Well thought out money grab because as far as i know no way is the MLS going to change its structure or help bring in a promotional league what this created was a bond between league and teams to never bring in promotion giving teams the go ahead to have half ass teams with no real aim to win championships just to exist to make money by selling a half ass product to people who really don't have a soccer fan tradition.

The best thing for all this is if Messi and Miami can make the playoffs. To do so, they will have to win almost every game he plays, but the club is building a very good squad to help him. If Miami makes the playoffs this season, this deal will instantly supercharge the league into a monster because league pass subscriptions will explode!! If they get one more superstar or a few young stars from South America, they could win 8 of their last 10 games. That should be enough.

Excellent post. Well cut; well presented. I never thought this rumor (months ago) would ever happen - but it seems Leo has done all right in his decision. The concept that Apple will gain more subscriptions, Adidas will increase sales, and the MLS will gain revenue is rudimentary. The REAL deal is the personal contract - as Leo has a stake in EVERY one of those deals, plus the Inter-Miami incentives. Unbelievable. Unheard of. But the GOAT is proving himself beyond expectations. Thank god he didn't fall into the Saudi clutches.

What a rip off glad i saw Messi when he was at Barça when they used to do their US tour and the tickets were affordable not only that season pass tickets were way cheaper back when becks and other great players. were in the MLS all this is just a money grab not good fir anyone but the MLS higher ups. 😂 this wont do nothing for the growth once Messi leaves MLS team will not win any continental championship like the Suda Americana cup or copa libertadores if they are in invited hell if they win a conca champions it will be the biggest thing ever for the league 😂

Well Messi left a deal of abot 3 Billion Dollars plus other benefits for 65 million Dollars but he does what his wife wants also , that its why we love Messi . In America there are almost 30 Countries and at least 26 love Messi and football

don't know where you get your numbers, but it was 320 million per year and he wouldn't have played ten years, so probably more like 1 billion (still huge). actually this deal might be the more profitable one in the long run. values of franchises have been rising way extremely and will rise even more after he signed. he will also have huge sponsoring opportunities which he otherwise wouldn't have. plus adidas and apple money. and i'm not even counting a potential divorce that might have happened if he forced his wife to go to saudi arabia😁

@NR-fd9wv you forgot he has to pay taxes here in the US. With taxes, he probably net income about 500 - 600 millions which is still huge. The IRS would not let him walk away with that huge cash without them pick pocket Messi.

@@olympic-ass-eater yes, but i think the opportunities for longterm income are way higher is the US. first of all the sponsoring opportunities for a new market, which is the biggest market for consumer goods, and some will last even longer than his career. then there is a stake in the franchise which will most likely multiply within a few years.

one of the problem is, you need an apple device to subscribe to apple TV, but worldwide, people use more android phone than apple. So, i think, apple need to release apple tv on android, if they want to increase the subscription number worldwide to touch a bigger market.

The league only earns $250 million per year for the next eight years, a far cry from the numbers you are talking about, yes. But part of that money goes to the production of their games, which is around $40 million. They've only grown to a little below two million worldwide of which around 30% of the subscriptions are free. Apple are using them as a guinea pig to be able to acquire other properties in the future such as NFL or even F1.

This is repeated history here in the US. It should be called the Pele effect . Back in the 70s Pele joined the New York cosmos (de funk team) creating soccer madness but as time would show ones Pele was gone the league crashed and the money grab was completed.. US sports fans don't really venture out they are very loyal to American Sports. So expect for the MLS if it survives after Messi to go back to its quite self. Like i said its a money grab and nothing else

I think the fact that society has changed so much since the 70s, with an eagerness (often forced) to embrace multiculturalism can result in a more durable boost. Time will tell - Messi has 2 years left at most.

@@ThePolypam na a lot of the immigrant fans follow either European or their native home leagues . You can bring older retire players but truth is the league needs to improve starting by bringing in a championship promotion league so teams will have no choice but to find ways to improve also the national team needs to be consistent and that can't happen unless the local youth are taken in to consideration. I don't know about you but i rather focus on home grown players then going out piping out my country to bring outsiders who don't really have any connection to the US,to compete for us. Mexican league froze their promotion rule and look how their consistency dropped to the point that next year they will bring the rule back .They loosen their foreign player rules from having 3 to 5 and now to pretty much 10 foreign players per team and its showering how it affects the national team because teams would rather go spend on foreign then put in the time to grow local talent. Why would i want to support a team who's soul existence to just sell players and not compete for a championship?

@@westcoastmex629 The top (European) leagues have a very large number of foreign players. I don't think that is a factor that is slowing down growth. Completely agree re:need for a proper system with relegation. It could also be that the very nature of the matches is not to the liking of the average American. A 0-0 draw is viewed as boring when it could well be a riveting game. Hard to tell, really! I hope it catches on.

Look at Brazil and Argentina export way more then import they give their country men first.i don't know what you mean by growth do you mean financially or quality because quality no its not like young talented players are gonna flock to a league that has zero prestige remember back in the 20th century the foreign restrictions were tight which meant only the best of the best got picked up now any player who is hyped up by the media and is calked the next Messi gets singed only to flop. Now if you mean financial growth well the US propaganda machine is great when it comes to that
