@@rbrannon have you ever been in a union? i have, it's definitely not like that. obviously there are good and bad experiences with anything, but my experience (and that of most people i know) is that unions help us feel closer to our peers and empower us. and how much does it cost? it depends on the union and sometimes on your wages, but anywhere from the price of a coffee per month, to the price of a restaurant meal per month. many smaller unions have exemptions for the poor and unemployed looking for work. most importantly, unions represent all workers, whether they're dues-paying members or not. the primary reason for the passing of the new deal and the prosperity of america during the post-war era was the strength of the labor movement; the reason wages haven't increased with productivity since the 70's is the dismantling of unions after the end of the new deal coalition: workers no longer had a voice. if the minimum wage had gone up with productivity & inflation, it would be over $19 by now. it was union-organised strikes in the 20's and 30's that won americans weekends and 8 hour work days. that's the kind of organising america, and the world, needs right now. the kind that can actually change lives. i think unions are the place to do it. outside of party, outside of belief, people coming together to make their lives better together.

Right there with ya brother. I sort of stumbled here as well. Thanks for bringing a tiny slice of the left to this discussion. I grew up Christian and I believe I still am. However living in America grates on anyone with sense of morality. I grew up watching the messages of radical love and acceptance through Christ be co-opted by a politicians that used all the verbiage of Protestantism with none of the care for the poor or the down-trodden. I was told that what made Christ worth following was his rejection of greed and love for those that society felt weren't clean enough to commune with the divine. But then the same people that taught me these things abandoned those beliefs for neo-liberal capitalism. Instead of bringing people together they used my faith to divide the working class. To turn us against our neighbors for little more than greed and power. So I had enough. Didn't want to hear it anymore. Ironically, if it wasn't for a few philosophy professors I had at the regional school I went to I'd have given up on believing in a higher power altogether. Today I still feel isolated and it's hard, but there are Christian voices out there that see the injustice, the greed, and the exploitation. There are entire theologies of liberation and social concern that just never made it to me in Oklahoma. And honestly I've decided that I can keep my faith and still wish to help my community build those dual power structures, the same way Christ visited the sick, drove out the merchants, and fed the gathered masses.

I listen to 💙 Biden/Harris speak of ‘greedy’ rich corporations and how they will repeal the TCJA (Tax Cuts & Job Act) on day 1 which will increase both middle class & upper class taxes. One might tell themselves ‘Even though my taxes are going up (disadvantage to me) it’s for the communities (advantage)’ but I ask is it? In the TCJA is where the individual mandate was removed. If that is repealed some of our community will have to pay the government for not being able to afford government health insurance. (I personally fall in this category; was fined $3,400 for not being able to afford $1,300 a month health plan with a $10,000 deductible) I am middle class income. Oh AND I have pre-Existing conditions. Cervical cancer in 2014. Also Middle Class taxes are raised by 3 or 4% instantly if TCJA is repealed. Is that good for the community? One might still think it is the right thing to allow the government force higher taxes and more mandates, but let me say one more thing. These ‘greedy’ rich corporations that you want to pay higher taxes for the good of our communities HOW DO these earn their business? The answer is they HAVE to offer valuable services or products to the American people to EARN our business. Do you think people have 401ks and retirement plans with these ‘greedy’ corporations? When their profit goes up from paying less tax what does that do for our community? They have more money to hire more people? Or invest back in their company which in turn increases those retirement funds? Let’s look at the flip side of things. Let’s say we increase taxes for us and those ‘greedy’ rich corporations. Where is that money going? It’s going to the government. The government forces the American people to pay them by gun point. (Figure of Speech) They create laws and mandates. So basically Biden = Bigger Government and Trump = Bigger Economy Now some might think bigger government is better for our community so it is worth the disadvantage. That is when I ask each and everyone who cares enough to look into the policies that will most likely be enforced. More than likely if Biden wins he will allow government funding to health facilities that perform abortions. Including Late Term Abortion (Trump stopped that) Beware of the smooth talkers with forked tongues. Do your research. God's expectation is that all mankind is to work...this was even mandated before the fall. Only the widows, orphans and the poor...those who are unable to work are to be helped...through family, and charity from the church...not the government. Speaking as a Christian I think a fundamental misunderstanding of many of my evangelical friends is that neither party is "pro-abortion" both believe it is tragic. However, one believes it is a complex, tragic, and morally nuanced decision and as such should be left to the individual while the other party wishes to impose a strict and blind moral code on others. The bible explicitly calls us to serve the underprivileged, to be merciful to criminals, to welcome and protect immigrants and travelers and to give of ourselves. There is no explicit imperative in regards to abortion in the bible. It is never mentioned once. We can imply things from other sections but there is no clear single answer in the bible and even conflicting information as with many dilemmas we face in life. As such I think the decision for voting is granted some clarity.

Imo, abortion should be 100% legal in 1st trimester when the mother's life is at risk. However, if you really want to make the argument all abortion is bad, anti-abortion candidates need to be willing to provide government healthcare because people who are having abortions are not ready to accept the opportunities of parenting.

