How to change the fuel filter on a Toyota Landcruiser 80 Series with 4.5L 6-cylinder petrol engine 1FZ-FE (model FZJ80, FZJ70 or FZJ105).
80 Series (FZJ80) - 1992 onwards
105 Series (FZJ105) - 1998 onwards
70 Series (FZJ70/FZJ73/FZJ75) - 1992 onwards
70 Series (FZJ78/FZJ79) - 1999 onwards

Parts used:
Toyota 23300-69045 fuel filter assembly (includes 4x new gaskets)
2x Toyota 90401-12097 fuel union (banjo) bolt
If fuel filter mounting bolts are required (x2) - Toyota 91621-B0816
If additional gaskets are required (x4) - Toyota 90430-12026 OR 90430-T0003 (substitute)
All genuine part numbers were found by entering vehicle VIN number into PartSouq:

Tools used:
Jack
Jack stand
Metric socket set - 12, 17, 21 mm
Socket wrench with extensions to suit above socket
Torque wrench (15-109 lb-ft, 21-147 Nm)
Flathead screwdriver
Paper towels
Small plastic container (for spills)
Safety glasses and nitrile gloves (strongly recommended)
Optional tools (if slotting filter mounting hole):
Hacksaw
File
Paintbrush
Black paint (touch-up)

This has to be the best 1FZ-FE fuel filter video there is. Really appreciate getting the camera in that tight spot and getting the lighting right. I'm sure that took some time. Well done.

@@2ndGearLow I couldn't agree more! I have a '97 w/ 275k miles and it looks like the original filter. I will be watching this and doing it this weekend. I always use a paint pen and date my parts on install. Helps me and lets anyone else know what's up. Cheers!!

Fair dinkum the best instructional videos for Toyota Landcruiser 80-series, or car maintenance in general, really. Timestamps and chapters, tool list, part numbers, torque specs, zoomed-in stills, and FSM references. This is the standard that all other KZfaqrs should aspire to meet. Cheers!

I can't thank you enough on how well made the video is. The tips + the tools needed to be used to fix the filter were like cherry on top. Made everything easy to me. top quality presentation. I use a 19mm open ender ( hex on filter) to hold the filter whilst tightening the 17mm banjo. While slotting the mounting leave the blanking plugs in place to prevent contamination. The 80 series is legendary.

Yes, good point, as can be seen in the close up shots there is a hex fitting on the fuel filter to enable a spanner to be used to stop the filter from turning while tightening or loosening those banjo bolts, however we still find it easier to do this when the mounting bolts are also holding it in place

Good video idea, can't say there's a good video on the 1FZ, only the 3F which is easy. You also just pull one of the fuses to depressurise the fuel system, much easier. Another good idea for a video would be the pesky heater hose. I didn't have much trouble with mine in the end.

Hi Michael, thanks for watching! We disconnected the fuel pump connector as this is the method used in the Toyota FSM, however pulling the fuse will also achieve the same result as you say. Thanks for the suggestion on the pesky heater hose

We're based in Australia and use a Kincrome Low Profile Rapid Lift Hydraulic Garage Jack 2800kg (Max height raised 510mm), along with a pair of SCA Car Stands Pin 3000kg - all purchased from Supercheap Auto. Yes, 500mm height jack should be fine

Hi, thanks for watching! Yes, it is possible to do the job completely by feel from the top without removing the wheel, however even then it's helpful to be able to look in from the side/below to see what you're aiming for
