This is the first video on how to accurately score and break your glass pieces to ensure a proper fit for your leaded stained glass panel. Spend minimal time at the grinder. Making a leaded stained glass panel especially for the home requires precise steps to ensure the panel will fit into whatever space it will be installed. In this video I briefly describe how I made my printed pattern. I first drew my pattern on Procreate on my iPad. Then transferred that drawing to Adobe Photoshop. I adjusted my drawing so that all of my pattern lines would be 1/16" wide to account for the lead. You can refer to my first video about Cricut patterns to watch and learn that process. After I made my pattern I printed it using Rapid Resizer. Cut off the edges and taped it all together. After this I started by laying out a translucent piece of glass on my pattern and started outlining the pattern piece with a Sharpie. I then scored on inside of my Sharpie line and broke off all the excess glass. To ensure a proper fit I checked it on my pattern to see if I could see all the black outline and if I needed to make any additional adjustments on the grinder. I repeated this same process for opal/opalescent glass. I used my light table to help me see through the glass. The final method I used is for glass that has no visibility or is completely opaque. In this method I used a piece of card stock and traced from my light table and pattern and cut out a pattern piece to trace onto the glass. Then scored and broke it. There is a time and place to use the Cricut vinyl method for stained glass and this was not the time. There is about 70 pieces in this panel and it would take much longer to stick every single piece of vinyl on the glass rather than sticking to this traditional method that is also very accurate and a time saver. The Cricut method is great for very intricate and detailed works that will have a lot more time spent at the grinder or saw. You must take in account the amount of time you spend at the grinder when trying to make stained glass for profit. If you don't practice accurately scoring and breaking your glass pieces you will be spending too much time at the grinder. Making your work more expensive than it needs to be. Excellence is what makes a piece of artwork valuable. When you create with excellence and show your talent and skill as an artist then you become more valuable to your customer. Hence be able to charge your worth as an artist and not a hobbyist. This part of the process is so crucial. This needs to be the part that you really get it right. It will stop you from taking any backwards steps when you start building your panel. Leading goes fast, for the most part. But having your glass right is so crucial to keeping your panel from growing when you start building it. Especially when it needs to be particular measurements.
