Thank you so much for this video. I was a push and shove cutter, but not anymore. I am getting closer and better cuts using the press and glide technique. Also, I am not wasting glass. Again, thanks so much for sharing. You rock!

Absolutely! Too many people destroy the glass with their score. I find what really matters is good, consistent pressure throughout the score.

This looks great - I am really interested in beginning stained glass work and I have a cricut....... win, win! A suggestion - if you invert the origional image and then use "select by colour range" the first part of the process is much quicker. However if you do want to use the magic wand turn on Caps lock and you cursor turns into a cross hair making it much easier to select small areas. Great video!

2:44 mark- I am new to stained glass but I am a woodworker question: why wouldn’t you put the whole row together with your spacers then use a aluminum angle up against it and use that as a straight edge and do a side the same way then move the glass and check it with a square to check the squareness? It seems it would be a lot quicker instead of doing every single piece? Where did you get that pattern? I would like to try this. Great video thank you for sharing. 😊
@KCGlassworksАй бұрын
Great question! When I originally created this video I was still pretty new and learning and I actually use aluminum angle now for my edges. And it’s a game changer. Hopefully one day I will be able to create an updated tutorial on how I create windows now. Its so much easier and faster. Glad you found the video helpful!

There is only one glass cutter to use if you do not want to lose a lot of glass and that is the Toyo. The reason is the cutting wheel. I talked with the inventor of the Toyo cutter before he died and know what it is. It is a metal matrix such as modern cutting tools are made from. It is super hard and precisely sharpened. The pistol grip is the only one to buy as with my modifications is it a one hand precise glass cutter without having to hold the cutter as you are doing as there is no other control unless you do this. What I do is loosen the screw, take off the head, remove the spring, replace the head, push it all the way up without the spring, turn the head 180 degrees from stock so that the screw does not hit the cut out in the head retainer for the screw. Tighten the screw with the head all the way up so that it does not turn. Now you have a real cutter that is precise. To oil the cutter head take a bottle cap, put some paper towel in it, then soak with WD40, now every few cuts just dip the cutter into the WD40 paper towel and continue. A Toyo head on my glass cutting machines would last over 40,000 pieces of glass at 3-4 cuts/piece. They last. For breaking glass use either a Diamantor glass cutter breaker as they are parallel, or, my favorite are crescent wrenches from large to the smallest for deep inside cuts. The reason crescent wrenches work and glass pliars are destroyers of glass is very simple. With glass pliars when the glass does not immediately break on the cut line you cannot help yourself from squeezing the pliars. This blows the glass apart. With crescent wrenches you can adjust to the thickness of the glass precisely and when bending to break the glass it never squeezes but applies the pressure always to only the score line. After you blow up some super expensive drapery glass and unobtainium old Uroboros and/or Oceana you learn what to do. I come from the aerospace world. Just because people used glass pliars for a long time does not mean they are the best way to do it. Try crescent wrenches and save time and money. If in business this could be the difference between making money or going out of business.

So when you remove the spring, does it prevent the head from swiveling?
@maironalvialАй бұрын
Is possible cement stained glass made with copper foil technique? or how can you reinforce those? Thanks :D

No need to cement foil. You can use Re-Strip to reinforce foil or steel rebar.

I’m having a hard time cutting textured glass (having really had good results - as in clean cuts working with plain window glass as a trial learning curve). I can’t believe how all of a sudden i can’t cut glass! I figured out it must be that because my material is different, my cutting technique is different, and I’m often breaking the glass rendering it an unusable piece. Does anyone have any advice for a newcomer to stained glass? I have a Toyo cutter, but maybe i should get better running pliers ((upgrade from my plastic ones) or is it just lack of cutting experience?

Am embarking on making my first stained glass lead panel and live in a country where there is very little stained glass & zero stained glass suppliers. After hours searching KZfaq tutorials - especially making lead panels, I found your videos which are brilliant, and just the info I needed to be able to make a start on the project working on my own.

first of all- thank you thank you thank you for posting this- it was incredibly helpful and pretty easy to follow. I am just curious if you or any of your viewers can speak to why you might use procreate if you're already using photoshop. I started up with Procreate- new to it. And kinda figured it was going to be all I needed. But then nearly every video I see, folks are transferring the Procreate file to another graphic design software. Why use procreate in the first place? Should I just be using Photoshop? I'm so confused about this extra step!
@KCGlassworks2 ай бұрын
I like to hand draw which is why I use Procreate. Some people don’t mind drawing on photoshop or adobe illustrator. I’ve never liked it. You have to use photoshop in order to get the correct line width for the spacing between your pattern pieces for cricut. It’s not an extra step, it is a necessary one.

I remember cutting glass once. Not free hand like this, in a device made for it. And here is the thing. To be able to cut glass you have to be gifted the ability at birth, cuz when a normal person like me or you does it, we will make the exact same movent as this guy and it shatters into a million pieces. But all jokes aside cutting glass is rly hard.

Definitely! You may just have to do a little adjusting with your line width by doing multiple prints since you can't measure line width on procreate.
