Great vid , thanks for sharing your honest opinions and tips. Our 12 month trip started 4 years ago! Still with no planned end date! We travel and work along the way and agree with all your tips especially the groceries, fuel & accommodation. We also like to follow the old rule K.I.S.S - keep it simple stupid 😆 Happy travels guys 👍🏻

Some really good tips, thanks. Buying "in season" food and "on special" items saves heaps too; it all adds up. I made an accounting form in Google Forms and did some changes to the spreadsheet to help with keeping track on spendings. Then I put this link to my home screen on the phone. All i do is open the "App" fill in the form and save, I can look at the spread sheed any time and keep a track on spending, it really makes a difference and so easy. Average spend for us is $1100 a month for everything (we don't drink, so there's a good saving). Thanks for sharing your stories and ideas.

Good video. Agree. Speaking as a Grey Nomad who travels 9 to 10 months per year the easiest way to blow your budget is all the incidental items such as more pub meals, more visits to the local bakery and entry fees which we would not normally spend while at home.

Great video. We've been on the road for over 10 months. I'm in awe how your accommodation costs can be so low. Even free or low cost camping has 'donation' costs which add up to more than $40 a week for us. We're heading home after our anticlockwise loop; and then doing Tasmania but doing the upgrades you talk about in the other videos in this series which juxtaposed nicely with your Tasmanian trip tips 😀

Thank you for the honest video team! We love your content. We are 4 months into our trip, we have not long crossed the recently graded Plenty from Alice (thanks for all your videos on those areas we rewatched them all.) You are right, it’s the extra things, for us a beer (or three) and meal at a great country pub, that really add up. We are averaging about $1100 a week. This is currently a 12 month trip so we are enjoying ourselves and spending our savings. But we are already wondering how we will ever go back to the routine of work life. You are living the dream! Thank you again, hope to see you on the road somewhere.

Thanks guys for the truth telling so refreshing. Couple of notes from some old timers: age plays an important part of yr financial decisions. Always seek advice. The older you are the more important it becomes to plan for the future. Hi TLP, Yes what was initial set up of ute and van, also what was your initial outlay to start travelling full time. I will be travelling without kids as wating till she has finished school so It will probably be cheaper for me to set up as will be towing a hybrid and setting up dual cab with tray and canopy so I can do a bit of offroad travel with out van. Thanks for your response.

@@craig3113 inital outlay before we set off was probably about $180k, but we sold other assets (our old vehicle, camper trailer, camping gear, etc) that offset this cost significantly.

Hey Simon & Liz. I believe I have jumped through the first couple of hoops to enter the $100 voucher giveaway competition. Loved the video and all the aspects to consider when my family and I eventually head off on our Oz travels. I am absolutely dying to see what mod you guys have done to your new van in relation to maximising your water saving/storage capability ... I just hope that whatever it is, it's not out of reach/impossible to incorporate in my own van. That said, having been a subscriber of your channel for a while now, I can't see you guys showcasing a caravan mod or initiative that is too far out of reach of the 'common man' (or woman). Thus far, I have installed a Topargee water flow meter (Bluetooth model) which definitely helps to monitor water usage and purchased a Redwater HWS diverter (some water savings) and a portable water flow meter (measure water input into onboard tanks) but of course, these don't do much to significantly increase or improve water capacity or storage. The other initiative I plan to follow through with is purchase of a water bladder stored in the rear seat footwell (GVM/GCM limitations permitting) to more so, ferry water back to the caravan for top-ups rather than as permanent water storage. The last initiative is a fully portable water pump & filtration system which will allow me to siphon and filter water from a flowing creek or river. Apart from that (and possibly a reverse osmosis system), you guys have got me beat as to what exactly you've incorporated in your new van so I eagerly await that upcoming episode 👍

We are having all the off-grid stuff put in our new build, so on the odd occasion that we stay in a caravan park, we will go on unpowered sites, where available. What's the situation generally with accessing water when you're on an unpowered site? Are there water hook ups? Are you allowed to fill your tanks from somewhere? Do you have to sneak out with 20L canisters when nobody's looking? ;-) (Have signed up for all the things... would love to win the voucher!)
@TheLifestylePioneers
@TheLifestylePioneers Жыл бұрын
Thanks Carla. It varies with unpowered sites when it comes to water. Generally if you ask they will have somewhere you can fill up. It is frustrating through that often unpowered sites don't have provision for water or grey water disposal.

I travel mostly rural and remote in my motorhome, where I generate income is as a Tradie. I am a Sparky and where there is a big shortage of Spakies is mostly in remote areas therefore it is very easy to find work In fact I get offered more work than what I really wanted when I decided to travel. Next motorhome rather than having sign writing I will have magnetic signs that I can remove when I don't want work...lol However I currently am restricted to WA/SA/NT due to licencing requirements in states....bring on the national licencing.
