When you hear “Honda Motor Company”, what comes to mind? Reliability? Safety and simplicity? A company that sells its products to more than 140 countries around the world? How about revolutionary innovation? Today on Past Gas, Honda’s breakthroughs, and how their continued success can be traced back to their singular, eccentric founder: a four-foot eleven-inch visionary named Soichiro Honda.

Speaking of Honda, you should do a podcast on the history of one of the most famous 4 cylinders ever made, the V-TEC! I would love to see the origin story of this iconic 4 banger, and speaking of legendary Honda’s, do a podcast on the Acura NSX, another legendary 90s supercar!

Last import car night I went to I pulled past the line of Hondas in my sw20 MR2, rolled down the window and said "so this is the Ho Mo Co parking area, where is the Toyota area?" They didn't think it was nearly as funny as I did.

Great episode, however you are a little off with the cvcc story. GM's president at the time said Honda's "little toy engine" wouldn't work with a full size us product. Old man Honda heard them call it a toy and had a brand new 1969 caprice 350 delivered to his factory. 3 weeks later it's shipped back to the EPA in Michigan and it passes. He developed a cvcc head for the stock 350 with no cats. IN 3 WEEKS! It also got 18 city and 26 highway!

Many believe in the major key to success is waking up early each an every day. Having a head start before everyone else and being one step ahead at all times and fully prepared, when others are still sleeping you are already awake working.
