i was looking at your IG images, you do such amazing work. it's funny because i don't think most of us associate this product with a lot of colour, not to mention it's hard to break out of the mentality that this is an aesthetic you can take beyond what you imagine only existed in a wild west saloon in the 1860's or a 1920's speakeasy. today, 'fancy' means you see some frosted glass in a chain restaurant. what excites me about it beyond the creative possibilities is the potential as a side hustle. i'm a business owner by nature, i've paid dues that would give people a heart attack, and i've felt the pride of making something and selling it. i want to get back into that! not a lot of folk are willing to share 'boring' business experience -- which i don't really blame them for as you have to be careful who you're setting up as competition -- but, if you ever did some videos about the business side, i for one would in the front row soaking it up.

Thanks I really appreciate it! I have to admit I’m a rubbish business man and I’ve never taken this beyond the ‘profitable hobby’ stage, so my advice on that subject isn’t worth much. :)

@@happygilder ah, gotcha, lol. i'm in the U.S., so what business advice you'd have might not be applicable to me anyway, but things like how to ship these safely, how you view pricing strategies, your costs, etc., i find interesting. i've been a small business owner, but there's always something new to learn or something i haven't thought of.

Your craftsmanship looks superb. Aside from lettering, I think your niche can be branding, such as logos for businesses and work places or even gift shops, etc. including online giftshops. I can think of hotels and many more, definitely at your quality of work. And I can think of dropshippers who expose your products, yet you send their buyers your ware. The world is your oyster. Thank you for the demonstration. I am not quite clear how you ended up getting to the end result but I am interested in gold leafing on a couple of prospective projects and I found your handling of the gold leaves is much more gentle and with excellent results compared to some other youtubers.

Thanks very much, I really appreciate it! And I’m glad you’re enjoying the videos :) I’ve kind of given up on doing this as a business. I was pushing it quite hard a few years ago but I work full time and didn’t have the courage to give up my job I’m happy with it just being a hobby and I still do 1 or 2 commissions a year :)

hello I'm from Brazil, nice work you do, the gold and silver leaves you apply a colorless liquid beforehand with a brush what would that liquid that you apply with a brush be?
@happygilder2 жыл бұрын
Hi Tiago! The liquid is called 'size' and it's a mixture of distilled water and leaf gelatine. Here's a link to a video where I go in to detail about gilding: kzfaq.info/get/bejne/n9J9rLqE2MDJiJc.html

Can I ask a relevant question that's not directly related to this video?... Instead of sandblasting glass using the method that you use, would acid-etching the glass do instead?
@happygilder3 жыл бұрын
Hi Alan. Acid etching plate glass will work fine as a gilding technique, but it won’t work for glue chipping, nor will it work on the back of a mirror. The lead paint on the back of a mirror is acid proof. I hope that answers your question :-D 🍻
@Alan_AB3 жыл бұрын
@@happygilder It does indeed answer my question. Thank you for your prompt reply. Your videos are so good that you have prompted me to have a go myself. I can get patterns acid-etched, but I can't get them sandblasted. Thanks again.

@happygilder - Hi! I love your videos and designs! Awesome work! I would like to know how to go about combining the etching with the gold on a mirror. I saw you did a video where you sand blasted the bitcoin logo but i can’t figure out how to do both etching and the leafing. I don’t have a sandblaster.

Hi Paul I’ve seen some of your videos, you really did an amazing work. It inspires me to do the same thing. Well to be honest I was looking the basic technique videos about the glass gilding then I found your chanel since I am a part-time artist, I did mostly on the lettering for the automotive but I really wanted to go deeper about the gilding. Thank you so much to provide this video. 1 thing I would like to ask you what is exactly the substances which you placed inside the jar? Once again thank you so much, greetings from Indonesia. 👏
@happygilder2 жыл бұрын
Thanks very much, I’m really glad you like the channel! The mix in the jar is distilled water and leaf gelatine. My 3rd video covers the process in more detail. Unfortunately the sound quality isn’t great because I was still learning the video editing side of things. Be sure t share pics of anything you make. I’d love to see it!

Sorry Ken I completely missed this message. You can buy really nice panel designs from Ephemera fonts. Then you’d just need to choose a nice font for the name of the establishment