@Joseph Logsdon I agree with a lot of what you're saying. I agree that tribalism/ partisanship is problematic & overly simplified. And that Biblical views are not limited to one party. But those left-leaning things you support are all pro-life. They all help people stay alive and healthy. Additionally, they tend to decrease demand for abortion. If a woman (or a couple) has no access to affordable healthcare, and her job won't give her much (if any) maternity leave, and she's earning an un-livable minimum wage, she'll be more tempted to choose abortion. (Even if it's illegal) Even compared to adoption. She'd still need prenatal care & maternity leave, which, in those situations would be unpaid leave. I'm not saying that makes it ok to abort, but desperate people often reach for desperate measures. Removing/ decreasing the desperation (and helping empower people to do the hard thing) is more effective than simply banning something. The Prohibition Era didn't stop people from drinking. It started an underground market. You mention tribalism, yet you seem to accept the tribalistic assumption that there's only one way to apply Biblical pro-life beliefs to political policies & parties. Or that all informed/ devout Christians agree that the Bible condemns loving, same-gender marriage. (It's not just a fringe belief to disagree with the traditional view. It's not just a hedonistic or pick-and-choose perspective, although there are those who take that approach. But I'm talking about theological, academic research that looks at the linguistic, historical, cultural, & theological context of those (few) verses.) Good Christians can have different beliefs on those things. Additionally, there are certain issues on which we can have a theologically conservative belief, but a sociopolitically liberal perspective. Because of separation of church and state. I don't think it's appropriate or helpful to impose Christian rules on non-Christians. (Especially if it's consenting adults who aren't hurting anyone.) It's also about the Golden Rule. If you don't want Islamic or Jewish (etc) or secular rules to be imposed on us, then why should we impose Christian rules on them or anyone else?

I believe that one of the main reasons is that modern followers of Christ have become more religious and partisan than spiritual and wise. They are so concerned about preserving their past traditions instead of sticking to the core values of Christianity. Let us remember what the Word says: True worshippers worship in Spirit and Truth. Let us all remember that our love for God and our neighbors must prevail when making critical decisions.

If you feel there is not a csndidate that is viable for you, you have options to not vote, or write in a vote. We have local things that need to be voted on ad well. Take care.

My views have changed radically over the years too. It started when I got a job at an inner-city health clinic in their HIV program. The things I was told, and believed, as a conservative were shattered daily as I saw individuals, not a nameless, faceless group. When I'd tell my conservative family and friends things I'd observed, I could see walls go up. They literally did not want to hear, or believe, what I was saying. On another note, a few years ago my very conservative brother- and sister-in-law bought a Prius. My sister-in-law's sister, probably even more conservative than they are, was appalled because everyone knows a Prius is a 'liberal' car. When she told me that, I couldn't help but laugh because I wasn't aware cars had ideologies!

@jason thomas Abortion has been with us since the beginning of time and will not go away. A Trump presidency will not eliminate abortion. We have had a Republican majority on the Supreme Court for decades and yet abortion is still with us. Reversing Roe v. Wade will not stop abortions--it will just return the decision of legal v. illegal abortion back to the states. It will be like it was before Roe v. Wade where women seeking abortions travel to states where it's legal, or find a provider who performs them illegally. The real question is WHY women seek abortions. I would be willing to bet there is at least one women who has had an abortion, many more who've contemplated it, within most churches. Being able to minister to these women before they have an abortion is where we need to focus.

That's exactly what he said. The problem with the church is their obsession with a ranking order. The "least of these" is everyone in the group that he mentioned (unborn, immigrants, refugees, poor, imprisoned, etc). But according to the church, the least of these consists only of the unborn. That's why videos like this matter. It calls attention to the whole written word of God- not just the parts Christians are most comfortable addressing.

Look at all of the outreach done by all different denominations throughout our country, in every town, everywhere. I was the missions director at our church, and our outreach was to foreign missions, as well as local missions. Human needs were being met locally and worldwide. MANY, MANY other churches do the same. So abortion wasn't even addressed other than joining the 'walk for life" for any church to participate in. So, the Majority of our outreach DID address the other least of these. So please do not make a statement like that with the lack of info to prove it.

Except, there is no provision in the Bible that helping people should only come through two means - individual charity to others and support through a church. Supporting the poor, the immigrant, etc., can be done also through government action. Taxes you already pay go to feeding and housing the poor. The Bible doesn't care how Matthew 25:4 is carried out.

If the churches were taking care of the poor and widowed, etc, the government wouldn’t have to have stepped in.

It may seem that way to you, but what I have observed from Mr. Vischer since the current president was elected was more of a lecture/education on how 'white Christians' did it wrong. To be fair, I obviously keep listening and sometimes I am very pushed and challenged. However, sometimes I know their being Obviously bias and not giving all information.

