Yes, you know the addiction is real when you're hiding stuffing your face with donuts, and you're literally getting high but just for a few min before and during your binge. Then it's guilt, self-hate, and feeling miserable for however long it takes til it's outa your system. It's so not worth it. I have to look at donuts like they're crack or heroin now, lol. Dr. Berry and Dr. Cywes helped me see this.

I was 380lbs, and in 7 months in down to 255 cutting most to all carbs, going mostly carnivore, and water and coffee only fasting for up to seven days. I went from a useless lump of fat that couldn't walk anywhere or work for over 4 years to being a hard worker and athletic again. I went from so much inflammation and spinal compression that i couldn't be on my feet for 10 minutes without his legs going totally numb to a person who just spent an entire day climbing ladders and painting a gymnasium for a local school. I went from telling my kids i couldn't play with them to playing soccer with them. This has totally transformed my life, and the lives of my kids as well. I was a walking heart attack a month or two from death when i started. I could barely make it to the bathroom in time anymore, I couldn't stay awake and fell asleep any time i sat down (even driving a mile to the post office or grocery store) and i let my entire life degrade to the point death was almost welcomed. I fail constantly at this. I've even given up several times. I ate half a lemon bundt cake in two days, followed by chocolate chip cookies afterwords just a week ago. Today I'm on day 3 of a water and coffee fast trying to undo the problems it caused. He's right. Do not ever give up. Ever. Treat it like a life or death situation and keep walking forward. If you can't walk, crawl. Don't give up because you fell, just do it one more time. Then one more time again. Then one more time again. Don't focus on the goal at the end, focus on forcing yourself to take one more step in the direction of that goal. The goal is nothing more than the arrow on the compass. A point to give you direction. Don't tell yourself "only ten more to go". Tell yourself "just one more step" over and over and over.

I was 426 in october 5th 2023, my heaviest was 429. Since then, I quit bread, cookies, and cake since, and dropped 40lbs since. But I'm only down 40 lbs since because I reintroduced coffee into my life, which for me to drink it requires a tsp of either sugar or honey, with creamer, butter and salt. Unfortunately, a close one recommended me to use honey instead, now we both regret it, and it's been hell for me since. It made me addicted to it, I've had about 10 kilos of honey in the past couple months, if not more... About 3-4 TSPs a day (3-4 coffees a day, sometimes 6). When I don't have any, it feels like drug withdrawals, and my sides hurt, and I have this drop in my mood and feel horrible, like some sort of anxious depression.. Quitting sugar was easier than honey. I'm guessing because honey has fructose and fructose is like a fkn steroid-heroin-cocaine drug mix for my brain. As we speak, I have a small cup of coffee, and a cup of tea sitting next to each other. I'm so disappointed in myself dude, fkn hell man.

@BIGGELATO it's a perfectly valid way to feel. That's normal. The hard part is putting that behind you. You are right. Sugar, in general, is a drug. And comes with withdrawal symptoms. Sometimes, there are severe symptoms. And why they're not recognized by whatever association does that I don't understand. Headaches, dizziness, tremors, loss of consciousness, extreme fatigue, sleeplessness, mood swings from hell, nausea, malaise, and just general misery are some of what I made it through. It sounds like an AA meeting. When I started to figure it out, it was watching a video about how sugars activate the same regions of the brain as cocane and meth. That's when I figured out the addiction is real, and honestly, I believe it is extremely widespread, just not known about yet. I believe you may be on to something there about honey, too. Though I wonder if maybe it doesn't last as long as refined sugars and therefore needs to be taken more often? The important part is acknowledge the failure, pack it away in the trash bag we call yesterday, and pick one way, just one way, one thing that you decide you will succeed at today, even if you fail all other things. Pick one thing today that you decide hell and high water can not stop you from achieving. If you have to, pick the same thing every day until it's gone and you are free to pick something else. Just one thing, just one day. Just put your head down and your shoulders into it, and decide that no matter what, you're going to push through. I still fail. But I also succeed.
@crisnevin7934
@crisnevin7934 5 ай бұрын
@1971_happylifedog how did it go today? It's OK to fail. It happens. It's normal to feel discouraged from time to time. Don't let the fact that you do feel discouraged make you feel worse. You can do this. You can do this because you have a reservoir of awesome inside you that is bottomless! And it's OK to tap into it as much as you want. It's not easy, it's not fun, it doesn't feel good right away. But it gets better, and the rewards are great! Remember, don't measure the distance to your goal, it's too far away. Don't tell yourself only 1 mile to go. Don't say "just one more day". Say "take one more step" then say "take one more step" again. Then again. And when your brain says "I can't" you tell it "shut up, you can, and you will." And it'll shut up for a while, and you'll realize that yes, you can. You know what? I'm not actually concerned with how today went. What I really want to know is, how will tomorrow go? I hope it was a great day, but I want tomorrow to be great. And that's up to you. You're awesome, make tomorrow a great day!

