This is a simple job-- maybe the simplest maintenance job you’ll do on your Rancher-- but it is absolutely essential. A dirty air filter can inhibit performance, and a damaged air filter can allow dirt and dust to get into the engine. That can be fatal to your motor.
We’ll take you through the process step by step. The foam filter on the Rancher 420 can be cleaned and reused as long as it’s not damaged, so once we pop open the airbox we’ll evaluate it. In our case, replacement is the only option, so we’ll get a replacement air filter for our Rancher, treat it with PJ1 filter oil, and get it reinstalled.

Having difficulty putting filter back in.. does metal air filter part go in or over the black part before putting clamp on..

If I put a k&n air filter on my Honda rancher would I need to put that Metal ring on the inside of the k&n air filter or would it not need it

john, I missed the live feed today because I have a 2007 Honda Foreman ES 4x4 I guess its a TRX500. I need a better schematic for all these wire holders for the body panels. This project is a jig saw puzzle. Do you have any of these for a future project??? Trying to figure out why I have no dash lights although the rest of the lights work. Do I need to look for one fuse only in this case??

Ensure that the voltage regulator wires, none seems almost grounded off. Wiggle wires coming from the dash board see if it sparks life to the dash board. Worse case scenario It could be the voltage regulator needing to be replaced.

Why would oil be at bootom of filter box . And what do I do about it .

Could just be excess air filter oil that had dripped off. The crankcase vent also goes into the air box.
