Just a smallish correction: Jenn isn't giving offerings to the Sea Beast, she's trying to figure out what it looks like. She only sees it shadowy figure from a super far distance with the flare, she hides in the log later to protect herself but never actually sees it. Hence she goes to the beach and sets the shark as bait to try see what she's dealing with, which is why she watches from close by. First night she falls asleep and misses it, so she has to try again.

What's also very important is the fact that the creature can watch you from under the water without you being able to easily see it, because of the water. You should act under the assumption that it's always watching and dip into the forest occasionally to break line of sight. No sense in making a trap or hiding if the creature watches you do it.

When she was hanging up the shark and body, I actually hadn't connected that it was her making a sacrifice. I thought she was using them to try and get more information on the creature. Since she was watching it the whole night, I figured she was trying to get a better idea of exactly what she was up against. Thinking about it though, I think it was a mixture of both. I would have gone with this fantastic strategy called "Don't set up your camp next to the big gaping doom-hole that the terrifying shark man comes out of to murder stuff." Seriously, why didn't she go all the way to the opposite side of the island after the first encounter? Or if it could pop up anywhere, go to like, the exact middle of the island with denser forests. Being safe from the murder-creature is more valuable than the energy you have to expend walking to the beach each morning.

Personally, I would suggest never, ever saying that you're being hunted by a sea monster. Be nonspecific, but useful. Say that there's some predator on the island, that you've been hiding and stringing stuff up, but you've been too scared to actually look at it. Get them to hide, and then when THEY see it's a sea monster, you're not the crazy sea monster person, you gave them a useful tip. I mean, are they that unlikely to believe you that, like, there's a population of big cats or something?
@Yeovelyn

Yes, I agree. Plus the friends had been stranded in the middle of the ocean without being bothered by any “sea” creature, so they would less likely to believe that there was a sea creature *on an island* Instead, they would blame loneliness, grief, and heavy stress for her nonsensical “hallucination”

@@feathero3 if you're a fan of Westerns and Horror, I absolutely, 100%, without a shred of doubt recommend you watch Bone Tomahawk!! Stars Kurt Russell, Patrick Wilson, Richard Jenkins, and Matthew Fox as the 4 main characters. Their little posse is after a small "tribe" of BIG-ass, hulking, scary-ass, cannibalistic Troglodytes who abducted some people from their town! It is a relatively long (at 2hr12min runtime) and slow-burning film but, I PROMISE, if you stick with it, you will NOT be disappointed! The classic "rescue mission" story obviously isn't a new concept but it's done in a very unique way! The characters are SMART and make good decisions. There's an unbearable tension/feeling of dread over the whole film and when s**t finally hits the fan... It's horrifying! Great acting, great cinematography, and incredible, PRACTICAL effects that will stick with you for LIFE! Aslo... If you're going to watch Bone Tomahawk, DO NOT read up about! Go in as "cold" as you can! Disclaimer: it's also not for the squeamish or feint of heart! It's definitely NOT loaded with gratuitous, shock-value, torture-porn but it's got a few absolutely horrific moments

It might be harder but you could still, possibly make it. Water would be harder to source but if you go inland you might be able to find a source of fresh water, admittedly you'd need to sterilize it before drinking but you'd still be able to drink it. Also if coconuts grow there, you got a decent chance of other similar conditions fruits like mango and such. You could also find roots, tubers, edible vegetation or even fungi if you know what you were looking for, though that's unlikely. We also see no sign of what inland wildlife there was before the girl burned the play to the ground, there could be snakes or even small mammals like rats or the like. Not to mention the birds and, if you wanted to stay by the coast, the fish. A coconut allergy would make getting water harder sure, but no impossible, and it wouldn't really effect you from a finding food standpoint.

Personally, having very few skills for long term survival alone on an island, if I could get to the point of catching sharks to use as bait, I'd catch a few to be safe and wait in a open brightly lit area for the creature to come and give it the sharks myself so it can see I'm willing to feed it, maybe some cooked fish too to see if I can get it addicted to something only I can provide. Establish a friendly relationship with a potentially intelligent creature, or die like I probably was going to anyway.

