In Berlin we aren't in the 90s or especially laid back, we just don't care how other people look and don't judge based on their clothing or style so everyone wears compfy stuff but you also see very "fashionable" folks xD

Berlin is basically too lazy for anything :D you are right about they dont care. They dont care anywhere in Germany :D Berlin and Munich are equal to that nowadays :D Berlin is not hip anymore. Berlin doesnt evolve its not a colored city. Not an interesting place. Berlin is less interesting than Bielefeld. Berlin also has this huuuge problem about feeling too important. Berlin is too hip for hipsters :D Its to clichee nowadays :D You dont want that if you wanne be free

That’s good to know. I would not like pajamas out. I like to dress 👗up doesn’t have to be high heels 👠 yet I think putting effort how you look and flatter you/the figure of the body is important. I also like vintage 1940 1950s styles. I would not wear sweatpants out just seams sad!

I LOVE the clothing style in Berlin. I live in Hamburg, where you only really see cool styles when you go to the more alternative parts of town: everywhere else it's mostly the standard style you see in H&M or Zara. So everytime I'm in Berlin I just look at people and what they're wearing cuz it's so refreshing to see different and cool styles

@@krissynyc hmm well the problem is that I've never really found amazing thrift stores in the city, but you definetly should check in the Schanze, the more alternative part of the city :) also I'm not sure when but sometimes there are flee markets where people sell 2nd hand clothing(you can also find those in the schanze). I have found a lot of cool articles there. ;) I hope you have fun in Hamburg!

Im from Germany and I’d describe going to the mall like being in a war ! There are so many people that you have to be afraid there won’t be any clothes left. That’s the reason why you shouldn’t go to the mall on saturdays 😂 was a bit of exaggeration I hope that’s visible haha

Hey gril! I really liked this video. I haven´t heard anybody talk about this as of yet... How interesting that we have very similar experiences!! I have been living in Germany for about three years now and my styles have shifted drastically aswell. I don´t dress up as much and I def dont wear as much make up anymore (which is a total No-No in Colombia, where I am from. At least when you are going clubbing you need to dress up and look good or else you won´t get in). I find I even care less about my appearance. I call it "The Germany Effect" haha

Sachell Dingani hi Sachell! Could talk about your experience? I have seen from me and my Latina friends living in Germany that we get to be more "relaxed" when it come to going out... and we don't feel pressure to wear heels or skirts or anything like that. so in my case I often choose the most comfortable option. Not that you can't go out wearing that type of thing.. it's just that more styles are accepted and it is not the norm to dress really sexy or really formal (like in Colombia for example) you can just do what you want :P and nobody cares!! it's quite freeing if I do say so myself...

@@hstyleslover1D4ever hey Ashley well my experience here has been so horrible and l have suffered the german effect.l do not dress that fancy anymore for example when you are invited for a party you expect to look nice wear heels and some dress.l have overdressed that l end up feeling out of place .So l have become very typical german jeans and hoodies or pullovers with sneakers then l am ready to go.l only dress that nice for the club and that is .l once wore my 6inche shoes and l was like the center of attention and they were all looking at me 😂😂.Well l have not stopped shopping .l buy and stock and wear my staff at special occassions.Here you would feel out of place in sneakers at a club.They do dress up.

Stuttgart is better than Berlin, by far. Berlin can't even finance itself, everyone is on welfare. In fact, Baden-Württemberg and Bayern are still *paying* Berlin, even after almost 30 years since the wall (Länderfinanzauslgeich) I wish the Americans would have dropped the atomic bombs on Berlin, not Japan.

If really enjoy nice and unique fashion go to Bikini Mall close to Zoo. There u can find a lot of young designers. My favorite store there is LNFA I getting most of my cloth there. I like the thing of wearing things that not everyone have.

@Diana I used to live in Berlin over 30 years ago and have been back a few times for a day or so to pass through. Now I see a loud, dirty City. do you have any recommendations about areas to stay away from when I come back to visit for a week later this year. I have read of certain areas such as Moabit and Kottbusser Tor. but when I lived in Berlin it was so safe. Thank you.

