As a Texan, everybody down here (even children) knows that that sort of environment is snake city, and wouldn't go walking out there in anything less than thick denim and boots. Also, the snake's behavior was very odd. They usually are resting during the hottest hours of the day, and they hardly ever make a defensive strike without giving plenty of warning with their rattle. I've ran into one while hiking, just a sleepy little guy chilling in the shade :)

If she’s just been bitten by a rattlesnake and is already in the hospital there’s no reason to go along with the deal. Say no, the daughter goes back to the state she was in before treatment, they give her some antivenom and everything is fine!
@masonrieber8674
@masonrieber8674 2 жыл бұрын
the only logical conclusion I came up with is that for an adult it would take 2 - 3 days but due to her size as mentioned if you half that (maybe even use some movie magic to say she received a higher amount than usual) that takes her time down to less than a day. So while she was healthy the whole time in the hospital if she doesn't go through with it she gets reverted to as if she had been laying there for the whole day in which case she is almost at the fatal point and may not be able to be treated at that point. On a side note, its a bit steep of a price so you would have to assume this entity "knew" the outcome if she didnt receive help. Although, asking to take out a serial killer to save an innocent persons life really is about as good as it gets for paranormal payment.

Helpful hints for rattlesnake encounters: The golden rule is DON'T APPROACH THE SNAKE, EVER. The best way to not get bit is to avoid it if at all possible. Don't fight it, don't kill it, don't poke it, DON'T APPROACH IT. Dry bites are a thing for all rattlers, the myth about babies releasing more venom or more readily is false but don't gamble on a dry bite for your safety. REMEMBER, the cost of treatment can be up to $100,000 and more due to hospital treatment price inflation! If you can't pay that much, LEAVE THE SNAKE BE. It costs money to train your dog to avoid rattlesnakes, but IT IS WORTH IT. Wear long pants in the desert. It's more difficult for their strikes to reach you due to: reduced heat giving away your legs, a larger target than your legs increasing the chance of missing, and even the slightest bit of armor (doesn't stop the penetration, but it can snag the fangs making it harder to get a full bite). Thick tall boots (yes, like the cowboy kind or better) also provide the best defense as the hard exterior makes it lots more difficult for the fangs to get deep enough to envenomate (and a hard thick surface like that also increases the chances of the strike slipping and not landing a direct hit). Should you get too close by accident and you hear that rattle, don't move. Treat it like a deadly game of red-light-green-light if you need to, just do your best to go still. Don't flinch, don't turn, and don't jump (even though it is very hard, I understand, it's a suggestion if you got good muscle restraint). The snake is waiting for you to make your move, literally. It's as terrified as you are, and is making a ruckus to let you know it's far too close for its own possible safety. Staying still is typically your best bet, letting them know you are not trying to dance around it to attack (like how its normal predators such as roadrunners and coyotes do). This is not guaranteed, but it is proven to work most of the time. Once the snake realizes the misunderstanding it will usually slow down its rattle and slowly turn away from your direction to cautiously make its escape. You should react the same way; wait until it is out of striking distance (two-thirds of their estimated body length) and back away SLOWLY. Running will only startle the snake and it might strike you in self-defense! Even when facing away they got good aim! Nerd Explains got the "what to do if bitten" down, though!

I live in Texas and this is great info. I’ve had one or two run ins with rattlers but never close enough to risk getting bitten though. A buddy of mine bought some land and was walking around his new property and came across a brood of juvenile rattlers. Not sure if this was the smartest thing to do but he used a long grabber claw to pick them up and put them in a barrel with slick sides and shot them from there lol. Maybe not the most efficient way to do it but he got some free rattler skins to send off to the tanner lmao. I don’t live in a particularly arid part of Texas though so I’ve had a bunch of encounters with coral snakes and copperheads

I agree with the precautions for the wild. If it`s in my yard, what`s to stop me from smacking it with a hoe or throwing a rock on it...damn you make it sound like a dragon. Relax. It`s just a snake. Don`t get me wrong I respect all animals and leave them alone as long as they don`t intentionally try to hurt me. But I am not afraid of an animal i can beat with a stick. Just carry a stick and a fire arm(handgun will do) while out in the wild. That`s it.

@@elitilton7015 While I'm against snake killing, sometimes things are unavoidable. To add to the sucking the venom out myth, all it takes is a cavity, small cut, or anything like that in your mouth or throat and you are entirely screwed. If you use chewing tobacco you're envenomed, you have gingivitis envenomated, a small cut on your lips envenomated. Not to mention the fact that most bites are intramuscular meaning suction most likely won't suck out anything.

Honestly, I wouldn't have gone for smothering the old man as it would take too much time before someone could potentially return. There are a lot medication and chemicals inside a hospital. Simply filling a syringe and injecting into the IV drip could have caused an overdose that would not lead back to you. It would be important to make sure that the hospital security cameras didn't catch you going in or out, however.
@phykorekx3556
@phykorekx3556 2 жыл бұрын
I was thinking along those lines too. The IV is an access to the heart. You could even inject a ton of air into his iv which is less suspicious if he passes. The problem with air is that it doesn’t guarantee it does the job. People have survived having a lot of air in their veins via IV.

