Nathan, it is sad but true. Some people look horrible these days. They pay tons of money for jeans (UGH!!) that look like they are ready to be thrown away. They are the same people who don't tuck a shirt in. They probably have a tacky suit and ugly tie that their own father would not consider wearing these days too.

I also can identify. I am now in my 40s and have been a fan of classic style look. Back in the the early 1900s farmers wore suits in the field. In our family they wanted to make sure they look good on all occasions. You dont often see that today.

Gentleman's Gazette is the go-to place to up your game. Also, listen to Hugo Jacomet as to what it is to be a gentleman. The outstanding Thing Mr. Jacomet said was (I paraphrase) "A gentleman is kind, never puts another person down, etc. but overall a gentleman is humble." Dressing well and elegantly is a way to make a better society.

Having done quite a bit of interviews for hiring people over the years, the real difference in the college slouch and the sharp dressed man is in how seriously they are taken. When people came wearing flip-flops faded/worn jeans, and wrinkled shirts (or worse t-shirts), I immediately made a judgement. I'm not bragging about that and I'm sure I passed over some good people but in my opinion, if a person doesn't care enough to dress well, they had two strikes against them from the start. The sad thing is that in today's politically correct society, I couldn't give them that feedback. But when I have a chance to coach someone going to an interview, I start with how they should dress.

I've bought from Benny Reese of Reese's Vintage Pieces before, and I can recommend dealing with him. I own a (approx.) 1918-1924 two-piece suit which I bought from him, along with a waistcoat from the 1860s. He tends to have a lot more 1930s, '40s, and '50s. Great collection though.

I am new to this channel and am wondering if you have advice on picking a tailor/seamstress or how to communicate with them so you get the look you want. Also, how does one determine a reasonable price for hemming pants, etc. The older I get the more suspenders make sense. Thanks so much.

Making friends with dealers and being consistent buying from them is key too. I have made friends & they sent me 2 free ascots when i paid for 1, and we became friends and he will send more (plus a smoking jacket whenever I get my sizing). So i support their ebay store, and what they do sell. And yes, less than $20. Pashmina & silk scarves, Versace pocket squares and shirts, Charvet, all under $20 each. At the most i spend maybe $50-70 a piece (used) for Turnbull, Mezlan (Italian) shoes because they were like $500-800 new and worth it lol. Ebay (and online) has a lot of deals if you willing to look and research a lot (like I do. I also have plenty experience on how to spot fakes, i'm the best at it). Not everyone knows what they selling or care to make a fortune, like this versace piece I hope to win the auction today. hope this helps someone

Hey Gentleman's Gazette, I'd like to "dress up" more often, but I don't want to be "that guy". Do you have any recommendations for everyday wear?
@myroastisruined7119
@myroastisruined7119 8 жыл бұрын
You will definitely become "that guy" if you dress up more often than just during special occasions. The question is if it's something bad, which it isn't. After a while after becoming "that guy" you'll feel more confident and you'll also take pride in dressing up. The only way to not become that guy is to wear untucked shirts and avoid leather shoes, but that wouldn't be very stylish. So the options are to fit in in a modern group or have the courage to be the best dressed man in the room. Me myself choose the second option and it works great for me.

I am currently making the transition from dressing as a boy with jeans hoodies etc to dressing as a man, oxfords, chinos and dress shirts etc, im 24 and British and believe me, once the going to an interview comments pass, which they will, everyone will love it, women especially. its sad that dressing like a gent has whilst also being timeless, gone the way of all most being outspoken. But first impressions are always the most important, even if you never see them again. Be that guy they remember as "the gent who dressed spectacularly" rather than "boy in hoodie"

When i was about 14-15 i dressed as all teachers said ”elegant”. I wore like shirts with ties or bowties, often with some kind of pull over. I had chinos, dresspants or very nice jeans. I had derby shoes or similar kinds of shoes and i had a nice overcoat. Unfortuneatly i didn’t own any blazers or so and that is expensive to buy when you still growing but since a long time lefted the children’s section in stores :( Then i started the ”gymnasium” (school for age 16-18) and i went to a music programme so everyone was kind of ”indiepop” so i was going a bit to that and then more to punk style. But now when i go to university i wanna go back to that more elegant style. I have always loved likte the 60s style of mods fashion and 60s furniture. But i also love to see movies and stuff from or about the time from like 1900 to 1969 cause people looked so good. Don’t get me wrong folks! People look good today too and of course everyone should wear clothes they like! But i really like that style with suits, blazers etc... Unfortuneatly it’s expensive to buy nice suits and blazers:( I thought of starting with cheap suits from for example H&m since i can get a full suit there for under 1000kr but noooooo... everything they have are named ”skinny” or ”super skinny” and i went there and knew that they would have sizes up to like 40 and i normally have somewhere between 52 and 56 depending of brand.... i went there and saw a blazer... size 40.... put it on.... and realized that that size was in reality like a 46 or 48.... veeerryyy smaaaaallll... the sleves ended like with my elbow and the whole blazer was so f*cking short i can’t explain it... that was a ”skinny”....
