I like it. Simple and elegant. All the wood is pressure treated except for the slats? Is that because pressure treated lasts longer than regular wood? I mean you could have saved a few bucks on the rafters.
@SEEZELIFE
@SEEZELIFE 7 ай бұрын
All the wood I used was treated. For any outdoor exposure, I prefer treated for better longevity especially due to the high level of humidity we experience down here in South Louisiana. Thanks for watching.

I mentioned it when talking about the slope and height differences but the shorter side is just over 8 feet and the high side is around 9.5ft. It’s a 9 degree slope. Good luck with your build sir !

Thinking about doing this with some T-11 siding and turn it into a shop for my projects. Currently rebuilding a 6.4 Powerstroke! Thank you very much for this video. Could i get away with 2x6x16's for the rafters or will I have to buy 2x6x20's? I am struggling to find 20's in my area.
@SEEZELIFE
@SEEZELIFE 3 ай бұрын
I think you mean the joists which are the horizontal support between my posts. I used 2x10x20 because I could find them at a local woodshop (not a Home Depot or Lowe’s since they only carry 16ft). You could get away with 16ft and only two posts but then your shop wouldn’t be long enough to fit your truck completely underneath it. My 4Runner is 16 feet long hence wanting the 20 foot overhang. What you could do is add a third post on each side and then get either (2) 10 or 12 foot joists so that your shop could be a longer length. You would have to tweak my design ever so slightly but that’s what I would do to make it work.
@alexandershultz9913
@alexandershultz9913 3 ай бұрын
@@SEEZELIFE In the description it says (11)2x6x20' rafters. I planned on doing the 2x10x12's for the joists and adding a 3rd post on each side to allow for a 12x24, giving me plenty of room to fit the truck under and have enough room to work around it. I was just wondering cause 20' is quite a lot of length for rafters, i'd assume they would be 12ft ±9 degrees. I assume you meant another measurement for the rafters?
@SEEZELIFE
@SEEZELIFE 3 ай бұрын
Yessir, you are correct…Just updated the description. 2x6x12 is the correct rafter length I used. 2x10x20 is the wood type I used for the joists.

Interesting, thanks for posting. Is there any concern about the 2x10's sagging in the middle? It seems like it would be reasonable to throw up a couple of 4x4's halfway down just to help hold it all up, or is that totally unnecessary?
@SEEZELIFE
@SEEZELIFE 2 ай бұрын
Unnecessary for my load. Considering the support braces in each corner the length of unsupported load is only about 12ft across which for a 2x10 is nothing. Thanks for watching my friend!

Really nice job, what’s the length of the 6x6 posts and were the side posts higher than opposite posts to get the pitch ? I know you said 2 1/2 ft in ground ; can you tell me how high above ground all 4 posts to creat that pitch ? Thank you 🙏
@SEEZELIFE
@SEEZELIFE 8 ай бұрын
Native Cherokee, thanks for watching and your comment. The posts on the house side were 12ft long and buried 2.5 foot in ground. So the height of the roof on that side is roughly 9.5ft The posts on the fence side were 10 feet long and buried 2ft in the ground. So the roof height on that side is 8ft. With the horizontal distance between the posts on the house side and fence side being just under 10ft, the slope of the roof was roughly 2/12 (I’m not a roofer but I learned this term during the course of the project).

@packofhounds
@packofhounds Ай бұрын
As someone that owns a double wide with a front and rear porch/overhang that was attached to the house by the previous owner... DON'T DO IT!!! A mobile home is always moving (settling) and all it did was cause water issues where the two structures connect. It's too much weight to just hang off the side of the house. I took apart the back lean-to and rebuilt mine freestanding in a variation of what's seen in this video. Now there is no more damaging weight hanging off the mobile home. The front will be disassembled as well. I hate that the previous owner did that. He basically ruined part of the house by trying to improve it.
