Wow thanks everyone for all the amazingly helpful comments! So the main thing I've learned is that the sprayer I should be using is the gravity fed (HVLP) top loading gadget - which was actually supplied with the compressor as well as this (what turns out to be a) "paraffin gun". So armed with this knowledge I shall try again on the mighty GS when I get the chance.....stay tuned to see how I get on and whether the compressor is going to E-Bay!! [addendum: ..and yes, I know about warming up the ACF50!!!!!!]

Fluid tip size is also important - did mine with a 1.3 set up. Anything bigger would be even messier and would spray too much material too quickly...

It will be worth it. Just have a normal pressure but lock the needle movement off so it moves a small amount. Then you get alot of air and a small amount of acf. thats how its meant to be done.

@@viz_aviz9189 I agree. Compressors are a universal tool, paint, construction, auto care, etc... never let the compressor go, unless you want a Quincy. ;) (Upgrading always encouraged.)

I’ve done my bikes today following your vid from last year. Instead of the acf squirt bottle, I just bought a better one, warmed the acf50 and done a right proper job. Sometimes you need to stick with what you know TMF. By the look of your 1200, you don’t need to change your method. Cheers

I use an old Badger 200 bottom feed modelling airbrush at around 20psi. It's fitted with a 10ml tamiya mixing jar containing the ACF 50. The compressor I use is a small modelling model without an air tank. The airbrush has good coverage yet enables you to be quite precise so you don't make so much mess. The big plus is 20ml will do the entire bike making it incredibly economical.

Hi as a vehicle refinisher for about 35 years, I have quite a bit of experience with spraying different products which need their viscosity lowered but without using a thinner ,I would warm up the container with acf50 in and try it then , (I would place it in boiling water ) And give it time to get nice and hot, Good luck Chris.

Shultz applicator gun will do the trick. We use a spray tin like that at work but only for engine degreaser which is watery. Compressor is a cracking tool to have in the man cave, tyres, air tools, spray guns, and so much more, I’m sure you will have many uses even if it doesn’t spray acf50 all around your driveway

Hi Andy, I treated my bike today with ACF50 and thought I'd try using the parrafin gun like you as I'd had success degreasing the bike using it. I wanted to get deep into the crevices of my machine and the long nozzle is perfect for this. I found I couldn't get any spray out either initially, but I made sure I had a good amount of product in the container, warmed the pot to thin the ACF50, then the big difference was in how I adjusted the nozzle. Cracked it open about a quarter turn, locked the brass collar upto the nozzle and it was fine after that. Just thought I'd post this as it may help someone else 👍

I use the Karcher K2 pressure washer with the pressure turned down on the nozzle and some Autoglym snowfoam. Gets in all the nooks and crannies. Follow off with a blast of the pet dryer and then allow to air dry for half an hour and a little run round the street to shrug off any remaining drops of water. I use an empty and washed Ecover (other household cleaning products are available) to spray the ACF-50. It atomises really well, much better than the spray bottle that comes with the kit.

I use a very similar compressor and gun outfit and it lifts ACF 50 easily. You could try priming the gun by tipping some in the lift pipe. If this fails, the gun may be faulty.

Oh dear, I went out & bought a compressor & bits this arvo, as others have said you may have to warm the ACF50 up, or apply it with a paint gun. Be interested to see how you go, or if I get a result I'll let you know. You can get air tool accessory kits online cheaply, try Machine Mart, I think getting the stuff warm will help a fair bit, make it less viscous. The things we go through in order to look after out pride & joys 👍👍😎

The tip of the spray gun you used (i think its a degreaser /blaster gun) is adjustable to control the flow of liquid. Having said this, a gravity fed gun or paint gun are more suitable, as pointed out by others. The gun you used is only to be used with the container section at the bottom

Get a cheap gravity feed, not suction cup, mini spray gun, works fantastic. I have used that method for years, leave it in the spray gun cup for next time, no warming sprays perfectly fine at sub zero temps too. The good thing with a mini spray gun is that you can dial in the spray volume and pressure with very precise control. Plus I should add, a mini gun is way better than a larger gun, which I used to use. Because it’s more nimble to get into nooks and crannies plus the cup I a lot smaller and as you know you don’t need a lot of the stuff. Hope this helps. Dan.

