+David Sebastian Not discreditng NDT, love and respect the dude, but that was practically what Sagan has iterated countless of times before. And Sagan is one of his "mentors", to use that term lightly . The anecdote about him being invited by Sagan for dinner when he was just 17 is awesome. probably a big influence and turning point that solidified the path he took towards astrophysics. Haha. Cheers! Today's NDT's birthday!

Everything he says about Newton is wrong. Halley asked his famous question on planetary orbits in 1684 when Newton was in his 40s. Newton didn't say he didn't know. He had already solved the problem Halley presented to him 7 years earlier. It didn't take Newton two months. Newton started thinking about gravity and planetary orbits in 1665 and he made his break through in the years 1676-77. It took him 12 years. Shame on TIme Magazine for failing to fact check this confused source of misinformation.

@@Synthwave89 Lapham's Quarterly gives an account in Newton's own words. The page is titled Anni Mirabilis. "At length, in the winter between the years 1676 and 1677, I found the proposition that by a centrifugal force reciprocally as the square of the distance a planet must revolve in an ellipsis about the center of the force placed in the lower umbilicus of the ellipsis, and with a radius drawn to that center, describe areas proportional to the times. He was saying that great scientists, like Isaac Newton, would avoid asking those kinds of questions, because there are vastly more important questions to ask in terms of science.

Neil deGrasse Tyson is a preacher of the sole religion I truly believe in. He, among many others, is an icon and an idol. One that me and never enough others strive to be like. There are lesser known preachers, dead preachers, lesser able preachers, silent preachers and what have you - but they are the ones to give me hope. Whenever I´m watching a science vid, let it be for a college class or own enjoyment at home, I always feel like a cat on the prowl, jumping at, playing with, chasing and incorporating ideas, 'wisdom' and knowledge. I´m happy I grew up to be like that.

A basic tenet in science is to question everything. Test a hypothesis. Challenge claims to see if they are supported by evidence. Great advice. And it blows right by 99.9% of Tyson's following that Tyson's Newton routine is addled bull shit. Halley asked the famous question on orbits when Newton was in his early 40s. All this stuff happening over a period of two months before Newton turned 26 is bull shit from Tyson's bong. Please don't pat yourself on the back for your critical thinking skills. It's like adulterous Republicans singing their praises for family values.

If you are on the fence about the whole atoms from stars thing its true, though Carl Sagan breaks it down better and this is exactly where Neil is drawing his influence from. Carl Sagan said it like this "We are all made of star stuff" and its true, if can't create or destroy energy then that means all of our current and future energy was created at the big bang and simply get reused or transferred and stored in a different form of energy. Also Newton was the best scientist, if it wasn't for him creating Calculus physics would not have been able to advance until someone did.
@MartinStaykov
@MartinStaykov 10 жыл бұрын
Actually Leibniz invented calculus at the same time Newton did, so if Newton hadn't invented it I don't think anything would have changed much. And btw, you can create energy all you want, as long as you create negative energy as well to compensate for it. ;)

Einstein's discoveries were more advanced than Newton's discoveries, but the accomplishments of Newton were more impressive. Newton's contribution to mathematics and physics was simply more impressive to have come from one person than the work of Einstein. Einstein's contribution was also incredibly impressive (as well as revolutionary), and nobody can argue that what happened in that guys head was amazing. But it just wasn't as amazing as what came out of Newton's head. The discoveries Newton made are also more important and more applicable to engineering than the discoveries Einstein made.

¿Persona? Excuse me,english is not my main language so maybe thats what i dont get what you mean. If you mean something in the lines of "our soul" im sorry to tell you there is no such thing,our "minds" arent but electric signals circuling our nervous systems.and it will just dissapear with our bodys,there is no thing spiritual about life. Again,sorry for butchering english.

: persona: the way you behave, talk, etc., with other people that causes them to see you as a particular kind of person : the image or personality that a person presents to other people I'm saying this "image" is not true in the sense that matter exists. If one asks the question, "where is the observer located?" What would be the answer? No one has been able to locate this entity. But science requires an observer who measures the observed. We assume that the observer is some kind of measure that is making the measurement. Sorry, this is not easy the explain. I know that this paradox is understood in the scientific community but it is never revealed by any of the public figure scientists. There is nothing spiritual or supernatural in this.

how is a guy like newton possible, i mean realistically speaking it makes no sense, what was the combination of genetic material to produce this brain? and why it hasnt occured again? wtf is going on
@aquiro
@aquiro 10 жыл бұрын
Maybe it has occurred, but that brain was killed in one of the many wars humanity has created. Or maybe that Brain died of starvation. Maybe it couldnt emerge and create because of poverty.

Have you found evidence to disprove the existence of invisible, untouchable, undetectable unicorns? No? Well if you haven't why don't you believe in their existence? "That which can be asserted without evidence, can be dismissed without evidence. " Look for evidence in every aspect of what you believe. If none exists, do not believe in it. You'll live a more logical life.

My youngest had a disability. He went thru school in special ed. I will always remember one day when he was in the garage trying to fix our electric riding lawn mower. He had it jacked up and was underneath it ad I heard him cursing out in the garage. He was a bit frustrated. I came out to see what he was doing and got underneath the lawnmower with him and we figured out what the problem was together. I told him to just watch, and see how things work together and he can figure things out. Next
