Hey Chico. Greetings from Ontario Canada. I only learned about your channel about 2 months ago. I am almost 65 and built plastic models since I was about 5 yrs old. ( With my Moms help of course. lol ) It was always a hobby but I was eventually able to build replicas for various companies around town including company pickup trucks and vans and Semi trucks and trailers .By the time I reached 55yrs my eyes were starting to let me down and past head injuries were causing hand tremors that made it very to build models to the level that I was used to. I had always had friendly banter with friends of mine who collected 1/18th scale diecasts since you didn't put any work into them. I soon changed my mind. After a year of not being able to work on 1/25th scale plastic kits someone asked me if I could repair plastic frame and parts on a 1/18th scale diecast car that had been dropped, and a body paint job. I said sure, I would try. It was a lot of fun. I can't do fine detail but the bigger scale was nice to work on. Well, the flood gates opened . I started buying broken diecast cars and trucks and pieces off Ebay. I then started building ramp bodies and building or extending frames for truck bodies. I also build goose neck trailers or open trailers and closed Tag trailers. I have built up a nice collection of diecasts including broken ones that I could modify. I like to turn them into drag cars and Pro Streets and Gassers. I don't sell anything I build or repair. My toy room desk is a mess. I too have to have plenty of light. I love seeing your collection. I'm sorry that my note is so long. Keep up the great videos.

Chico, I appreciate you making this video on the different types of glue that you use for your modeling you are a wealth of information ❗👌... Please keep making your videos don't ever think about stopping because you got people out here they love you and like the videos you're making. God bless you brother. But I do have a question for you were you in the Marine corps yes or no ❓🤔. Because if you are that's probably the reason why I keep looking at your videos. Along with the fact that I like the models that you make reviews on and some of the models I bought was because of what I seen on your channel ❗💯....

Hey Chico, I've never taken apart an ertl 1-18 diecast car and need too...can you walk me through the steps to separate the body from the frame? I've been talking with you about my 70 buick gsx in another comment here and just found your channel and love it...new subscriber!

OK Jhon, I need you to follow me on this I’m 71 and I’ve been modeling most of my adult life as a kid I built thousands of model cars but time for the service and raising the family you can understand is a little time off there, so I mostly build airplanes and ships I’ve had six serious accidents with diecast cars that I didn’t have to take a part. My first advice to you is to make sure you have really good modeling tools drills, Dremel, screwdrivers, different cutters you know the drill if I was going to take a diecast car apart I start with the wheels, then separate the chassis And the rest should be easy from there. You may have to drill a few things off or just unscrew it take your time there are small replacement parts and you can change wheels that you can order some stuff you can’t order so you want to be careful when you’re taking this car part, I know what you’re up against if you run into a real problem I’ll try and talk you through it with my best guess,but it sounds like you already know what to do. I’m not sure if your repairs are going to require filling, sanding, and/or painting I use both rattle cans and air brush and probably 20 different kinds of sandpaper files to try and get things smooth enough for painting and you still have to use a clear coat if it’s on the body when you’re done. I’m not sure what you will run into but I’m always willing to help I’m cleaning up my modeling room as we speak I’ve got a 1/200 scale Enterprise to finish I have a long way to go I live in Phila so again I don’t know what time zone you’re in up till about 11:00 pm I’m up ok my NEW FRIEND LOL 😂 let’s see how it comes out….. Luckily I had one sitting here doing nothing..lol...thank you for your tips and knowledge!! That's priceless. What about gluing diecast pieces together? I know it's taboo but I absolutely need to or loose $200! Its a very rare car...It's in an inconspicuous place on the bottom of car so don't really care how it looks but absolutely needs to be strong.
@chicosmodelscollectioncara6559
@chicosmodelscollectioncara6559 Жыл бұрын
Hi there, Mr. Wagner, you know I really didn’t cover enough on gluing pieces together. When I thought about it, I should’ve put together a better demonstration. It was kind of a impromptu thing, but here’s what I would do. I would definitely use super glue depending on the nature in the size of the brake or crack maybe superglue gel, which is messy and takes a little longer to set up. I would try to superglue in a way that you can’t see the repair, but if it needs to be really strong then I would re-glue over that crack to give it strength with superglue. This is from experience not from guesswork I have a $300 airplane my stealth fighter from Franklin, mint and the landing gear broke the front wheel and a side wheel at first I super glued it and it fell apart so I super glued it again and then went over that a second and third time that Repair is now held for years although I’m very careful when I move and dust the airplane this is my best advice. I don’t claim to be a professional, but I’ve been fooling with Models for a lot of years. I hope this information helps you out. I would like to know how you make out, so stay safe my friend peace out your friend, Chico/;>)

@@chicosmodelscollectioncara6559 Thank you for responding so quickly! I think I will try that but add the baking soda trick too. I watched a couple videos on that and was completely blown away by the results. A guy on one video did it in real time. After the baking soda was applied, about a couple of minutes curing time, he tried to break the repair and it broke in every OTHER place BUT the repair location! Just unbelievable and that was just regular super glue....WOW! Thanks again and I'll let you know.

