In the 80s and 90s I had many Caribbean pals in London. They hated Africans, made fun of them, did silly accents depicting them. Meanwhile Africans avoided Caribbeans. Called them lazy and rarely mixed with them. As a white guy this always perplexed me.

Just wanna say, the term "absent fathers" seems to imply that said fathers have done a runner from their responsibilities. However, it happens for a whole spectrum of reasons. Sometimes the mother isn't 'behaving herself' and so he has no choice. Sometimes they just don't get along and unfortunately the primary care giver defaults to the mother.

I love Britain and I love being British and I do think we have come along way but there is a little more work to be done. Many black people have come here in Windrush etc and own their own homes and worked incredibly hard but many have also experienced incredible amounts of racism which is not reported in stats. For the most part we are absolutely doing our best to create an inclusive Britain but as I said some people are still struggling with racism and the effects of racism from generations before. Let's just keep working together to make this wonderful country a place where all of us can live without fear and support each other in love. I believe its possible

Well, I’m a liberal, not woke, but a liberal nonetheless. I realise she has conservative leanings, but if you ACTUALLY read the report, everything she says is absolutely true. Individual examples of racism definitely exist, but generally speaking, we are not a racist country. You’re entitled to ‘believe’ otherwise. You’re entitled to any opinion you wish to have, however deluded.

I’m glad you’re so sure. I voted remain, but I’m not closed-minded enough to believe that millions of Brexit voters were racist. Like I say, you have a right to your opinion, and it is ONLY an opinion, though you claim to know. When someone is so sure of something, one would imagine that they may have verifiable facts to back it up. I’m afraid that, though I’m a left-leaning liberal, the facts are indisputable, the facts and the statistics back up the content of the report. I actually read it, I admit I was also a little cynical, that it may be tendentious in the least, but it isn’t. And, though Mercy is a conservative, it does not mean that she’s incapable of balance. Politically, I’m very non-conservative, but I believe in a balanced approach to important subjects. Race suffers from bigoted opinions from either side of the argument. One thing Mercy cannot be accused of is skin colour-based racism.

@@Dionysos640 Voting Brexit doesn't make people racist, and lumping everyone into that bracket shows people like you are a big part of the problem. I voted to leave, purely because I was sick of Junker and his obvious Britain despising ways, and sick of Cameron still sucking up to him anyway, telling us that to leave would be disastrous. If you can tell me how that makes me a racist, then I would like to hear it.

As Neil alluded to there is a seemingly wilful effort to lump together people who may be of the same racial group, but who have vastly different cultures and traditions. The same thing appears to have happened fairly recently in the US where they now refer to the various Asian ethnic groups as AAPI, Asian American, Pacific Islanders. And apart from race there is of course the ever growing and ubiquitous LGBTQI+. These acronyms usually originate from far left so called advocacy groups, but what you need to remember is that ultimately, and usually purely, these people are trying to accumulate power for their own ends. By placing people who may have little in common with each other, indeed some of whom historically have been hostile towards each other, or who's mere existence contradicts each other, see LGBTQI+, there is an attempt at creating voting blocks that can be controlled.

We've come a long way. It's not that long ago since racism was widespread in the UK. I'm 39 and remember it well. I went to a mostly white lower school, where the only mixed race child in the class received quite a lot of abuse. The rubbish teacher, who couldn't control the class was mostly to blame. She left and the new teacher clamped down on it. Nowadays a lot of racism is between ethnic minorities. A few years ago, I witnessed a Chinese waiter being racially abused by some black customers and more recently an Pakistani telling someone to bugger off back to Bangladesh. BLM have also been responsible for a lot of racism.
@DieFlabbergast
@DieFlabbergast 11 ай бұрын
If a Pakistani displays hatred or contempt for a Bangladeshi, that cannot be described as "racism" any more than a similar situation between an English person and an Irish person, for example: in both cases, these people are the same "race." There is no Pakistani or English "race." The word you are looking for is xenophobia. Many such attitudes are deeply rooted in the histories of the ethnic groups in question. I know some English people who strongly dislike folk from Yorkshire: is THAT racism?

I was accused of an overt racist post on Facebook because I dared to point out the percentage of Blacks, Asians, Whites and other in the last census of the U.K. I’m particularly interested in the term fair representation when those shouting the loudest atm represent just 3.7% of the population. That said, I believe any racism or prejudice should be severely dealt with, unfortunately authorities across the globe tend to either go soft on it or ignore it completely. If this happened to me I’d be indignant as well. Why should anyone be judged on skin colour or what they sound like!

Kids with successful parents tend to learn to communicate effectively. They also learn confidence, ambition and drive. It does not guarantee success nor does it exclude those who don't have this upbringing. But it is certainly an advantage. And of course the elephant in the room is intelligence which is hereditary. It is very clear why there is a social divide and this social divide exists in all cultures. Yes people from any background should be able to progress, and they do. But the majority will not and to assign this to racism is just another example of people using the race card to get access to unfair advantage through positive discrimination.

It understands that the UK isn't divided into white people and others, and that non white populations have a myriad of different problems and outcomes, that whityes don't come out on top, and recognises that racism is an issue in some quarters and we should do more to address it, but that to call the UK "institutionally racist" as its principle descriptor on the final analysis is absurd.
