Ah Liz and Simon it seems we are of kindred spirits. We have a basic idea we want to do and see and then use Wiki for campsites, water and to read reviews. My girlfriend has a little trouble coping with us and the way we don't plan too much😂 "Coddiewomple" to travel in a purposeful manner towards a vague destination. That's us😂 We even use KZfaq to guide us so when we stayed at The Digging in Mt Kosciuszko NP we definitely knew not to book site 12. Wow, that was a squeeze and definitely no solar. We also have a Zone 20'6 Base. Another awesome vid

Another great video - thanks Simon and Liz. You are SO right about keeping things flexible - to me, that's the whole point of a holiday. We have friends who had every single stop of a half lap planned out before they set off, with every campsite booking made months ahead. They had a great time - for them - but to us, that's more like doing a planned, guided tour, but without the guides. We'd much rather free-wheel it - our planning tends to be along the lines of "Which way should we turn now - left or right?" then just see what we find. Not everybody is comfortable doing that, but for us, it has resulted in discovering many, many gorgeous places, little adventures, and memories for life, that we otherwise would never have found.

You're spot on, Pete. And at the end of the day you've gotta do the type of travel that suits you, but I'd love to encourage more people to let go of the strict plans and just go with the flow. You can uncover some incredible places, people and experiences when you do.

Hi folks well another good start to Sunday. Very good advice in this one. You're so right about how the planning differs depending on time and where you are going. My choices usually rely on whether Im just car camping or setting up the tent. One thing I do find disappointing is that a lot of free sites say no tents yet Im as self sufficient with my set up as a lot of camp trailers or vans, so it would be nice to see that taken into account more at some sites. Obviously not the short stay ones along highways. The only thing I can think of with that is people are worried about the tents causing damage to grassed areas especially if its hot. I agree with your map choice, also a big paper map and Hema fan. My road atlas one is literally just hanging together lol looking forward to seeing the rest of your Tassie trip. Cheers Cheryl 🙂

Some other channels are now adding in silly sketches which ain’t funny or say they are at a secret location etc. If they don’t want to tell their viewers just don’t mention it’s secret and film it. Hi, I love this video. Some real good tips. We just retuned from a 2 month trip. I feel we should have stopped for longer as it was tiring doing too many one night stops. We have a small hybrid and set up and pack up does take a lot out of you when you do it every day. We used wiki camps and Hema maps all the time. Next trip will definitely do longer stays at most camp sites

Love hearing that you often wing it for finding sites - leaving it until the morning of! For peak times where a lot of places will be full, do you try to find less popular places to explore/stay?
@TheLifestylePioneers

We always manage to find somewhere. Peak times we do have to plan a little better. That usually involves camping on private propertyt or booking in somewhere less popular.

Another great episode, love the use of a drone as a beacon. We are waiting for delivery of our van (July) and your videos have been a great reference for newbie’s like us. I was surprised the 2 to 3 hours travel averages, I’m still stuck in the mindset of pick the destination and work out stops along the way. Been planning on wiki camps and breaking it up into 5 hour driving days. Any chance you can do a rating on the passes over the great dividing range? Hate to struggle up a ridiculous slope when there are better options. Even a list of the ones to avoid Thanks, Peter + Karen
@TheLifestylePioneers
@TheLifestylePioneers Жыл бұрын
Great to hear, Peter. There's a lot to see in 5 hours of travel in many parts of the country. Not saying we'd never do a long day and tackle 5hrs but it's pretty rare. We haven't done a lot of the mountain passes. Mainly in southern NSW and none of them are too difficult. The steepest we've done was on the Buckett's way heading down.

Hi guys valuable episode I also wonder if you factor in weather We did north coast Qld in autumn which worked well until the Vic exodus started then it was hard to find a camp We are planning next to travel to Adelaide from central coast nsw and are thinking of doing this early winter🎉 Also floods have played havocs with some of our plans and forced serious changes to our plans Appreciate all advice And will try your Hema site

The weather is always going to be a factor. We wouldn't say we plan around it for our longer term travel, more for the seasons. We often have to adjust plans due to weather though, that's just part of travel I think.

Thanks Antonio. We rarely stay in caravan parks and almost always camp in free camps, national parks or other off grid locations. Our length of stay varies but anything up to two weeks at a time is pretty common.

Hey guys, love your channel! I'm curious if you have plans to ever stop travelling, or is this something you will be doing for years to come? We want to do what you do and rather than get in debt, we are thinking we will sell our house and buy what we need. It's scary step though and everyone is saying we shouldn't. I guess I worry after a year or 2 if we decide we are done, what the next steps would be. So was wondering if this is something that's crossed your mind? Thanks guys.

That's great to hear. As I'm sure you can appreciate, there's a lot to the decision and not something we can cover off completely here. Everyone's risk tolerance is different but we reached a point where we felt the sacrifices needed were worth the rewards offered by a change of lifestyle. Safe to say, we haven't looked back. That's not to say it's for everyone, but it definitely suits our family. We never know what the future holds, but we have no plans to stop travelling.