Iam agree with you. Berlin had become a very true shithole. I studied there in the End 80s and I never could live there again. What a dirty, loud, dangerous place to be! It scares to walk around at night, police had lost control over there long ago... Shithole Berlin!

You are right and in America Nord and South we care so much about those things you talked, the way you look, thing clothes, makeup... stuff that makes our lives more complex without any real deep reason of doing that, I lived in Spain 11 years and from Colombia to Spain it was shocking as well, I felt much more free to be who I wanted to be, and not to follow trends and fashion was also an option and it was ok, but coming to Berlin is a whole new level, and I love it, is true that I also see sometimes people wearing such a cool weird clothes, so unique and comfy in many ways, and they look so confident with themselves, is amazing, I still wear some makeup as well, way less than in Colombia and way less than in Barcelona and it's ok, I never used heels as they are totally uncomfortable and I love vegan boots so I'm so glad people here is totally into comfort shoes, comfort clothes and just be themselves and find they way to be unique just if they want to, if not, is also ok to use and be an average person with normal clothes, no makeup, etc, all is really accepted, from the super goth-punk style to wearing your grandpa old jacket, no one will care.

Was haben manche immer mit Berlin! Es sei arm, dreckig, schmutzig., ja, an manchen stellen ist es sogar extra ranzig, aber für mich ist Berlin die geilste stadt Deutschlands uns sooo soo vielfältig, es gibt auch Shopping addicted, super chice Leute am Ku’damm, teures essen, schöne Klamotten, generell sind die Leute relativ gechillt, egal ob Alternative oder Besserverdiener, die haben irgendwie Style, achten auf ihr Äußeres, geben nicht so viel auf andere, und glotzen vor allem nicht doof, hier kann man einfach sein, wie man will, Berlin❤️

In Hamburg ist es das gleiche. Teilweise ist die Stadt so groß, das ich eigentlich sagen muss das ich die Stadt noch nicht von allen ihren Seiten gesehen habe. In Berlin war ich jetzt noch nicht so häufig, nur ein paar mal, also kann ich die Stadt nicht wirklich Bewerten.

Very often I get mistaken for being a German, and told that I look like all the girls 'back home'. I am not blonde or blue eyed and live in a totally different part of the world. I am puzzled.

In my opinion the Berliner dress like 12 year-olds. Berlin is also not to compare with the rest of Germany. The quality of living in the south for example is much higher, the people have a way higher income and the fashion sense is compareable with that of Italy. Good mixture of casual and classy wardrobe.

Of course, there are always some weirdoes who are annoyed by your voice and the echo in the room, who make fun of your shiny skin or who complain that you are too yourself at the camera. But don't let yourself be bullied.

Hey there, Berlin is very free spirited and open minded but it does not represent the major citys in Germany at all since it is kinda unique due to the history as well as having lots of universities, being the capital of Germany and also attracting lots of artsy people. Those factors shape Berlin to what it is. In terms of fashion, for women I personally prefer the style you would wear in Toronto. It's way more attractive in my eyes than the stuff young women wear here in Berlin. Makeup wise I'd say naturally is best. What's a bit suprising for me is, that you really wear something like a shirt only three times and than get rid of it? Or was that just exaggeration?

In my country, I used to give time to go out shopping and when I came to Germany I still give almost the same time to go out shopping. I divided the shopping between my country and Germany because I can find more varieties in my country which I never expected. Even Germans notice the clothes that I wear from my country but not the one I buy from here which means they have seen it before which means fewer varieties when it comes to clothes in Germany.

Berlin is famous for a lot of people moving there trying to be edgy. Germans perceive the Berlin stereotype as colorful hair, way too short bangs, oldschool ski jackets, thrifted clothes and extraordinary outfits. So everyone with an boho, punk, gothic, hipster or whatever style feels welcome in Berlin, while smaller german cities are really conservative.

Dieses Argument hat 2 Seiten. Für die Familien in dèn armen Länder ist dieser Lohn oft das alleinige Einkommen. Wènn man dort Kinderarbeit verbieten würden verhungert die Familie. Es ist eine andere Kultur wo Kinderarbeit leider üblich ist. Man dort keine Löhne zahlen, welche dort unüblich hoch wären.

