Great tutorial! Im in this process right know on my spec c heads. Just be sure to mesure your old valve lifter with a calibrated micrometer or a tool like you use. With time they thin out especialy on ej20. You can notice the wear pattern if you look closely!

Thank you for the great information. I've got a head to check on the engine I'm rebuilding this summer. I've rebuilt engines before, but this is my first Subaru. So your videos help me a lot.

I am in the process of my EJ20 engine building. If you do not mind i would to ask you a question about measuring valve gap or lash. Some says heads must be bolted and torqued on the block in order to do valve gap work. Is it necessary? I am asking your opinion, because, I did valve clearance work on the desk like you and i am going to order new valve buckets. But some subie forums they say you need to do it heads on the block. That is bugging me. Thank you and keep posting videos.

What was your result because I'm of the opinion valve gap adjustment is more accurate when the head is bolted to the block since the head will tweak slightly.

Good job! I tried to adjust valve clearance on removed from cylinder block heads. The measuring is different if heads would be tightened on cylinder block. I guess it is not new for you )

Thanks for the informative videos!! I have a question; I have a build that’s been sitting and I did not write my bucket position on paper and the marker I used on the bucket faded. What’s the best approach? After watching it looks like I can find the best fit before torquing down the caps since the camshaft will like spin smoothly if the clearance is near spec and then I can torque and measure and move the buckets as needed? Good thing is I have the buckets segregated by cylinder head.

Hello good morning. What kind of car does this engine belong to? For example: impreza sti year my2004 blobeye spec C... Engine: ej207 twinscroll... Cylinder heads: cylinder head numbering Reference camshafts if possible. He put 0.35mm on the exhaust. Do you have a document that specifies it? Greetings and thank you

Mach weiter so!

So do you measure valve clearance with the heads off the block? Or with them on the block? I was under the impression the head needed to be torqued down in order to make a good measurement. Thanks for your excellent videos and shop work!
@Tobi08150
@Tobi08150 2 жыл бұрын
You can leave the heads on the Block but if you already have them off it's a great idea to adjust the valves because its just easyer to work on them.

@broesele1981
@broesele1981 2 жыл бұрын

There is an opinion that the gaps should be set on the head screwed to the block, they will change from the pull. Interested in your opinion on this.
@sgt-willkillu
@sgt-willkillu 5 жыл бұрын
@Derspiwak..., I'm sure you meant to say bolted to block with the Timing belt on? It's the belt that can make a VERY SLIGHT difference, Usually not that much to worry about unless your super fussy. LoL
@zukobringas5096
@zukobringas5096 2 жыл бұрын
Torque the head to the block and connect a pressure rig to the oil system to pressurize it to approx. 80 psi to simulate engine running. This will center the cams and fill the journal to bearing clearances correctly to give you the most accurate valve lash adjustments ever, if you’re that fussy.
@Derspiwak
@Derspiwak 2 жыл бұрын
@@zukobringas5096 I'm not that finicky)) I'm just curious, because a familiar motor assembler said that if you first set the gaps on the removed head, and then screw it to the block, then the gaps will change due to mechanical deformation of the head, so I want to find out if this is true or fantasy.

Can you tell me, it is possible to regulate a valve clearance without remove an engine? In sticker under the hood we can read something like this: forum.subaru.pl/uploads/monthly_2019_02/20190202_204221.jpg.4b3e06e5623c474ec5b84af9f2fa09e1.jpg So my second question is, we check te valve clearance on cold or hot - normaln engine temperature ?
@benrodeheaver701
@benrodeheaver701 3 жыл бұрын
Yes possible. If you have buckets (shims) you buy the correct number to give proper clearance to which ones that need it. If money is low use Dremel tool to grind the button on underside of bucket if too tight. Hopes that helps.