If you can get to to like cooked food and build a potentially mutually beneficial relationship then you might not even need to be the one who does the catching, since it can catch prey WAY easier then you. However, seeing the pictures of it following the family and the dead bodies, as well as what happened to the buried dead guy, we know it likes people meet. What we don't know is if that's a preference of if it's simply a creature that eats whatever it can get hold of most easily since it did seem to just eat what was left for it when honestly human girl (I've already forgotten her name) would be a bigger meal. Maybe it's not actually a full time predator, but more of an opportunist and it only took to hunting the humans because we lack SO MANY natural defences that most prey species have. It means looking at humans, we're easy pickings if the fish man isn't intelligent. Unfortunately there is too many variables. To test this, when the dead guy washed up, it might have actually been good to put him up and a shark, see when presented with two options, which one it more naturally gravitates too and if it leaves once full or if it just eats everything it can. If it eats its full then leaves, after a few nights watching it do this, if we assume we can convince it we're friendly like you were saying, the safest time to come up to it would be after it's eaten, still present the food, but also keep your weapon ready, let it know that its got a choice, food or pain. Now all this goes out the window if, when presented with choice of shark or human, it prefers human because it's going to eat you but it's an option if the creature has some rudimental intelligence and is able to grasp the idea of not eating you and you feed it. And no, it doing this in the movie is not proof. As I said, it could simply be eating the easiest to claim meal rather then wasting it's energy hunting something it might not find that night. The easy meal is something a lot of animals prefer. It eating and leaving could simply be it eating its fill and therefore not needing to expending energy hunting the girl and so going back to it's home to do whatever it does there, spawning maybe? I dunno. The movie doesn't make it clear the level of intelligence this creature has, I'd probably say it's on the more animal side since it attacked the log when the girl hid there and didn't seem to understand it could just go into the opening to grab her and when hunting it, it didn't try to trick her or trap her, it just chased her down.

YO NERD! useful survival tip in a situation like this. With the fish, since she had limited items to catch rain water. Another useful way to have preserved the fish at least for about a month maybe two, instead of using the cooler. She could’ve used the tent material and sticks to fashion a smoker set up. Then hung the fish inside the set up, and started a small fire to smoke the fish. By doing this, it would’ve preserved the fish for at least a month, maybe two if she was lucky. Just something for future videos on scenarios like this. 😁😉👍

Making fire is actually really hard. Getting one on day one or even day three is most likely not possible. I went to the woods a few times to try and make a fire with nothing but a knife and I can tell you that making a bowdrill is not easy. It just isn’t. The concept is simple, the process sounds simple but there are a thousand little things that make the process real hard in practice if you don’t have experience. In survival there is a rule of 3. 3 hours without shelter. 3 days without water. 3 weeks without food. Fire is not a priority right away. Certainly not before you mapped the entire island and all its resources.

Id point out that a fire is critical on an island as they tend to get very cold at night. You could effectively get sick from being too cold and die that way. Better idea: the trap for the final showdown; If the trap was close to the water, the creature might've taken a chance to jump over the fire and retreat into the reef, so what we should do is clear out a large area during the day further away from the water, so that way we don't end up burning our supplies, and we will be literally making the battle field, and make sure to rig up some form of bait, and traps that activate for the monster, so we can lure it more inland into our trap

Let's be honest... I'd probably have done half the dumb stuff she did and to make up for the half i missed i'd probably wind up doing other dumb things. However, yes... once we know we can feed it and it'll just go over and eat... I mean a pit fall trap full of spikes isn't a terrible idea, especially if you can make a few long spears to poke it with once it's fallen in. We just have to make sure that it won't be able to hit us while we're poking it. As soon as i know there's a monster out here I feel like the dead would be willing to forgive some grave desecration as i'm definitely making those long spears' tips out of bone, probably a bone knife or two too. If I can't kill it then I wanna hurt it enough that it knows not to come back. I figure prep for a few days, give it its regular offerings, cover the ground under the offerings with palm fronds and forest debris so it doesn't become suspicious (if it's that smart) when there's suddenly this stuff under it later after i've made the pit. If I'm afraid to poke it due to a fear it might be able to pull me down or something... maybe just fill the death pit with spikes and more leaf debris so i can toss a torch down and burn it to death. If, like the main character, I've already been backhanded through the air then i know it's very strong and might be able to climb out or jump out very quickly, so having plans to hit it as fast as possible are probably for the best.