@@crisnevin7934 I just finished watching The Sugar Film, it made me pour my full cup of tea down the drain, and delete a bunch of social media stuff such as Pinterest boards (foods, sweets), anything that can influence me. And saw a few interviews and videos that helped me make a decision, and funny enough, it's the same "quote/saying" I used to quitting smoking 7 years ago; change your identity, not your habits. Tell yourself you don't relate to smoking and stop smoking. It's been 7 years, and although close folks still smoke, they still can't believe I'm over it, and never had one since. Also, smelling second hand smoke is revolting to me now. But ya, ill try this again and see. It's always more motivating to hear others cheer you up, rather than trying to find willpower in things all the time. Sometimes all we need is a simple boost from one another. Thank you for replying 🙏

In early October 2020, I visited my physician. I weighed in at 365 lbs, had an A1C of 9.5, a glucose level that day of 363, and was diagnosed as a type 2 diabetic. I immediately adopted a daily 16 hour fasting regimen and the ketogenic diet. I've lost 70 lbs in a little over 3 months. My A1C and daily glucose levels are back within normal range. I came home terrified that day, but I found your videos and followed your advice. Sincerely, thank you Dr. Berry!

Maybe (probably) you are malnourished in the minerals from vegetables, do you eat them a lot? cooked? because the soils today are so depleted of nutrients compared to 100 years ago. We need to eat more vegs daily. You might have toxic metals too, we all do. Hair tissue mineral analysis of Dr l. Wilson recommended.(although his healing program is demanding)
@SandyCheeks63564
@SandyCheeks63564 2 жыл бұрын
@@Medietos Thanks for the idea of malnourishment driving his addiction. Interesting. As Dr Berry wisely suggested in another video, instead of the expensive tests, try the harmless remedy. If it works, you know it was the correct hypothesis without the expensive testing. We all can't afford elective medicals such as the above. Half of us in the US don't even have insurance.
@SandyCheeks63564
@SandyCheeks63564 2 жыл бұрын
As Claudia said you may be lacking real nutrients. Do you eat Lots of vegs? Do you supplement? We all need extra magnesium, zinc, potassium (we have a very high recommendation 4,700 mg a day), D3 with MK7 for proper calcium absorption. And chlorella (also cilantro the delicious herb) for chelating heavy metals so your body can excrete them. And if you are well nourished with vits & minerals, maybe you can just settle for having some stevia. I've gotten used to it to be honest. How long have you been doing keto? I'm starting to feel less addicted, but it's been about 6 months for me. I cheated many times around my birthday & Christmas and was hard to get back on the wagon, but I was determined because I don't want to be ill and on pills driving my body crazy for my last several decades.

What I do is I IMAGINE myself eating a bag of chips. I take my time to think about the taste, te crunch, the dusty fingers, just until I finish my imaginary bag. And then I feel like I've satisfied my "need" to eat those chips. I got the phantom experience and the craving is almost gone. Sounds stupid, but if it works, it ain't stupid :D

@@russelpacheco6296.. there is no proof that stevia raises insulin. If you can find me one credible source that proves otherwise, please post it. And not a study in the back of random magazine. There has been proof that a very small percentage of people get a slight increase in blood sugar but those people were using packets of stevia with either maltodextrin or dextrose as the binding agent. Straight stevia and pure 100% Sucralose has no effect on the vast majority of people using it.

I quit smoking 28 years ago, and it was the hardest thing I did. But I am definitely just as addicted to sugar. I have it somewhat under control but I really want to stop having dark chocolate after dinner. This is the last thing. Sometimes it gets out of hand too, where I want to have chocolate after lunch and dinner or make a “healthy” chocolate smoothie for breakfast. But it’s all related and I need to see what it’s like one month free of this.

I don't know what I am! I can have a freezer full of ice cream (5 pints currently) candy, cake, chips, soda and can go for MONTHS and never touch it and actually forget that I have it. Then I'll throw it all out and end up buying it all again. It's truly a psycho thing with me. I eat some not even once a month and it's never as good as I think it will be but for some reason, I just can't throw it out and leave it out. I always buy more. I've wasted hundreds of dollars on this. Maybe one day I'll say goodbye forever. I've lost over 100 lbs doing IF and now switching to carnivore and that is really helping. I definitely get sugar addiction crazes if I don't get my whole-grain Millet, Brown rice, Buckwheat, Oat and Quinoa and eat big meals 3x a day. Different constitutions. Processed/ white/refined carbs are said to behave like sugar in the body, so it is no surprise if it triggers you. but do well-chewed (soaked and cooked) gluten-free whole-grain also effect sugar lows and - fixes? @@Medietos Hi Claudia. I’m not an expert but I have seen some videos in this community on gluconeogenisis - the creation of glucose by liver. This process creates a more appropriate level of glucose as required for our body to function optimally without over stimulating insulin. Hope this helps. I have been mostly carnivore for about 18months and am now on day 6 of only animal products (meat and some feta - no honey). I am feeling great but it has been a long journey slowly removing things. This latest choice has come as an attempt to overcome hunger. Whenever I eat things like blueberries or xylitol with cream cheese, I always struggle with not feeling satiated. Eating only meat definitely helps with eating a more appropriate volume of food per day and feeling satiated as opposed to not.