@chicosmodelscollectioncara6559 Жыл бұрын
You know, I should’ve thought of that. I read your your question and wanted to give you a response. I know you want to fix whatever it is that’s broken I actually forgot about baking soda. The next thing about fixing your model will be some sort of touchup whether it be paint or whatever it may be to try and keep the repair invisible you said it was on the bottom so it won’t show, there’s also another repair procedure which is two parts where use braided glue or spread the glue and then you put the second part on which is the Hardner and I understand that’s supposed to be very good too and also I forgot to bring up the three second UV light Adhesive which works great my man I’ve done repairs on my diecast cars with the three second UV light and it holds up but let’s face it I’m not a kid I don’t play with them keep them dusted and on the shelf anyway I hope all this works out for you and thank you for looking at my videos and taking the time to even ask me the question I feel honored. Have a good day my friend.

@@chicosmodelscollectioncara6559 This repair that I need to do is actually a part of the body of the car....it's on a 1-18 diecast 70 buick gsx, it was a convertible conversion where the roof was cut off and somehow the guy I just bought it from dropped it or who knows but it cracked on both sides where the sill plates sit bottom of the body..I wish I could send some pics to you to show you. The repair is going to have to be somewhat strong...since it's the "frame" of the car....I almost think that super glue even with the baking soda trick won't hold....maybe a better 2 part apoxy would be best...again, this car is one of 12 ever made so I'm nervous. I will say that since my 1st post to you, the seller gave me a full refund but I'm still thinking of offering him a bit of money so maybe I can keep it and try fixing it...I don't believe he really wants it much anymore but I'll still have to have it fixed.

I have a 1:18 Smokey and the Bandit 77 trans am die cast car that arrived with (among other damages) the A pilar cracked (metal) cracked. What glue is good for metal to metal repair? I even tried JB weld with no success. It was replaced by a Burt Reynolds signed one, so this one has been sitting for years waiting to be repaired. Any ideas? Anybody can respond I guess. Thanks.
@chicosmodelscollectioncara6559
@chicosmodelscollectioncara6559 6 ай бұрын
Woo that’s a good question you didn’t specify is the a pillar cracked along the roof or at the firewall I don’t think I would’ve use JB weld believe it or not gorilla superglue might work now again I don’t know if you can push the crack together or if you’re going to have a small gap where it’s broken I would use the gel if there’s a gap I’d super glue it and let that superglue dry for at least 24 hours before I did anything else most people don’t give the glue time to really cure. I did fix a crack in a diecast car with the ultraviolet three second glue and it’s held to this day, although I’m very careful with the car if this car is signed by Burt Reynolds, you really want to be very careful about the way you go to repair this thing…..I’m a think about this some more and I’ll get back to you. That’s my best guess for now all right thanks Chico.

One more thing to glue your model you got a glue it, so it’s almost invisible that means underneath or behind I wish I could see what’s broke. I realize a signed Burt Reynolds model is expensive. Not sure why you didn’t go for a replacement or did this model break because you dropped it the thing I’m trying to say is is it repairable without taking this model car apart which would require may be sanding and painting I don’t want to give you the wrong information so I’m just trying to cover my bases. You can email me a picture if you want here’s my email White.percy2@gmail.com 👍🏿👋🏿

I wish I could see a picture of it but let’s move on. So the mirror is plastic and diecast if you can tape it in place to hold it and the fit of the peace is tight so you can’t see the broken mirror I would use Super Glue and glue the edges just enough so when you put the two parts together it doesn’t squeeze out. I weigh not use model cement or three seconds cement super glue between the two parts is your best fix I hope this works for you please let me know how it works out. /;>). Chico👍🏿

I'm sorry about that first answer I gave you I wrote it at the VA Hospital and I checked it and I see some of it didn't come out correctly I was trying to say that because the parts are combination of plastic and diecast according to you super glue would be your best bet you must be careful not to get fingerprints on it this should work for you when you put the two parts together hopefully the crack will almost disappear if you can't hold it super glue will give you just enough time to try and put it in place and then maybe trying hold it with some tape I apologize for that first answer I hope this works for you please keep me informed your friend Chico

I hate krazy glue. It dries up too fast. Then if you don't have eneough it's a disaster. It's good if you don't see it. But if a attena is off. It can end up as bubble. I'll use model glue . Or something else..it's risky to buy Ertyl especially 20 year old product...store owners are rough with them. Always look at the box if it's rough don't buy it. I learned my lesson

@chicosmodelscollectioncara6559
@chicosmodelscollectioncara6559 6 ай бұрын
Yes it does you must make sure it clean I don’t know what you’re your gluing on the car sometime to repair something on diecast you need to add some material to help the two parts stay together a string strip. I’m sure you know what that is and that would help the two pieces stay together. I hope this helps.

Ok it’s a Train/so I’m assuming the body is broken I would fix it from the inside IF possible again is it a old fashioned train or newer now if you have to repair it from the outside your gonna probably need a piece of polystyrene now how thick I don’t know and your gonna need to paint it up when you’re done still I don’t know what you’re trying to fix AREYOU just trying to fix it and be done with it again I don’t know Fixing cracked diecast is tricky use super glue and baking soda is a good way But you need to sand it paint it these are just a few ways to work on it but still gorilla glue is one of the best if I was going to fix it, glue it give it 24 hours to set and cure and see what you got. If it doesn’t hold, then you got your work cut out for you in order to repair this train that I’m assuming you love next to taking it into a shop that can do it for you. I’m no expert, but these are some of the things I’ve done to fix my broken diecast from cars to airplanes and trucks.
