These guys aren't getting this completely straight and need to review their competence. The director of the Secret Service was an agent for decades and then retired and became a corporate security chief. Because Biden knew her from when she protected him many years ago, he asked her to come back to government and take the job. So, no -- she didn't make a career out of guarding chips before taking control of the agency. However, I agree that it appears from the actions of bumbling agents that diversity and equal outcomes" were favored over ability to do the job effectively.

The problem of overcorrection for past discrimination manifests itself in multiple ways. The supposed justification for the overcorrection comes from a common mindset. The mindset of quotas and equality of outcome, rather than equality of opportunity. The mindset of making decisions based on identity and political ideology, rather than based on merit. The mindset that you're on the right side of history if you decide not to appoint a straight, cis, white male.
