see fine. So with that, I will see you for the next one and am feeling blessed that I didn't lose my vision in that eye or even lose the eye. Take care brother.

Glad to see it back running again Dave!! I have a question. I'm going to get a tractor in the next few months and think the L3901 is the one for me but the question is shuttle shift or hydro? I'm leaning towards shuttle. What are your thoughts?
@daveknowshow
@daveknowshow 3 жыл бұрын
I like the shuttle. had trouble with one MX5100 I think it was. we put the cheap non kubota hydraulic fluid in it and it never shuttle shifted correctly again. you really cant go wrong with either shuttle or HST I like how the HST goes from forward to reverse much faster and smoother. if memory serves me correctly and you may want to verify this. the shuttle has a lower gear for crawling that the HST does not have. if I could design the HST it would have a 4 speed tranny with a granny gear range equal to a gear drive tractor. the 3901 hst has a three speed tranny. that is what I miss most between a gear drive and the HST. SOME of the shuttle shift models in the M series have a plug and play gear reduction kit you can just plug into the tranny. other models the low gear needs installing at the dealer and its a big deal. mainly these low granny gears are used with "Land planers" not to be confused with a " landplane" which is no where near the same. land plane run about 1500 bucks a land planer runs over a hundred grand. I hope the HST is more reliable than the shuttle. so far I have had zero issues "knock on wood" I have seen issues with shuttle shift. the older ones used linkage and the linkage would jam up over time. sort of like the "old three on the tree" if you remember or know what that is. I'm not sure how the newer shuttle works. it may still be linkage or it may be electrically shifted. either of which can be flawless or problematic. I would certainly ask the service tech personally at the dealer. dont hesitate to ask for a private meeting with the kubota service tech at the dealer you are buying from. you can ask him all sorts of questions and you will likely get a straight answer. I pick their brain all the time. when I cant get my son to answer the phone I head to the dealer drive past the show room to the back and ask the tech. hope this helps. so far I absolutely LOVE my HST.
