It’s crazy how some of the smallest creators post a single video or make a product and big time companies swoop in and purchase it. Side note: I understand that it's not the main company buying the video and that its mainly smaller directors. But the idea of it is still there

I think it’s also different for him since he only makes short films and he’s not really a KZfaqr, KZfaq was just the best platform for him to share his short films. He has more film experience than just making KZfaq videos, and I would say most KZfaqrs operate a lot differently from film or short films

“they tried to take it to festivals but no one was interested” yeah that’s not how 99.9% of festivals work. You just pay to submit your film and they WILL take it. Festivals are a money making opportunity. Films that i was in in college have been screened at festivals because some cost as low as $50. Unless he was submitting to Cannes it makes no sense for the “festivals” to not be “interested”

This is so inspiring! Just scrounge up $45k (everyone’s got that lying around somewhere right?) and my acceptance letter from Harvard, no biggie! And bam, I’ll be connected with one of Hollywood’s elites. In all seriousness guys, this was luck and happenstance. He could’ve worked just as hard any poor person, or less academic student and would have no buzz around his student film. There are so many beautiful and amazing short films on KZfaq, hell, almost indie production teams on KZfaq-why haven’t they got the call? To say they didn’t work hard enough is a slap to the face. It’s a privilege opportunity, and he should be proud. But to be inspired by a right time/right place offer is not our job.

Probably helped that he was able to get/pay someone like David Mazouz to star in it, he was pretty well known when Gotham was airing. Roger Rathburn (also in the film) isn't exactly some random nobody, either.
