This video shows how to change a thermostat in a 2004 Jeep Wrangler straight 6cyl. This will work on any jeep from 1996-2005 with the 4.0 Inline 6 engine. This can also be used for earlier jeeps as well. A bad thermostat will cause you to overheat and would make it difficult to continue driving. It is easy to replace the thermostat and watching this video should prove that to you.

It helps if you loosen the serpentine belt which is in front of the thermostat housing. The belt is a real problem when changing the thermostat although it can be changed if you have strong nimble fingers. Chris has a great video on changing the belt as well as this one on changing the thermostat.

Yea, I didnt use a torque wrench on this. You need a torque wrench and the specs in order to torque it properly. I just tighten it to what I think is good from my experience. It helps if you know if the bolt is steel or aluminum, and if the threads are steel or aluminum. Also, smaller bolts typically dont get torqued as hard. Does this answer your question?

Damn Chris this video is so old!! I didn’t even realize it was you until the end! Drive safe please, my wife was in bad car accident and I’m glad she’s alive, and well. My wife drove a 97 Camry v6 and when I wash her car the metal does not flex at all, how ever when I wish my in-laws 2022 Camry trd the doors, side panels, hood flex like it’s made from metal almost a 1/4 thinner the 97 mode! Real question is, are older Toyotas safer than newer Toyotas, or same goes for any car… someone needs to make a series on this…

Make sure you boil the new thermostat on the stove. This is to make sure it opens at 195F. Use a candy thermometer to check the temp. You'd be surprised at how many cheapo thermostats don't open at the correct temp. Use a coat hanger to suspend the thermostat in the water, don't let it touch the pan to get a correct temp reading.

Don't think the thermostat will fix that one will it? Mines blowing cold so I pulled the heater core pipes and blasted the hose through each one in rotation and got a load of cruddy brown water out and now it flows quick and clear. The thermostat doesn't stop the flow of water to the heater core afaik.

@@stephensimmons1537 Looks like my Thermostate was just Plugged up Running a lot better now after cleaned. I originally bought the Autozone Universal Antifreeze and it reacted with the residual in the radiator and clogged my whole System up. I had to flush it and I did report it to Autozone it was the One in the Orange Containers suppose to be Universal and not react but it Did. So now I just put in the Prestone Brand Antifreeze never had a problem with that.

@@claystone7729 if you haven't done it yet pull the heater core pipes (one ontop of the water pump and one to a metal pipe just under it, they're easy to spot) Pull em and flush em with the garden hose and it should make a world of difference. I left mine flushing for a good 30 minutes and the difference in flow rate and colour was night and day! Glad you're in the right direction!

You didn't tell me fluid would come gushing out when I removed that bro. You need to add some details there Hoses: Welded on, couldn't remove. Wire clip: Impossible to figure out as usual, left on. Forced to try and scrape at awkward angle with everthing still attached. Wiped as best as possible with microfiber, and reasembled. Tightened to the point of stripping. Started engine, leaked fluid through gasket everywhere, ran all over driveway. Nice. I'll try again tomorrow. Of course, if it doesn't rain, which it will.

Hey man how do you know if you've torqued it to factor specifications? It's easy to tighten up some bolts but are you just supposed to assume once they can't be tightened anymore it's good? "Torquing to factor specs" sounds very technical, sounds different than just tightening the bolts.

@@rasengunblast don't forget to have them change the trans filter as well. A veteran transmission specialist said most problems were solved after just changing the filter. This can solve a lot of problems alongside the new trans fluid. Make sure to tell them you want a fluid flush, not just a service (where they only drain 1/3 of it from the outer sump. And don't forget to investigate if your transmission has solenoids in it. If it does, find-out which one is the VPS (in Ford speak - variable pressure solenoid) and get that changed for a new one. Buy it yourself off eBay if you have to, the mechanic will probably buy the full-price one then add 100% mark-up.
