I taught school for over 30 years ,including teachers and you are an excellent teacher. And on top of that you are filming. I have taken several classes and I learned more about lead construction from you then all the others put together. I have always done copper foil but wanted to become proficient at working with lead. Thank you so much for your excellent instruction. 😊

I love building lead panels! I’ve been doing some foil projects lately and watching you has me anxious to get back to it. I have a transom window I’m working on next.

Am embarking on making my first stained glass lead panel and live in a country where there is very little stained glass & zero stained glass suppliers. After hours searching KZfaq tutorials - especially making lead panels, I found your videos which are brilliant, and just the info I needed to be able to make a start on the project working on my own.

Thank you!!! I'm so glad you are making these. I've made one leaded piece with assistance from a teacher. I stick to copper foil, but have been wanting to make more leaded pieces and this was an amazing refresher course! Can't wait to see your cementing and finishing video. I'm at a total loss at that step!

Absolutely!! Thank you for the kind words. Im so glad it helped. It did take me a bit to get the hang of leading but once I did, i never touched foil again. Haha.

I'm just starting out and this is the style of stained glass I want to do. I have some foiled panels that need repairing and so my plan was to start with copper foil, but I haven't felt really jazzed about it. I love the look of leaded glass and your videos have helped me realize that this is really where my heart is. Great video! THANK YOU!

You are so welcome! Learning both techniques is great and will definitely help you advance as an artist. I started out using copper foil and i loved it. Either technique is great to start with! I definitely recommend learning both. But start where you want 😊

Thank you for the tips on leading a glass circle. I am in the process of making a panel with a similar flower in the middle and debating whether to use lead came or copper foil.

2:44 mark- I am new to stained glass but I am a woodworker question: why wouldn’t you put the whole row together with your spacers then use a aluminum angle up against it and use that as a straight edge and do a side the same way then move the glass and check it with a square to check the squareness? It seems it would be a lot quicker instead of doing every single piece? Where did you get that pattern? I would like to try this. Great video thank you for sharing. 😊

Great question! When I originally created this video I was still pretty new and learning and I actually use aluminum angle now for my edges. And it’s a game changer. Hopefully one day I will be able to create an updated tutorial on how I create windows now. Its so much easier and faster. Glad you found the video helpful!

That’s an interesting way to build. I’m wondering why you wouldn’t lay your frame down in a 90 degree (left side and bottom) to start building?
@KCGlassworks
@KCGlassworks 4 ай бұрын
I did not like using one at the time but now I use one consistently and I actually don’t use a square. I use angle iron.

That is really nice and great explanation, do I have to grind glass pieces with lead came method?
@KCGlassworks
@KCGlassworks Жыл бұрын
You definitely do not need to grind glass when using lead came. You do however need to score and break your pattern pieces very accurately in order for them to fit properly.

Beautiful piece, excellent job! One question, how in the world do you make such perfect bends in your lead? It looks like a machine did it! Thank you 😊
@KCGlassworks
@KCGlassworks Жыл бұрын
It definitely took practice to really get it right! Lots of bending back and forth.

Thanks for your video. You make it look so easy lol. May I ask what kind of nippers you are using? I was using the knife and crushing my lead. Also I use rounded lead came, but I really like yours. Would you mind sharing the size and type of lead. Thank you.

Hi Sylvie! Watch part 1 as well. Here is the link. kzfaq.info/get/bejne/pc6bpdSq2tvNqXk.html I also use round came, the nippers are Fan Out Lead Nippers. The came is 1/4” flat H Thanks for watching!
