How SINGING is not NATURAL TALENT

Many people think that they have be born with some sort of special talent when it comes to singing.
However any artist that you can name had to LEARN to sing. It doesn't come naturally.
Why do we have an easy time thinking that a person can learn guitar or piano at any age, but with singing there is an expiration date?
Today, we'll talk about how learning how to sing in voice lessons can be very similar to learning any other instrument: step-by-step.

Sadly I believed that singing is only for natural born gifted people… I really believed that!! I had to reach the age of 38 until I learned better… I’m sad that it took me so long but also glad I finally started having vocal lessons

But you've got to believe it, because even Ed Sheehan doesn't have talent, as he showed on a late late show.

It has taken me almost 2 years of working on my voice to get to the point where I think it's ok. I practiced every single day for months using videos and a singing app, then I got sick with pneumonia and ended up in the hospital for almost a week. I ended up coming home with oxygen supplement and COPD (had covid-19 a few months before that, before I started practicing every day) and all that messed up my schedule and my ability. I have gained back quite a bit of the deep breathing and have gained back the ability to belt (not great) a little, but I still have a long way to go to be comfortable to sing in front of strangers. The way I see it is I'm doing something I love and something that I have always wanted to do. Practicing also helps my lungs. Thank you for all your videos 💜✌🏼

This is awesome. Been thinking about this exact comparison recently as I’m a guitarist taking vocal lessons. Vocal resonance = Guitar tone. A quality note/resonance at the wrong pitch is better than a weak note at the right pitch.

It's so hard to teach people, me and my vocal coach had like a 1 hour discussion on muscle memory. I am working helping my friend trying to find it but it's so complicated to describe the sensation.

I literally learned this in 2020! And I’ve stayed saying to myself and family /friends I just did yesterday to a very nice woman who aaid the typical “I can’t sing…but” I said “if you can talk and you’re NOT TONE DEAF I’m 99% sure you can sing” *I recognize there’s other psychical conditions that sadly may not allow knowing

Got a question. Say I wanted to sing higher and unlock something better. Is it possible to expand my vocal range? I just learnt that I'm a bass-baritone and I honestly believed I was a tenor for years and I'd really like to somehow train myself to become a high baritone. What I'm really asking here is it possible with daily practice with my coach or not?

I don't know if this is good or not but I learnt to sing by mimicking some of my favourite singers. I don't sound like them, I use my own voice but the notes I can hit.

This icks the living fuck out of me😂 some people are gifted/talented in singing and they build from it simple, not a skill like cleaning the house or washing dishes, the delusion must end damn it😂

I've been trying to sing for a decent month now, practicing everyday and all different kinds of techniques and I have zero talent. Its just that its very depressing to know you still cant sing well and see no improvements even after a while i wish i was born with a singing talent would have been sooo much easier

Okay I'm trying to make this comment several times but I'm not trying to come off rude can you please make a video of you singing something anything with your voice because every time I've heard you use it and I've checked out a few videos now for an example in your techniques it doesn't sound like you can

you’re probably going through everything too quickly, i obviously don’t know how advanced of a vocalist you are but if you’re trying to belt after singing Mary had a little lamb that’s a problem. Rest your voice

Well of course you will say that. You make your money by saying that. But unlike a guitar where every guitar is built the same, human beings are not! We have differing physical bodies and abilities. Singing requires specific physicality and abilities. You can teach only at a certain point. But if the person sounds horrible because of their body or cannot hear the notes because they lack the ability, you can teach at a certain point. But they will just be bearable or ok. But some may still be horrible.

I'm that guy. 44 yo, no singing skills or any musical or instrumental experience whatsoever. But I've discovered that half of singing consists of ACTUALLY USING the voice that you do have. Using what you have. And I've also found out that I'm also utterly worthless at remembering the LYRICS of songs - and if you can't remember the lyrics you can't sing!

most people can improve vastly with practice and lessons, but great singers are born with genetics that show up early, and they have less trouble with pitch and resonance which come more naturally and easily. it's similar to young kids who excel at olympic sports like ice skating or gymnastics. everyone can learn but only a few can become great even with the best coaches and the most dedication.

Isn't this the same guy who said Freddy Mercury, Adele and Lady Gaga all sing wrong and was also talking other shit about natural singers like my self who were born with a gifted voice saying that we don't work hard? This guy literally shits on gifted singers and yes some singers are born with GOD given talent. It really seems like he just does this so he can sell more courses...

I 100% disagree with you!! 10,000% !! As a pro musician, I have run into MANY people who are tone deaf, or simply lack ANY sense of rhythm. What you are suggesting is akin to someone being colorblind, and being able to dress smartly! Imagine having NO rhythm, a deep bass voice, and you cannot distinguish between a B and G note? What THEN, Guru? Huh? 🤔🤔🤫🤫🤫🤫😅😅😅

Hey James, I appreciate your opinion but after teaching 1,000 students as a full time singing teacher I don’t agree that many people are tone deaf. Lots of people use the term “tone deaf” when they just haven’t learned to coordinate their voice properly yet. I appreciate your experience, but it’s possible that many of these singers you ran into didn’t have any training or didn’t find a teacher that knew how to coax their best voice out of them. Thanks for watching!
