Automatic couplers and automatic air brakes - two designs essentially unchanged from the 1800s still in safe and efficient service today. True, the couplers have better steel, and "tight lock" capability on some models, but it is still Janney's design. And the air brakes have faster acting triple valves and they are at long last looking at electricity as a brake activator, but it is still Mr. Westinghouse's design safely slowing and stopping thousands of trains thousands of times a day.

those were odd looking E type couplers. both pins don't need to be pulled in order to uncouple.

Советские СА-3 лучше, они полностью автоматические, у них перед сцепкой не надо зубцы раскрывать, в отличии от этих сцепок. Soviet SA-3s are better, they are fully automatic, they do not need to open the teeth before coupling, unlike these couplings.
