You guys are joining kinda late, lol. But I guess age is just a number. I'm 25 right now, I'm not that old yet... been on and off in college like a lot of people. I'm in the process of joining in and i have the perfect physical MEPS, nothing disqualifying and I have perfect vision, perfect hearing, no medical, mental, etc. problems. Only problem right now that is setting me back are my scores. I keep scoring in my 60s but I was literally a few points away from my job, now my 3rd re-take is this December, I hope I can at least score significantly higher so I can finally get the list of dream jobs I qualify for.
@MysticTheStrider7 жыл бұрын
+obiwanchic If you kinda have some college degree, why not go commissioned/line officer route? I met some people who are actually enlisting in the military, also in the Air Force with at least a Bachelor's degree in whatever major they were in, but apparently they don't want the stressful or responsibilities they get as an officer, which is understandable.
@starshell847 жыл бұрын
obiwanchic I'm 31 going on to 32 next month I've been thinking of joining since 27 yrs old but just a lot of things got in the way I suffer from GERDS which is severe acid reflux and nausea this is something that got worse last year so I'm afraid it would interfere with me joining now but I really want too before it's way to late no kids yet no college degree so I feel like this is my calling
@MysticTheStrider7 жыл бұрын
+starshell84 This is gonna be a super long post so bear with me. So here's the thing, the Air Force is one one of the picky branch since they're the popular branch which is closest to civilian life so they have high standards of enlistment. So if you have something that's a disqualifying factor like that medical condition you mentioned, you might have some problems joining. I know some acquaintances and buddies of mine that were interested in joining but the USAF turned them down due to some medical problems or several other disqualifying factors. If there's nothing else then you should be qualified to join. There are waivers that can be approved but sometimes an Air Force recruiter has the right not to work with you or not, there's a lot of those recruiters that don't know a lot of things or don't want to work with you. Active Duty Air Force is a little more strict than Air National Guard and Air Reserves, so if they don't let you in then there's the Air Guard and Air Reserve which is par-time military (1 weekend of the month and 14 days of the year), but there are also full time opportunities with them which is about the same if not more than Active Duty pay, plus you're more closer to home if you don't want to get deployed as often. The cut off age is changed to 40 for enlisted Airmen that they change last year. I'm actually fortunate enough to ace my physical at MEPS with a perfect record, no medical problems, 100% on everything, only problem that's setting me back is my ASVAB scores because I really want to get into Computer programming, networking, Geospatial Intelligence, or at least into Space ops which requires a little higher score which I was literally a few points away.... By the way, what do you want to do in the Air Force as far as the job you want to get in? Have you tried talking to an Air Force recruiter for active duty, Air Guard, or Reserves yet? What did they say?

I love how you mention the marines calling out the Air Force. My husband is a marine, and he makes me watch videos of boot camp, and tells me horror stories. It makes the air force sound like a spa day! I'm glad to hear no swimming though, because my biggest fear is something going wrong in the water. My husband said that they had to jump off a platform in full gear, and I know that if I had to do that, I'd drown. Your videos have cleared up every fear I've had!

The peanut butter shot might give you a limp for a minute, but that's about it hahah. You'll get a decent amount of shots, but none of them should do anything to you. The peanut butter shot is the only one that has some kick to it and they poke you in one of your butt cheeks, but even then it's just the soreness that'll make you limp for a bit, if at all.

Hi Sheryl! I really want to wait until I can give a in depth video about that topic to talk about it but I do NOT want you to worry. BMT is just about the LAST place that something like that would happen now a days. They have a wingman program in place where you cannot go anywhere without another person going through basic with you, and they must be the same gender. So do NOT worry! I don't want to say it's impossible but the chances of something like that happening now is highly highly unlikely, I really hope that eases your mind!

@ToTBlacksmith7 жыл бұрын
Push ups, sit ups, and 1.5 mile run are what you'll be tested on. With the pt you'll do daily, unless something changed (which in this case I doubt it did) you'll be running in a big circle with maybe 2-3 other flights at your own pace. As long as you keep moving and don't stop, no one's going to bother you. Work on improving your strength with push ups and sit ups and build your cardio up by running. What you'll do in bmt is alternate between calisthenics (push ups, jumping jacks, crunches, etc.) one day and jogging on a track for 30 minutes. So do that 6 days a week and you'll be just fine.
@MysticTheStrider7 жыл бұрын
I've been working on a lot of exercises throughout the years of looking at different workout programs, I'm not bulking up anything which is bad because that adds a lot of weight, but I'm at a perfect weight at my height and age. I'm wondering if pull-ups are a little necessary? I heard it's 5-10 pull-ups for thunderbolt or some of the special reward badges or honor grad you get for graduating from BMT.
@ToTBlacksmith7 жыл бұрын
Yeah that's literally all it counts for. Unless you're a battlefield airmen you won't do pull ups for the pt test once you're in the operational Air Force. As long as you work out semi regularly, you'll be fine.

If you're in a serious relationship, I'm talking Years and Years, and you're both enlisting, is it best to get married before getting in? If not, what if you plan on getting married eventually, I imagine it's difficult
@paxanimasol17615 жыл бұрын
Best to be married. You can live together and you won't get separated when you're assigned to your base. More money too.

Generally the stereotype is that the air force is more wimpy physically, but also a bit more academic. When I think of the most physically demanding, I think of the marines and army. The navy is sort of in between. I don't know much about the coast guard.

So height isn't a real issue? or just something that is over looked?
@ToTBlacksmith7 жыл бұрын
Minimum height for females is 4.8 ft unless they changed it. So unless you're 4 ft 7 in you should be fine.

@mirandagollnick7 жыл бұрын
You have to take out any and all piercings while at boot camp! But after that you can have one piercing in your lower eat lob as long as the jewelry is in regs

This video was so helpful for me. Do any of the ladies in your flight who joined older have their own KZfaq channel? I would love to hear about their experiences.

Hey ran into your youtube channel. I'm glad you're around to share your journey with other girls that might be interested in joining the airforce. Still looking forward to the sexual assault video.

How does one deal with the yelling though? I'm kinda sensitive, like I get teary eyed when I get yelled at by my parents, but I don't when it's people other than them. Don't get me wrong my parents are awesome but it kinda sucks when they're yelling at you. I'm really considering joining the Air Force but I don't know if I have the thick skin to deal with the yelling cause tearing up would be embarassing :/
@Msrainbowzebras987 жыл бұрын
Hana Sophia Don't be worried about the yelling! It's a mind game, the goal for them is to break you down, so whenever they're yelling, just remember it's their job and don't take it seriously! You can get through it!!

Hana Sophia I really want to know how many people cry and how often. I feel like I'd be a ball of tears the first week, and then I'd be fine.
@hanafaizah94857 жыл бұрын
Oddly enough I also think I'll probably end up doing that too. But I have a habit of putting on a brave facade when I'm around people other than immediate family. Hopefully I can force myself to suck it up and stop the waterworks even though I may not be actually offended, it's more like a sucky reflex action and its so annoying.

Hana Sophia if you can't handle a Sgt raising his voice don't join.
@hanafaizah94857 жыл бұрын
I know I can handle a Sgt yelling at me, it's their job to break us down and build us up anew. That I can handle no problem. My problem is that I can't control myself when it's my family that's yelling at me, since it's much more personal and I have to deal with them after the argument. With said Sgt they have a lot of other recruits to yell at so the focus isn't solely on me, unlike family arguments.

if you can't handle being yelled at, or hate needles, or can't put your phone away for more then an hour do not join. do the military a favor and stay home
