I’ll tell you the reasons and how to minimize the battery drain with a quick and simple way that will increase the time that the car can be parked without having to charge the battery.
The last video discussed opening a locked boot when the remote or dash button didn’t activate.
This would not have happened if the battery on the car had not been depleted.
There are many sensors that stay active after the car is parked even when it is locked.
You may not know but there are two levels of lock provided by the remote fob.

The biggest battery drain is the reachable batteries in the alarm siren that are so old they never fully charge and constantly discharge them selves. best bet is to either replace the batteries or just disconnect the siren. its under the right hand side front wing. Also have to say putting the hand brake on is a bad idea if you are putting cars into storage, they can rust/seize on and it will do absolutely nothing for your battery. great channel and thank you so SO much for taking the time to make the channel.

Really appreciate your adding to the comments. I see your reasoning about the handbrake when putting into storage. Th's not a thing we think about in Oz as the weather is OK all year. Interesting about the batteries in the alarm siren. I'll look into that for sure. What does it look like/ is there a photo. I'll look in the manual anyway. You sound like yo own an x100.

Great video. For my xkr, I noticed sometimes the glove box light is not turned off when closed and not noticeable hence was draining my battery on a regular basis. Good to see another xk8/xkr in Sydney.

Thanks for commenting - where is Sydney - what color. I take your point about the glove box light. Mine used to sty on until i readjusted the switch button. However I would have thought the secondary lock would disable that.

Thanks for that little tip about the XK8 battery. I have an 04' Coupe (down under) that doesn't get used too often and only last month I bought a new battery as too many sensor lights started coming on. Will have to try the double locking system to see if that helps, otherwise I will just have to drive it more often, which is always a nice thing to do. Cheers.

If you don’t drive too often, think about a trickle charger or if you don’t have power, a jump starter. I’ve got videos on both of those. I make a habit of going out at least once per fortnight for about 20 minutes. It’s not just about the battery. You need to get the fluids circulating. Even the aircon. I’m in Sydney. Where about in Oz are you?

@@jaguarXK-XKR Ah, I'm down near Canberra, across the railway tracks from Queanbeyan in a small heritage Estate. Only had the XK8 for 2 years or so. Still finding out all the tricks. It's my retirement car with only 130,000 ks on it.

@@jimcottee9187 Country estate - sounds good in the these testing times. Plus you get lot's good roads with little traffic and no traffic lights. Heaven. I'm just a year into the XX8 and a retirement (mid life crisis) 90K

Is this also the case with the X150? My 2007 XK has been through many batteries!

Yes I can speak from experience, the x150 drains batteries just as fast as XK8.The main thing is to double lock. The single lock leaves interior alarm sensors active.

my xk8 does not double lock, it locks once, but re clicking it does not flash the lights nor make a sound. no idea why

Perhaps replace the battery . Are you pressing the lock button hard. It needs to be done almost immediately after the first press.

What's the trick to clearing all the error notifications after the battery change?

You will need a OB2 reader to be able to clear codes.

I own a 97 XK8 convertible but I've never had the battery drain so bad that the car couldn't start.

That's good - I guess you get to drive it reasonably often to keep the battery up to scratch. We are not all so lucky

I have a 98 XJR, this too drains the battery. My solution was to disconnect the battery.

I had a Maserati Indy in 1970s that drained the battery overnight - disconnecting was my only solution. It was easy nothing to reset. But the XK8 requires you to reset the windows and put in the radio code whenever the battery is disconnected - to much trouble for me