@@heidipae2576 Natürlich kann man das so sehen! Aber ich bin der Meinung, maximal einmal im Monat die nötigsten Anziehsachen zu kaufen, reicht völlig! Aber leider verführen vorallem die ganzen Läden mit den Dumpingpreisen zum übermäßigen Konsum!

@@kessas.489 Da gebe ich dir Recht. Leider leben wir in einer Konsum und Wegwerfgesellschaft. Und wir werden die Menschen nicht überzeugen, weniger gierig zu sein. In der DDR haben wir ohne Grund nichts weggeworfen. Unsere damaligen Konsumgüter wurden aufgrund des Mangels für die "Ewigkeit" gefertigt. Als Beispiel stehen zum Beispiel die PRIVILEG Artikel der westdeutschen Versändhäuser aus der DDR, wie zum Beispiel Küchengeräte usw. Es wurde noch repariert und bei Defekt nicht einfach weggeworfen. Es ist unglaublich, was die Leute wegwerfen. So werdèn Resourcen verschwendet. Und die Autoindustrie usw. entwickelt sich immer perverser in der Verschwendung von teuren Rohstoffen. Es ist zwar schön, dass wir èin gutes Leben haben, wenn es nicht die furchtbare Armut in der 3. Welt hätten.

@@heidipae2576 Auch im Westen hat man bis in die 1990er Jahre hinein viele Elektro-Artikel reparieren lassen, doch mit dem konstanten Wettbewerb immer preiswerter zu produzieren und zu verkaufen, erscheint es oft nicht mehr rentabel eine Reparatur, die eventuell die Hälfte von einem neuen Produkt kostet, durchführen zu lassen. Hinzu kommt, dass man gegebenenfalls nicht auf Radio, Fernseher usw. für mehr als eine Woche verzichten möchte. Bei manchen Artikeln besteht auch die Gefahr, dass man das Ersatzteil nicht mehr bekommt, weil Firmen fusionieren und die Artikel aus dem Programm genommen wurden(ja, deshalb mussten wir unseren ersten Geschirrspüler erneuern, anstatt einen neuen Dichtungsring einzusetzen;) ) Auf der anderen Seite gibt es auch bei uns viele Menschen, deren Einkommen gerade eben ausreicht sich ab und an einmal ein neues Stück aus einer Billigproduktion zu leisten für diese Teile kann man dann auch keine Ersatzteile für eine Reparatur erhalten. Zum Glück gibt es aber auch Internet-Plattformen bei denen man für kleines Geld oder als Selbstabholer kostenlos funktionierende Gegenstände aus Haushaltsauflösungen oder Dinge, die andere nicht mehr mögen/anderen nicht mehr passen erhalten kann.

@@manub.3847 Dichtungsringe kann man heute selbst nachbauen. Entweder gibt es Universal kits oder Gummiplatten aus denen man sich die Dichtung heraus schneidet. Viele kleine Ersatzteile lassen sich auch schon mit 3D Druck nachbauen.

Hello Diana Wonderful video, your last part should be played in every school, there are so many natural beauties in it like you are, tell them please, that they don't need that much make up and they are pretty, too. Most important for everyone is to feel good sometimes less is more and the same is about the clothes. If you have a good feeling, don't care about what maybe other people could think of you, more important is confidence. Have a nice Sunday, the weather looks okay for some activities.

Jobs can dictate whether you're allowed to wear jewelry at work (or what kind of jewely as long as there is a legitimate reason for it). For example if you're working as a nurse in a hospital you won't be allowed to wear any jewelry in most cases because of hygiene and safety. Or if you work as a bank teller you're expected to wear tasteful jewelry and not the biggest and flashiest jewelry you can find. But in your free time you can wear whatever you want.

Berlin is a very rough place and not to compare with any other city in germany. (well, maybe Cologne or Duisburg are just as rough!) Their income rate is pretty low there and oh my goodness, you can really see that everywhere, including on the people and what they wear! Here in Bavaria people obviously have a much higher income and they are very crazy about fashion and shopping for clothes! Sometimes I feel that's all people do here in their spare time, shopping, shopping, shopping! And another thing that's totally different here in Munich, you can not, never ever, enter any club wearing sneakers! They look at you from up to down and if you don't dress accordingly you will be bounced!

