Why is it depressing? Politicians literally pass laws that decide the lifeline of the area lol, the least they can get is a free burger when walking down the lot lmao. Though it would be better if it was only politicians who achieved the things they claimed they would achieve for the area.

@@KarmaCadet "Hilarious unfortunate for every creature on the planet" Every creature is greedy lol. You are greedy. In fact, *NO ONE* in this world is attracted to *ANY* career for any other reason than greed lmao, if you think it's wrong then start offering your services to any two-bit dumbass walking down the street for free, until you find yourself starving and on the brink of death. Sooner or later, you will either die or embrace your greed and ask for payment. Greed is probably the most fundamental motivation for all life, because organisms require the consumption of resources to survive; thus their most basic prerogative is to accumulate these resources. The only people that complain of "Greed" are the organisms which suck at securing their own resources for survival; and thus must cast judgements such as "morality", "ethics", etc. in order to guilt trip the rest of the world into giving them resources for free, out of pity.

@@UnknownGamer40464 Yes it is a burden; being capable of effectively choosing laws and policies which lead to prosperity for the land mass, the decisively implementing those laws in a smooth manner is very much a hard thing to do lmao; why do you think most nations are impoverished and hardly stable, down to a regional level? Being a leader isn't a walk in the park, no matter how much the average joe tells themselves it is so they can sleep at night thinking they're better than their superiors. Most politicians nowadays deserve a kick in the nuts because democracy has allowed losers like you to elect the leaders; no wonder they're of such low quality lol. Democracy is a failed experiment.

it's the peer pressure of being in the presence of a powerful authority figure that makes them give away products for free. seeing those massive cameras, if a business owner refused, they feared having their business named and shamed for having terrible customer service. no small business can refuse if a whole camera crew turns up at their doorstep and asks for free products.

Whether they are or not, put on a good face and a smile, "legit" just means it'll be aired and shown somewhere. If they're being predatory, give them nothing to burn you on. If they're, like this, showing the best side of every small biz as an aside to mocking something unrelated, give them 10 minutes, $10-20 of lunch, and a smile. That's ~$50 investment in the equivalent of a few grand in advertising.

I worked for several politicians for nearly a decade, and this was never my experience. Yes, you do sometimes receive gifts and if you were to go into a restaurant or whatever you might get a free treat, but most politicians want to show themselves *supporting* small business, not taking from them. When we were out in the community like this, we never had expectations of receiving anything - rather, the point was always to buy something. This was fairly consistent among the 3 politicians I worked for.

I think there's a number of factors at play... Exposure is good, especially if it's going to be on mainstream television. You also want that exposure to be positive. Then there's also the fact that this might be the person to represent you in the future so you want them somewhat happy... Then also there's just a lot of peer pressure and shit, all these people around, cameras, treating this one guy as important, not wanting to create a fuss/awkward situation, etc. You get the gist. I mean if one is confident and brazen enough, they can get away with a lot, without any cameras or anything... people often don't really feel comfortable enough to stand up to that sort of shit, especially if potential danger is an element, which can become rather abusive and sad, but anyway. Oh, and yea all of this video is probably just part of the script, but either way.

@@Siberius- unlike the OP responding to your comment, I actually appreciate the long form response. Yes I think exposure and pressure are the largest key factors. A man that walks into your store with all these cameras and people sounding him. You'd want to make a good impression. There's also the manipulation of hope. People are always looking towards or hoping someone can assist in solving their problems. That someone has to be a politician more often than not because they themselves (sadly) can't change policy. It's a sad and manipulative game that politicians play with these meet and greets. Probably some were scripted, but given their record I'm sure others were not. Most probably were not.

Ohhh good addition with hope there! yea maybe if they show kindness, these important looking politician people will help them, even for selfish reasons... or at least some courtesy-cash off camera or something for their troubles, I dunno. Always pays to tell these people about your hardships, because they might do something about it. Reminds me of a guy who really helped a youtuber in a video, and he mentioned how he needs foot surgery, and I was like yea he gonna get that cash for sure, and at the end of the video he did get that cash. There was this great show that tested psychological perceptions around authority. It was awesome, it might be on youtube. One of the tests was to see if people would give up their seat at a restaurant if you had a uniform on or not. Any uniform, sometimes just coveralls and a hard hat. And they made sure the people had already started their meal. Every time someone in a uniform, even just a high vis vest, asked people to move, they did. Without the uniform, almost no one moved. They did another test with signage at a museum. They put up a sign that said please follow the line on the ground and then had an extremely convoluted line traced out that led away from most exhibits. The first few tests, people started following it but then did their own thing. So the researchers made the sign look more and more official, eventually having a very official looking government seal on it and more commanding language. Once it got to that level, almost no adult deviated from the path. There's this heartbreaking, and scarily poignant part where a little girl excitedly starts running towards some exhibits but her parents yank her back onto this path that ultimately leads no where. Like damn, nail on the head, yeah?