I always use the jet wash, but never that close to the bike. I usually wash it at the manual car wash, and i use the tire air (the hose that you use to pump up your tires ) to blow away water from the instruments, fuel cap, mirrors and other critical parts. Any of this a bad idea for general wash? (no polish after, if so i wash it by hand at home afterwards.)

I applied acf50 to my bike for the first time a couple of weeks ago and after watching a few videos and some trial and error I have found that the best method is to put the bottle of acf50 into some hot water to make it a bit "runnier" and make spraying easier, even from the little squirt bottle. After a few minutes of using the little squirt bottle that comes with the acf50 I found that it was putting out too much product and I ended up pouring some into a plastic tray (takeaway containers work well) and use a paintbrush to apply the product. For me, there was far less overspray because I am applying it exactly where I want it with a brush and I feel like I did not waste any product unnecessarily but it did take longer and it is hard to get in around some parts of the engine this way.

Maybe you should do a back to back test and use that on one of your machines 😉 The manual spray trigger has an adjustable spray pattern which is better than the ACF aerosol. But the XCP does absolutely stink. It's meant to be more protective than ACF though, it's certainly EXTREMELY clingy and a little goes a long way

I found out that when the ACF50 drips down onto the tyre, IT DOES make the rubber expand slightly where it has come into contact with the tyre. Plus I gave up in the ACF50 in a bottle, you do not need a lot on motorcycles and a "hot" aerosol does a superb job on 5 bikes.

Use a paint spray gun one that feeds from above. My cheap compressor came with one as an accessory, if not then get one. Atomised the ACF50 perfectly and easy to control the amount.

I never wash with sponges, they can cause scratches on your paintwork. Snowfoam the bike, its more gentle and gets in the places you cant with your hands. That will get the gritty muck off first, its a prewash process. Then wash it conventionally as you did, but use a quality microfiber cloth. Another must... keep at least a meter distance between the end of your pressure washing lance and the bike, you can get water ingress into the bikes electrical systems/bearings causing expensive damage. I accidentaly removed the laquer from my car with one, ahem.. lesson learned. I apply acf 50 with an old microfiber cloth which I keep in a tin to stop it drying out. Put some in the tin with the rag, let it soak in and apply to a clean dry bike. I have found it difficult to control ACF under compressd atomisation, it goes everywhere including your brakes, exhaust, (lungs!) ect. Hope this has been helpful :)

I have been thinking to apply ACF50 to use a pump up yard sprayer. I had a carpet sprayer that was smaller that worked just like a yard sprayer but my wife wont let me use it lol

A little tip is that after applying ACF 50 to your bike is use your blower/dryer to blow it into all the nooks and crannies you can’t get to. I do this with plastic dressings when detailing my car engine too👍

MSDS says that the propellant is tetrafluroethane. That's likely what you'll need to get to thin it down further. You could probably use toluene too as it is non-corrosive and certainly better than using other quick-evaporating chemicals like Naptha or acetone.

@ missendenflyer can I use a garden sprayer to apply as it would make it a mist as well. Also when its from liquid form does it need diluted.

Not sure what you would think that with 🤔 but because it's a bit on the thick side take the container of and prime the pick up pipe by tipping it upside down and filling it up,give it a try with what's in the pipe upside down, then if it works fill again and then quickly screw it back on the container hope that helps you 😉 👍

Probably warm it first. ACF50 seems to work fine in my £30 cheapy electric paint sprayer regardless of outside temp!

ACF50 stood in hot water for a while should help. Possibly a proper spray gun as well. Once you've perfected it we will all drop our bikes round seeing how you enjoy cleaning so much. Cheers .

You don't have to add thinner to ACF50 just adjust the nozzle of the gun and it will work fine. I have use the same gun for waxoyl and it is a lot thicker. Downside of the gun is that will go through a bottle in 1 min if you don't ajusted correctly. I use a small cheap mini LVLP spray gun and it works fine.

I did mine this morning co-incidentally, used the old fashioned method though with the pump bottle and a cloth and a cup of tea in between. :-D That compressor sprayer is for jetting degreaser or kerosene for cleaining engine bays etc, it won't atomise it into a fine mist, for that you really need an airless spraying machine but I'm betting one of those spray guns for treating wooden fences would work and they're not that expensive either.

Weird - it atomised water a treat when I tested it with that initially - in fact it got me very excited! Will try a paint gun instead me things.

Could warm the ASF50 up prior to applying it, praps sit the reservoir in a bucket of warm water to get it less viscous 👍🏻