This video is naive and simplified to the point of meaningless. Abortion is supported by one party, the Democrats -- and fully endorsed any time before birth (and ever AFTER) by both the head and VP on the ticket. This period of history is like living in the time of abolition debates in the British parliament when Christian PM William Wilberforce fought for years trying to ban slavery.

No one wants more abortion. The right seeks to reduce abortion by making it illegal. The left seeks to reduce abortion by making it less necessary. Which approach is more moral is an open question, but we know which approach is more effective. As it stands now, the liberal approaches have proven more effective in reducing abortions that the conservative approaches.

Is it not also WRONG and SINFUL to vote for candidates who consistently display the works of the flesh as described in Galatians 5:19, and who display none of the fruit of the spirit? Leadership matters and it's naive to think that any decision doesn't involve compromise of some sort.

I understand what you are trying to say but honestly, what is dividing us and rightfully so, is The Word of God. The Lord says that judgement will begin in the household of Faith and that He will separate the wheat from the tare - it is clear this is happening. I am personally upset by this video because Phil is suggesting that maybe it's not so bad to vote for a pro-abortion candidate, as long this person is using the apparatus of government to help people in other ways. It's really a bait-and-switch. His other video on abortion goes on to say that Republican candidates haven't really done a great job in lessening the quantity of abortions anyway. This is all very subtle, but wrong. You simply cannot and should not ever vote for a candidate that is pro-abortion, no matter what other issues are in play. Without the fundamental right to be born, there is no additional right to be considered. All sin is odious to God, but clearly murder is among the *most* destructive to society. No one should need to watch an actual video of an abortion, or a documentary on the emotional struggles of women who have had abortions, to understand how evil and destructive this singular act is. Phil displays a statement about the righteous being willing to be disadvantaged and then presents it *as though* it were from the book of Proverbs. I know he attributes Waltke, but make no mistake: He wants you to think this is a paraphrase of a Biblical quote. He may actually believe it is himself. However, it's not. The Biblical principle of service is done on two levels: via the Church as an organization; and on the personal level among your neighbors. Contrary to foolish worldly-wisdom, it does not take a village to raise a child. If it did, God would have given that mandate. Further, NO WHERE does the Bible suggest secular governments should be involved in charity, and this is where Mr. Vischer goes horribly awry in his thinking. In fact, if history teaches us anything in this regard, it's that government sponsored charity leaves communities in shambles in the long run. His teaching appears to be a thinly veiled social justice gospel. A big government candidate, good-hearted, good-intentioned though he/she may be, will only exacerbate society's miseries in the long run. Romans 13 teaches that we must respect government, because it's primary purpose from God is to protect us from evildoers. If we have the power to shape our own government, we should limit its authority to that sphere. The local church alone must operate in the spiritual sphere. The Founding Fathers understood this principle, and created an absolutely ingenious system to preserve these principles. I totally understand not voting for Trump. But please don't be fooled into thinking voting for any pro-abortion, big-government candidate is righteous or even reasonable. Even history shows that it's not.

Abortion actually does decrease significantly faster under democratic presidents (and I’m saying this as someone who isn’t a democrat). Not to mention... Trump isn’t pro-life himself. He’s paid for seven different women’s abortions (all proven with actual court cases, I promise) and is currently FORCING women on the borders of our country to have abortions and hysterectomies against their will. He’s forced more abortions on these women than he’s stopped within our own country, and these are facts. No candidate, no woman, democrat or republican is “for abortion” it’s a long painful process that we’d all like to avoid. I'm pretty sure old Phil is voting for Joe Biden, because Bernie is not on the ballot. He tries to sell himself as above politics and a moderate, but if you look at the guests and the ideas they are promoting on the Holy Post Podcast it leans decidedly left. Although I’m a conservative Christian but I vote liberal nationally. My reasoning behind that is that even though I’m a conservative Christian doesn’t mean everyone else is and my faith shouldn’t dictate others. My concern is me and my family There’s 300 million people in this country and every person has their own version of god and faith. I get more informed information about national and state elections than I do for local. Such as our local college has trustees that are voted in. I never get any information on who they are or what they do. Same with judges. drives me crazy trying to figure out how to be an informed voter when there is no information available.....

We make up the government, so they are one in the same. Biblical stories only speak of monarchies and theocracies, where the people and government are separate. But now we live in a democratic republic where we choose each other to represent us in government. So we are the government. And we can help more people together as a government than we can individually. If we still lived under a king, what you're saying would be true. But America never had a king, so the government was never separate from us.

I agree...but the church has failed miserably in some areas of ministering to the 'least of these.' One example is prison ministry. I remember Chuck Colson, founder of Prison Fellowship, stating that back in the 70s, the church was woefully absent from prison ministry. However, Muslims were not, which is how the Black Muslim movement began as many black prisoners responded to the Muslim presence in prison. Now there are many Christian prison ministries but the church missed a huge chance of reaching lost souls because we, for whatever reason, did not seek to minister to those in prison.
