I would suggest using cut-resistant gloves, a dead-man pedal switch for the electricity and if you're left handed, don't even think of using your right hand in the same manner as Harry is using his left. With the clockwise rotation of the tool, if it skips it will chew your finger away before you can react.

Great tip on using callus material locations to induce budding for new branches on elms👌🏼.

Bonsai Echo they can bud from callus tissue so well that it can be annoying!

I have an elm nearby that has a very interesting trunk but has also been chopped like this. It has a beautiful shari down one side but the leaves are huge. I’m certain it’s not a wych elm, the leaves are very rough like sandpaper and the typical elm shape. Would the leaves reduce over time? (It was chopped back sometime in the summer so I think it is trying to gather as much energy as possible with the leaves it is growing).

spamel the leaves on elms reduce well, to at least 1/2 size

A year on and the tree is doing well, virtually no roots when collected so I am letting it grow this year. I used lime sulphur for the first time on the shari which now looks good but I do need to completely restart the branch structure, maybe a job for next year tho. Next update in 2022! Thanks again Harry for replying and keep the vids coming, if you are ever near Leeds let me know please so I can pick your brain!
