Not all polyester is created equal! Some of my favourite and longest-lasting dresses are polyester or some polyester mix. Synthetic fabrics can actually be very high-quality and pleasant. But for some reason everyone still seems to associate polyester with those piss poor quality gross fabrics...

Ever since I got together with my boyfriend two years ago who studies in a different city (meaning we spend weekends together with either him coming to my place or me to his) I realised which items of clothing I actually like and pack regularly and which pieces I rarely ever wear or want to take with me - this has helped me a lot with clearing out and streamlining my wardrobe

I did the list tip recently and I’ve found that so many of the “minimalist wardrobe essentials” are things I hate on me and never reach for because they don’t suit my life as a stay at home mom. I have no use for a blazer of any kind, no use for heels of any kind, no use for a white button down etc. I would always buy these things thinking they would “complete” my wardrobe but I would constantly declutter them too. Once I figured stuff like that out I automatically felt better about my wardrobe. I also listed trendy items I would occasionally purchase and declutter as they came in and out of fashion. Things like off the shoulder tops that you need a special kind of bra for, or things like leopard print that I never reach for. It applies also to makeup for me too: no matter how much people say that red lipstick and black eye liner are makeup “staples”, every time I see myself in the mirror I think they look too harsh and clownish on me. Once we free ourselves from these “essentials”, we can find out what actually IS essential for our own lives and just stick with that because we know it makes us happy!

Totally agree with the both of you and always found it absolutely ridiculous, but fell for it too. I've probably owned 20 white t-shirts because.... I felt like I needed to make it work, but I HATE wearing a white t-shirt and have never made it work for me.

First, I have a real issue with the term “boring”. When I was young and would complain about being bored my parents would say “Only boring people get bored” and then hand me the vacuum cleaner. Clothes aren’t entertainment. Besides, for me, less choices means less decision fatigue.

Yeah…ppl who ask this must still be buying poor quality clothes. Once I like for real made the switch from fast fashion to only buying high quality clothes such as designer & sustainable clothing-boy does it set the bar high. You literally become bored with shopping at normal stores unlike how I use to think that was fun. I don’t anymore. Because it’s rare that unless it’s something I have on my wishlist that’s high quality it simply doesn’t stand a chance lol. And because things on my wishlist are expensive I can’t just go out and impulse buy them-they have to be planned purchases. And nothing beats the feeling of getting a high quality material item in the mail that you literally can’t stop thinking about or wearing for months and it’s the only thing you want to wear. For a long time. It’s seriously life changing.

I'm retired and stick around the house mostly and don't do a lot but I still have a minimalist wardrobe of classics and I always look chic and pulled together. No torn denim, no sweatpants, no pajamas in public, no broken shoes. There is no reason not to dress well even if you're at home. You will always feel good dressed better, wearing clothes you love.

Naja, I love your style and your channel ❤️ and yes! Understanding what you don’t like is the key, it took me several years. I did a lot of trial and error. a lot of times I was so unhappy with my wardrobe I just gave it ALL away and “started fresh” to get a clearer view. And each time, I purchased new clothes, and ended up doing it all over again a few months later 🤦🏻‍♀️ so wasteful! thank god I finally know exactly what I like ( it’s a very specific list) and more importantly what I don’t like (to the smallest details!)

It is true about what you said about not compromising. I think that I know exactly what I love, but I keep buying cheaper versions of it. I don't wear the cheaper versions because I don't like polyester, but convince myself that I will not mind. What a waste of money. I fear that I will ruin my beloved dresses because I will wear them out. So burying s cheap version is what I do, but it does not always work out. Thanks for another great video

I am actually less bored when owning fewer clothes. They can all be mixed and matched with one another and I use more creativity coming up with different outfits with the same clothes. Before everything I had was worn as only one outfit and I got bored really fast with each and kept buying...

I agree with only buying things you absolutly love but also choosing things that you will use often because is practical and you end up using it a lot more. I wait a few months before I buy something to see if I still love it and how it will be very practical and versatile.

Great video! If you have a piece of clothing that you love, look great in, and feel awesome and attractive when you are wearing it, it allows you to relax and be in the moment. It's hard to be bored when you feel good. On the other hand, I've put on something, gone out and known by the time I took it off that I would never wear it again. Something about it was "off" and I didn't feel good. It sometimes isn't until you've spent some time in an outfit that you know it's found a home in your life.

The trick I have found for finding out what I truly love and what I don't have been to write down things without looking at the item. When I think about an item and try to put words on what I like or don't about it, I don't get "blinded" like I would with a picture by the one thing that attracts me about it (like a great color). It also helped me pinpoint the things that I don't like and get much more picky in stores. I will concede that it is time consuming though 😅 but to me it's time devoted to clothes, just like going shopping so works for me ^^

Such truth!! And that's especially helpful considering, "Is this only exciting because it is new?" I tell myself with anything stripes that I already have enough clothing that has stripes, lol. I love all of the items you showed -- simply beatiful! Once again, you have inspired me. By the way, thanks to you, I have gotten rid of about 30 clothing items this week, some of which I have had for over ten years and just couldn't seem to part with! It really is true, I now feel SO excited when I look at my wardrobe, actually knowing how great everything looks with what's still there 😄 Thank you, Naja!

I've just come across you Naja :D. It is so interesting what you say about 'new'. It makes so much sense ~ we get carried away with having something new even when we may already have similar things in our wardrobe. I did a huge declutter when I moved house two years ago and I am trying to live by a more minimalist code and also buy quality over cheaper or 'fast fashion'. It is really paying off although it needs willpower at times. As an artist, I am really drawn to colour and pattern. Yet, I realise these are the things I can tire of whereas the simpler, classic less busy clothing is so much more wearable and has longer appeal.

Love this video, you are so right, newness is a trap - it masks a lot of flaws with a piece, and I’ve fallen into that trap a lot over the years, being disenchanted with an item once the newness wears off - but i’ve gotten better at being super choosy: you really have to work at it. Thanks again!!!

I have no problem with a small wardrobe. my only issue here is how to keep them like new. of course, I already purchased high-quality items, at least to me, the ones that I can afford. since I live in a tropical country, we sweat a lot. I struggle with it as well. I’ve been trying to hand-wash all my summer clothing and cashmeres. And sending my coats to a laundry once a year. I got a washing bag and never wash my jeans without it. It’s been working. But inevitably our clothing will last less.