No, shopping is all that *women* do, not "people". I am a German male and I haven't been shopping not even a single time in 2019. It's not because of my income, I'm 100% richer than you, promise. Women are obsessed with looks, men don't give a sh!%. Munich is like America, materialistic, shallow, empty. Not really a surprise. Dass man in einer überbewerteten linken Hipsterstadt wie München, nichts macht, außer shoppen, überrascht mich nicht. Ihr müsst ja depressiv sein bei den Mietpreisen. Wenn ich in einer 20m² Shoebox wohnen müsste für 1500€ dann würde ich auch dauernd rausgehen.

Munich = "Mehr Schein, als sein", und außer ein paar Alten mit Dackel leben da eh nur Zugereiste, und BTW, den Türsteher-Schischi-BussiBussi-BS machen auch nur die Münchner. Im Kopf sind die immer noch tiefste Provinz.

I can't say that. I live in Bavaria for years now, I live in rural area but work in a "city" and most women I know are not overly into shopping. Most are mindfull, wear the same stuff all the time. Like yes I guess that they spend more on clothes and are more into designer clothes and you see more brands and designer clothes down here than people wear in the north, but it's still more slow fashion. I can only think of very few women, who would obsessively shop for clothes in their free time, and they are mostly seen as a bit strange. Also Munich certainly does not represent Bavaria, Munich is just as special as Berlin. It certainly won't happen to you in other Bavarian cities, that you can't go into a club wearing sneakers. Also non-Munich Bavarians, in my experience are certainly far less arrogant.

@@agn855 Ach herrlich wie sich typisch osten vs süden bzw. Berlin VS München hier in den Kommenateren so richtig dumm oberflächlich angehen. Man findet in Berlin auch schicke Gegenden und man kann den Berliner Style auch qualitativ umsetzten und München ist zwar schicker aber man muss ja nicht gerade in die paar Iditoten-Proz-Schubben gehen. Der normale Müncher (der ebenso wie der Ur-Berliner immer weiter verdrängt werden) sind alles andere als bussi-bussi und die alternative Szene in München ist zwar klein aber fein. Diese bescheuerte unrelfektierte Regional-Patriotismus nervt und da ist dieses pseudo open-minded kein Deut besser als die Stammtischrunde vom Land.

The problem with Berlin style is that it’s just valid for Berlin. The rest of Germany kind of has a love hate relationship with Berlin. On the one hand it’s a pretty city in some areas and has an interesting history, on the other hand it’s flooded with hipsters, people from the left autonomous scene and richer people trying to get tenants out of houses they bought. So it doesn’t really represent Germany, it’s like an own world. And Germans (even younger people) are really divided when it comes to loving or hating Berlin. Go out and see other cities or even better the so called middle centers, so cities from 100.000-500.000 people, not necessarily above. That is where the real Germany happens, not in Berlin.

Damn that chick is fine, her boyfriend is a lucky dude. I like the way living in Berlin has changed her and I hope Berlin is at the forefront of how the nineties revival will impact clothing trends. I loved the loose fitting clothing aesthetic of the nineties for its comfort and I look forward to its return I like seeing chicks wearing tight fitting clothing but I hate wearing tight jeans/stretch jeans. Berlin sounds like a really cool arts oriented kinda place from what I'd heard before and the things I'm hearing in this video make it sound even cooler.

I loved your Toronto style, it’s more like what the style is like in the US. Why do you feel the need to wear what Germans wear? It sounds like Germans are stuck in the 80’s and 90’s grungy old stuff. Is it because Germans stare and judge if you wear something different? It sounds like Germans don’t really care about being “put together”, wearing worn clothes, shoes and not wearing makeup. 🤯

I'd say because it's way more comfortable, less time consuming and because most Germans don't give a ... what others wear, so you basically suffer in heels, thight clothes and ton of make up for no reason, cuz nobody appreciates the effort. So she wisely saves time, money and the suffering and has more fun. Sounds wise to me.
