I do quantum computing research. A couple clarifications: 1) Moores law slowing is an example given… buttttttt normal and quantum comps do v different things, and with more efficient gate voltage techniques, traditional semiconductor devices can still scale if the gate voltage (or potential barrier) is large enough (see 1D quantum well problems in any intro quantum text) 2) electrons can still be used for quantum information. How? Well, we can use electron spin. Or for superconducting quantum computers, the number of cooper pairs (electrons that pair up due to electron phonon interaction due to the BCS theory that governs conventional superconductors) can be used with the phase of the josephson junction as a conjugate variable. Or flux and charge can be used, with charge being derived from the cooper pairs in the JJ and flux being the persistent current through the superconductor insulator superconductor heterostructure. 3) Grover’s algorithm was mentioned as the search algorithm. However, you are also required to provide an oracle for the thing you are searching for. Additionally it doesn’t beat binary search for an already sorted database. It does beat unstructured search if given the proper oracle. 4) the rsa breaking algorithm is Shor’s algorithm. This requires a high circuit depth and/or connectivity and lots of qubits since the was we do this is via quantum Fourier transform which has a lot of controlled unitary operations. The most immediate application of quantum technology is sensing. Then secure communications.
