How to video to replace the motor mounts on the 2002-2007 WRX/STI. It may fit other years, but these are generally listed as 2002-2007 WRX/STI
Some may need to drop your sway bar if you have an aftermarket larger unit. Otherwise I found it unnecessary to remove the intercooler, and pitch stop mount.
Tools Needed/Recommended:
-Torque wrench
-3/8" and 1/2" ratchets
-10mm socket
-12mm socket
-flat blade screw driver
-14mm sockets 3/8" and 1/2"
-14mm box end wrench (ratcheting helps)
-Pry bar
-Engine hoist /or jack with block of wood
-Jack stands or car ramps
-PB Blaster/penetrating oil
-Propane Torch
-Patience :D
Parts:
-Group N Motor Mount: D1010FE110 Right Side
-Group N Motor Mount: D1010FE120 Left Side
-Engine Mount Plate to Engine: 901120096 X4
-Engine Mount to Crossmember Washer: 903100168 X2
-Engine Mount to Crossmember Nut: 902370028 x2
-Engine Mount to Plate Nut: 023810000 X4
Overall I've done projects that were far worse

doing it as we speak, have the mounts off, thank god. But with no 14 ratcheting wrench I'm shooting myself in the foot. Buy one prior if you don't already have one.

The factory torque spec for mount to crossmember nut is 60 Nm or 44.3 ft lb. That is straight from the factory manual. I think the Internet forums have the specs wrong in this case, it would explain you guys stripping the nuts.
@BuffRANGE
@BuffRANGE Жыл бұрын
That likely is the issue. I noticed even now people will post the Nm torque specs as the ft lb.

This is an excellent tutorial for mounts replacement! I watched it multiple times to get educated on the task. My only critique is when you compared the engine movement towards the end, the camera was slightly waving and you couldn't see the results very well. If you do those clips in the future, the audience would highly benefit from the use of a tripod. Thank you! 🤘

A good tip for lining up the stud when dropping the motor is disconnecting the pitch stop ESPECIALLY if you have an after market one. I had to use a pipe i think against the header and the front frame (not against the Radiator!!!) to move the whole motor back into place. Struggled for an hour because the engine would not move untill i remembered about the pitch stop.

Yeah I got lucky with the pitch stop. I have the Kart Boy.

Bud really good video, Changed the mounts on my BH5 and even if the mounts are different. the video worked for my install. the headache i wad was getting the bolts aligned for lowering the engine. took a few breaks between tries. my install took about 3 hours. but you did make not of the problems that would be faced. guys if you are going to take on this project yourself, please invest in a 14 ratchet spanner. This little tool will cut back on alot of time. i did not have one. after the install went to the store to get a new spanner ratchet kit.

I got the exact same problem with the mount nut 902370028. It is soft like jello and it got all stripped and same way as yours. It doesn't even make sense, it couldn't even stand 40 lb-ft of torque!
@BuffRANGE
@BuffRANGE 9 жыл бұрын
dk nc Did you take it back to your local Subaru dealer and tell them about it? I told mine about it, what they've done with that info, I don't know, but at least they know..
@dknc7393
@dknc7393 9 жыл бұрын
No, I bought it off ebay and it wasn't even advertised as a Impreza part. If you search 902370028, it's under BRZ parts. I figured it's the same, so I bought it, so it's my own "fault". I went to my local dealership and they said it's superseded by 902380007. However, this looks like the one used in exhaust manifold 3 on each side ones. Which is pretty generic nut for a lot of other parts. The flange diameter is smaller than the mount nut. I went on searching and found this: minkara.carview.co.jp/en/userid/595391/car/540775/2957519/7/note.aspx#title Translate it if you need to, but it says the torque is about 50lb-ft (7.0 kg-m) which is still lower then the 62 that we saw online. And the blogger says this bolt can be very easily messed up and take precaution. So maybe we still got the correct part, but just can't torque it down to 62lb-ft anymore? I also found out that my washer is bent. Now I highly doubt if the 62lb-ft torque is correct. However, you reused the old nut with 62lb-ft withou problem? On my driver side, it is quite tight, but maybe not 62. around 50 I think. What happened now is that initially rounded just a tiny bit of the nut, so I want to replace it, however, the new nut 902370028 stripped the bolt a bit and the inside of the nut is also stripped and sticked to the bolt and I think I need to actually get a new mount, might as well go STI. (I have RS.) What a pain! Now I'm not sure if I should use 902370028 (the soft one) or the 902380007 (which could just be any M10x1.25 with a 14mm hex flange nut auto grade, which I still can't find online in any local autopart stores).
@BuffRANGE
@BuffRANGE 9 жыл бұрын
dk nc Interesting. Yeah the stock nuts hit 62ft-lbs with ease.
@TStig39
@TStig39 7 жыл бұрын
dk nc I met the same problem just like you! I stripped the inside of the nut and now the nut just spains but can't be removed from the bottom bolt of engine mount. I guess the only way is to cut it...

would mounts in general wether group n or torque solutions, be useful on an automatic equipped wrx or in my case a 92x aero? I was considering the torque solutions engine mounts just because I feel the automatic cars can use all the help they can get.

It's pretty strong. The 2x4 helps distribute the pressure across the pan. The tires on the car in the video are Michelin X-ice 2. The opening thumbnail are some 2011 WRX rims with Michelin Pilot Super Sports

seems like the only difference in the mounts is the bottom screw.. The perrin mounts have it where you put the screw from the bottom .. So probably the same pain in the ass lining it up with the hole.. thanks again for this video

@nabaddame5726
@nabaddame5726 2 жыл бұрын
@@spoolindsm127 I currently have group n motor mounts, group n trans mount, polyurethane pitch stop, kartboy diff lock down kit, whitline diff carrier polyurethane replacement bushings. The whole drive train should be "solid" but it doesn't feel that way. I Feely sloppy as hell. When the car is not moving I can't get any of those mounts to move so seems like there isn't any play or looseness. When moving especially in traffic like 2nd gear around 2200 rpm with the rpm climbing as I'm picking up speed , it starts to violently rock back and forth. It's like the gas pedal is an off and on switch. No matter how gentle I am with the clutch or gas pedal it's basically off and on.
