My frogs like to sneak up on my betta when he's asleep then smack him and dart off. Then sometimes my betta will drop a #2 on the frogs dinner plate to get even. I think its good mental stimulation for all parties involved.

All four of my bettas have very different personalities and traits. Lestat is usually very lazy and lays in his hide most of the day, so I don't rearrange his tank at all since he likes it like that. He's also my biggest mama's boy and always says hi to me when I turn his light on in the morning. Zen doesn't tend to hide in one particular spot, so he gets lots of hides and decorations. He also loves his betta hammock leaf. Jaws is my newest addition and I believe he has a swim bladder problem as he has never gone to the bottom of his tank, so I give him the option of having his decorations and hides, but for the most part he just hides behind his filter by the heater. Finally, Galaxy just got a new tank (I had him in a tank that turned out to have a fish killing filter after my mom and I had the same experience with our bettas being sucked into it. The tank was not compatible with other filters because of how it was designed). He is so happy to have his tank mixed up so I will be arranging it with every deep clean to keep him stimulated being the busy little fish he is. Additionally, Lestat and Galaxy's tanks are pressed right up against each other on my dresser so I keep a piece of paper between them, making their exercising easy as all's I have to do is remove the paper and let them flare at each other for a very short time. Love the content! You've actually taught me a few things to improve my betta tanks in previous videos. I'd have more, but I have officially run out of power outlets in my space for them. Lol.

You are absolutely correct about the need to provide some mental 'enrichment' for tank occupants who otherwise have only four glass walls to look at. It's what drives me absolutely crazy when I see Oscars simply treading water day after day just so their owners can watch them gulp another fish twice a week. Too big, too boring, not an aquatic environment at all - more like a barnyard pen. I've always tried to landscape the tank to be visually interesting and mysterious for me, which also gives the fish something to explore and interact with.

Thank you for this! I have a half grown betta. First bette I have ever had. She's in a tank with some very mature/older furcata rainbows. One morning i got up and turned the light on and the betta had something white and a little over an inch long hanging out of her mouth. I was startled and i thought she developed some sort of cottony fungus overnight. Nope! Apparently, one of my furcatas died of natural causes and she either helped to devour the carcass and/or found the skeleton. She was carrying it around! I didn't realize what she had in her mouth until I netted her, and believe me, she didn't let go of the skeleton. It was easy to net her. Her name is now Savage! She was still hanging on to that perfect furcata skeleton after I netted her. She's going to be a terror. Ha! I have a population of cherry shrimp in the tank, too. She will likely hunt the babies, but I don't know if she's fast enough to catch them. She's already interested in the adults, but they are too large for her to capture. She's been busy exploring the tank all day every day and i saw her eat a baby snail one morning, as well. I think I have it covered for the Savage. She's a real trip. I might get her a mirror one of these days to see if she may want to look at herself once in a while. Take care Irene. I enjoy your videos.

I've had the log and the leaf betta hammock, my betta hated them. But I've done a lot of work with stick training and tank mates. The stick training is also good for if you need to remove the betta from the tank because I can get my betta to calmly swim right into the betta cup I bought her in when I need to do heavy tank work or if she's sick.

My betta fish would always swim in circles around the 5 Gallon I had her in, I assumed she was bored and got her a 20 gallon long aquarium with 6 kuhli loaches and live plants.🌱 Now she swims in and out of plants and rock formations, and on occasion chases or steels food from her tank mates. I can never know for sure, but to me she seems more happy and active in her new aquarium.

This is a beautiful living space for your Betta! And your Betta is beautiful as well! I wanted to entertain my Betta as well so far the only thing I have done (I plan on doing more things) is put a mason jar inside his 5 gallon tank and put pebble rocks inside and when I add the water in a lot of air stays at the top so he loves to go in there and hang out for however long he wants. When I add water to refresh the tank I make sure air bubbles make their way into his mason jar to give more fresh air. And other dedorations too that can hold air our Bettas love to hang out. I subscribed I loved the video! Thanks for sharing! Oh a question! I have been avoiding buying decorations because they can potentially be toxic. Do you have any tips for how to make store decorations safe? I was thinking to soak them for a week or so in tap water and keep changing out the water until it doesnt smell toxic. Do you know of anything to help with this? I just want me fish to be happy and safe so I been playing it safe for them. Both my Bettas are happy and healthy and only live in Ozarka Natural Spring Water.🙏🏻🌊🐠

Another good food for fish and most can't resist them are just plain earth or leaf worms. Put them in some water for a few days and they will clean all the dirt out inside them. You will be able to see their clean inside. For smaller fish you can cut them in pieces. Big fish can be fed dew worms. House flies are good to. And there both free !

My first betta died in just 2 years in a 54 liter (14 gallon) planted tank, even though I kept the water parameters pristine, and fed him like three different food items on a schedule. The only thing he didn't have is tankmates, so unless he didn't die of natural causes that should've been a very important thing to address.

Didn’t realize biting on its own tail was something a betta would do out of boredom. I’ve been trying to look for resting spots (caves, leaf shelves, etc.) for my betta, and some fast schooling fish he could chase around harmlessly. He’s a *very* pretty blue mustard half moon, and I’d hate to see his amazing tailfin all nibbled to shreds. He spends some time harassing snails and chasing the cory cats, but I’m worried there aren’t enough to totally diffuse the aggression.

I used a dry erase marker to try to play tic tac toe on the out side glass of my betta's tank, he wasn't getting the rules of the game, he kept bopping his nose on the squares were I had already put my mark on there

I am sorry but some people are limitating the hobby and the fish. I have a 200 liter aquarium with only Bettas. They are mostly from the same spawn but they have enough room to have a perfect life without nipping or damiging eachother. It's about space and lots of plants and places to hide and they will live happily together.

Hi! Super late comment but the SpongeBob pineapple cave is super easy to find at shops like Petco, Pets mart, Walmart, Target, etc. Practically anywhere with a fish decor aisle/section should carry SpongeBob decor like the pineapple house and even Squidward's carved head house

I have a rosetail betta that bites his fins. They way him down so much that he would just sit on the bottom of the tank and not even go up for air very often. As soon as he started fin nipping he got so much happier and active! Though I don't like his shredded fins much, I'm glad he's happy now. :)

The ONLY tankmate my betta will allow is a snail I've had a while that's bigger than he is, I tried shrimp and he ATE. THEM. He ate his friends. No more shrimp allowed in the tank

My betta fish murdered everything I put in with it. Ember tetra, cherry shrimp and otocinclus were all stalked to death. The only thing he can live with are nerite snails as he doesn't notice them

Oh no, I'm so sorry to hear that! Yes, I had to move my betta out of the community tank because he kept chasing the platies, but thankfully he was too slow to catch any of them.
