How to approach a new patient with borderline personality disorder
I take a very active approach, that makes the patient feel like a partner in the process. I like to explain the diagnosis and work together to understand how it impacts their daily life. We identify goals of care and start making plans for how to achieve those goals. These include work goals, development of stable friendships, and hobbies. Having a life outside of being a patient is the overall goal.
