Hello, my name is Sam, I’m a freshman at the university of Kansas City Missouri, I am an Apple Watch software developer, a pitcher and a Dreamer. I pitched throughout all of high school. I threw a 12-6 curveball, a four seam fastball, a splitter and a circle change. I was never great early on however by my senior year I got the hang of it. I could get guys out my mixing up my stuff. I could hit 82 maybe? Well anyway, after my high school career ended I decided to take a break from baseball. I didn’t think I had a future in it, well that is until lately. About 6 months ago, I suffered a pretty awful hand injury. My right hand (pitching hand) got completely sliced up by some glass. I nearly lost three fingers and it made my middle finger numb. As I was recovering, I began throwing again in preparation to help a few friends on the softball team with throwing mechanics. As I began throwing however, I realized that the injury to my hand had created some super strange spin on the ball and as a result, crazy movement on some of my pitches. Intrigued, I began working out, training, and compiling research to perhaps explain how I am getting the movement on these pitches. In this process, after compiling two journals full of notes, I had increased my skills to a new level. I now throw a sinker with amazing hand side movement and vertical/ horizontal run. A cutter thrown with the exact same grip though i pronate later in my delivery. The cutter and sinker that I throw have the exact same look. But do two completely different things when thrown. I have also picked up a better curveball, a devastating slider, and a changeup. To further my studies I have been working with professors and friends to help develop my own technology using the Apple Watch to measure velocity, control (catcher has a Watch, Calls for a pitch then measures how accurately a pitcher can hit his spots) and movement by measuring when a pitcher properly pronates or when he needs improvement. This fall I am applying for a research grant from umkc to potentially secure funds for development for this passion project. A mound. Finding a mound I can use has been nearly impossible. There are so few fields with public mounds and my school doesn’t have a baseball team so I’ve had to hand make dirt mounds by fields to attempt to make a realistic mound. I need a mound so badly to complete fully the research i seek to finish for this grant. Though it has been difficult to find a mound for a reasonable price, I came across a video from my favorite KZfaq coach joe madden who showed off one of your mounds. I’m absolutely in love. Everything looks so amazing about your work. I applaud you for your hard work and dedication. It has been difficult for me to make money or get a job due to my inability to write or pick up anything with any amount of weight using my right hand. all I ask is the opportunity to talk to you about some options for my situation..