Daily intermittent fasting + keto works best for me. I have gradually progressed to 20:4 (4 hr eating window). It really reduces cravings and helps keep insulin/ blood sugars more stable. I make sure I eat nutrient dense food with adequate protein, veggies and supplements every day. Also awareness of my triggers and making a point of having my last such and such has helped me with this transition giving up refined sugars and keeping carbs low. I really overdid the sugar in my life and this was a tremendous challenge. At this point sugar-laden foods make me feel tired and achy, and I believe I have a fatty liver which I’m trying to reverse, so I know how much better off I am without. I still use keto sweeteners, but with 20 hour fasts my cravings are mostly emotional, I physically don’t want sugar like I used to.

Everyone told to just use artificial sweeteners but I believe you’re 100% right here. It just keeps that craving around and eventually you go back to the sugar. thank you for sharing that about the addiction to sweetness vs pure sugar. As someone who had a major food addiction and eating disorder, what I discovered on my path of freedom was that it wasn't the food or the sugar I was addicted to but the effect that those foods produced. (i.e. an internal state of ease, comfort, reward, pleasure, distraction, etc ) Once I got free from what was driving me to food in the first place and developed the capacity to cultivate a sense of ease and comfort internally without needing food, the food problem just went away. That was over a decade ago. Thank you for this informative video and for the important work you do!

An alcoholic or an addicted smoker wouldn’t set themselves a goal of weeks or months. I’m not gonna eat sugar today would be a more realistic goal.

When I quit smoking, I set a 30 day goal to be done completely. So yes, we do.

I don't think there is a one size fits all solution. Some people can do goals. For me I did it day by day, (to quit smoking), as you mentioned. When the last day came, I just knew it 100%. It took me about a year of cutting down, and most people didn't even know I smoked for that year. My last day I threw away a half pack of cigarettes and I've never craved them even for a moment since that time. I can't even stand the smell of cigarettes anymore.

Dr. Berry, I got the book "The Case for Keto" by Gary Taubes. He used one of your quotes as a tag line for one of his chapters. "Chasing a calorie deficit is a fool's game". I am sure you know this but thought it was neat that he read your material.

I quit smoking 22 years ago and never looked back. I went cold turkey. I'm doing the same with sugar. I do think eating keto and intermittent fasting is very helpful. I have not felt hungry or had any cravings at all. I've tried in the past and didn't even last a day. I'm 7 days in.

If you liked this video, you may also want to know that while marketing makes you think brown sugar is more natural than white sugar, the only difference is that brown sugar is turned to white sugar by adding phosphate! And when it comes to gut health, brown and white sugar have similar effects!

I gave up sugar about 4 years ago when I first tried keto. I've been on-and-off keto multiple times since but sugar(or sweeteners) is the only thing that I never come back to. 90-95% cocoa chocolate is the only treat that I occasionally consume and it's delicious and perfectly satisfying. What's crazy is that once you've weaned yourself off of sugar sweet things taste so sickly that you don't even want to think about eating(or drinking) them.

GREAT advice! I am a sugar addict. I didn't know it until I changed from a low fat, high carb, whole food diet to low carb to now ketovore. Now, it is so obvious I can't believe I didn't know it before. Honesty, and gentleness with yourself is key. Thank you for helping make my journey slightly easier. The improvements in my health were SO worth the effort.

If you appreciated this video, you may also want to know that the World Health Organization (WHO) recommends consuming no more than 25 grams per day (or 6 teaspoons) of added sugar. This is the amount of added sugar found in 1 cup of most orange juices, 1 container of yogurt, a 3 inch donut 2 tablespoons of honey barbecue sauce, or ½ a small brownie!

Went on keto for a month, not sure how I did it. Lost 20 pounds (including water weight, to be fair) and felt better than ever, no overeating or cravings during that time. Then I had a taste of carbs and sugar again and it all spiraled down from there. The moment I start keto again I must give up sugar and processed carbs for good if I want things to stay this way.