Yeah, and it’s weird because the ghosts of the other victims seemed to be the innocent people you described, so it’s like the movie wanted to dabble in that interesting moral ambiguity without fully committing to it when it comes to the main character. Missed opportunity.

With the oils on your hands, in one pair of gloves in the right conditions you can leave fingerprints. Normally they’re partials or not complete sets but even that can be enough to be a damming point of evidence. Two pairs could remedy that potentially

I don't live in the US or anywhere near any desert-type area and I STILL know letting your child wonder around that area is extremely dumb because of rattlesnakes. She should have either had her daughter stay in the car (either with the AC on or all the windows rolled down) OR had her stand right by her. That was an insanely dumb move. I don't have kids, but my niece is 5 and I wouldn't let her wonder away like that even in a SAFE area.

Watching this gave me a vivid flashback. Back to when I was a really small kid, my mom, little brother and I had just come back from walking on this canal. My mom opened the door and headed inside; problem was she didn't notice the baby rattlesnake on the front porch. It didn't go in though; it was just curled up minding its own business. But you know how kids are. I couldn't help but notice the snake the moment I looked down. And then, with my giga brain, I decided to put my head right beside it to get a closer look! I don't know if it was an act of grandfather up in the sky himself, but the snake didn't attack me. My brother was scared quiet behind me while I just watched those eyes stare back at me. Its tongue flicked a few times. My mom eventually came back, wondering why her kids weren't inside. She saw the snake and screamed! It didn't move, I didn't move until my mom eventually screamed at me to go and get our neighbors. They came back with me, one holding a shovel and the other their double barrel. I watched them kill the snake and then they just scooped it up with the shovel, taking it away. I don't know why I remembered this so suddenly from just watching this, heck we weren't even talking about the rattlers but about how the woman has terrible aim, and she is okay with that. But uh yeah, that's my story of being super close to a deadly snek.

I know you said that reacting in such an animated way to the bike kid's death would be drawing unnecessary attention which would increase the chances of a murder charge, but it would actually possibly work in her favour. If she ever was discovered to be the killer, she has witnesses, including doctors, nurses and bystanders to what clearly appears to be a psychotic break or schizophrenic episode. She would still be imprisoned, but she would have a much better chance of release upon proving that she's "well" again and by playing up a slow steady recovery. Her daughter would likely be placed with other family, she could later explain that she was very sick and in a delusional state attacked someone (leaving out the crackhead voodoo serial killer bit). The best part of this method and why I think it would be most effective is the element of double jeopardy. Plenty of murders get convicted decades later because of the employment of technology which wasn't, at the time, in existence. This method rules out that potential fate. It also provides her with the availability of therapy which the state would provide as part of her incarnation. While she couldn't tell a psychiatrist everything, she could still cherry pick the bits she can talk about and express and recover from the immense trauma that was this whole experience.
@levinyman8790

While this is hypothetically a great idea I wanted to point out a few things as someone who's been hospitalized, has known people who were in State Hospitals, and even knows someone who got 2 separate Not Guilty:Insanity results: 1) when someone is sentenced to forced hospitalization instead of imprisonment (in the US at least) it's indefinite and can last longer than the person would have normally been sentenced to and staff at State Hospitals often experience pressure to not release inmates too early 2) Simply proving she had a psychotic episode Would Not automatically give her a reduced sentence or time in a State Mental Hospital rather than a jail sentence. She did several things in the movie which proved she thought this plan through and was acting with self-preservation in mind which courts often use to determine if someone was sane at the time of the crime. She wore concealing clothes, covered her face, bought a gun from an under the table arms dealer, took him somewhere he wasn't likely to be found, and blew up his truck. Any judge or jury would look at those facts and determine that she was thinking her actions through and attempting not to get caught. She might get in-prison basic mental health care but it's very unlikely she would end up with a Not Guilty by way of insanity plea 3) Even if she got a Not Guilty by way of Insanity result it would be insanely difficult for her to get her daughter back especially since she would be put on a forced treatment plan which would keep her on medications that would be giving her plenty of negative side effects and absolutely no positive effects. Since her violence would be determined to be caused by her mental illness she also may not be able to have custody of her daughter for a long time in case of recurrent episodes. 5) It's insanely fucking hard to fake schizophrenia or any kind of psychosis especially long term. Psychiatrists will ask you many many detailed questions that you will have to be able to answer consistently while also managing your actions, expressions, and beliefs. It's seriously not easy to fake or pretend especially well enough to skirt the law Also I can guarantee that State Hospitals are hell and worse than prison, I've had friends who have been to both and I have never heard anyone say that State Hospitals are better. Most State Hospitals are on lockdown all day every day, you have no allies, and you're forced to undergo horrific treatment. Even in the short term inpatient hospitals I was in you would not have recieved " therapy to recover from the immense trauma that was this whole experience" except in the form of structured groups and she would almost definitely be discouraged from discussing triggering topics