1.Make a habit of the monster: Hang tribute every day and light a fire nearby and watch it if coming from one direction 2 Make trap: Prepare a lot of wood and make about 8 wooden stakes and dig a hole below the place where the tribute will be hung, put the stakes in the hole and camouflage the hole 3.Prepare for the encounter: when it's getting dark, leave a pile of wood and stones near the place where the tribute is hanging and light a fire nearby 4.Wait for the monster to fall into the trap 5.Attack: After it fell into the trap (it must have been hit by 3 4 stakes by then) then run out and use all your strength to throw all the rocks into the hole and push the pile of wood into the hole and finally push the fire in there

@@rasheemthebestfirstone3274 A bag of supplies and/or gear you have ready to go if things go wrong. Be that natural disaster, domestic attack, or any other event where you gotta get out of dodge. It’s like a day bag for the worst case scenario.

Set a damn signal fire day one. Don’t have to rely on flares as often and it’s is constantly there, regardless of sleep or not.

The first moment I saw a beast like that on a isolated island, I would be making traps and weapons faster than it could breath. Up to 3 or 4 days would be enough of work, feeding myself and planning. That bastard shark creature wouldn't last long. And yet, I would eat its heart out of spite.

As always, since I haven’t previously been in the same position as the main character of this movie nor have I ever been in any real survival situation, I do not know exactly how I would react in the same situation. However, I feel as though this sea creature is a much easier enemy to defeat than many other creatures/monsters from other films are. Yes, the setting of being stuck on a deserted island is an already extremely difficult situation to face on its own. But if one can handle that situation, this one sea creature shouldn’t be too difficult to take care of if executed wisely.

I think it's common knowledge not to pull out objects in your body but in the shock of the moment the reason function in our brain is gone.

The sea beast may also use the same sort of breathing mechanism as a mudskipper, wherein it has pockets of water surrounding its gills which it gulps air to dissolve oxygen into.

You can pass a long thin rock or even branch into the indentations on the side of the coconut that look like the holes of a bowling ball, when you are done you can plug the hole with the same rock and save it for later.

Shark is amazingly tasty. She should have cooked a few filets, found some fermented cocanut water and invited him over to dinner. Thats how me and Nessy became friends. Although she stays in the bathtub for hours and doesnt clean the drain.

Im suprised that her explanation is a sea monster, If she said that canninbals come out and hunt at night they would had believed her, show them brad's mauled corpse for good measure, They'll not only see that it's be mauled and whatnot but they'll also believe the explanation and cooperate with us in defending against the oversized guppy, also she had the opportunity to fashion a stone spear on day 1 or 2 might have been better than the wooden one.

If I heard my friend ranting about a sea monster in a situation like that I'd just assume they went crazy from isolation, too much sun, getting hit in the head with a rock, etc.

Imagine being stranded on an island for months, just to figure out there was a resort on the other side, then everyone there thinks you're an idiot for being stuck for so long.

I feel traps would be the best way to go. Like you said with the tiger pit and pongee sticks (however you spell that), I’d also try to fashion a rake of pikes that could quickly be raised when the beast changes you, essentially pulling a Braveheart on the amphibious cavalry of one. I’d also try to fashion several kinds of spike traps that could be strung up in the trees, then wait in the trees for him to come and start playing tropical tree kerplunk. Going toe to toe with him would be an absolute last resort.

Only addition I would make would be to make the spear heads able to break off in addition of coating them in toxic substances. It means when you stab it, the head stays in and every time it moves the lodge object will inflict more damage and pain.

the shark teeth would make an excellent double sided sawtoothed club but i dont think she has the upper body strength to maul the creature with it. once the teeth break or fall out of one side you use the other. those teeth are razor sharp and a good swing would severely injure most human sized creatures.
