5:49 one my quarantine projects is cleaning my father’s trombone that he received in middle school and hasn’t played since college. I doubt he cleaned it. Wish me luck.

A clean trombone also gives one a better slide action. Caveat: Slides must also be correctly aligned or even cleaning won't help.

Slide health tip - when wiping the slide, hold the same side you're wiping to avoid twisting/pulling from one slide tube to the other. This can create alignment problems. ;-)

Same. I play at my school in band and we only wash it at the end of the year every year so the other kids can get a nice new clean trombone but this is my first time washing it and if i ruin it imma cry- lmao

Hey Paul, Been enjoying your videos a lot lately! Thanks for all the great content. The horn ive been playing on is a 50 year old Yamaha. I found that any sort of bath no matter the temp of the water causes my lacquer to peel. Any suggestions on other ways to clean it? Im really trying to swing getting a B.A.C with in the next year.... what beautiful horns!

Are you using the bach silver, gold, and nickel polishing cloth on the slide? If not, are you picky about what you use to wipe stuff off the slide? I usually use toilet paper

I started out with Amsdens Book of Duets. But it aside for years and recently found it. It says about running water through the horn before playing every day. Do you think this is old fashioned or do you think this is worth doing? Carole

You need to clean out the inside of the tubes every day. Goo collects where the mouthpiece fits in the horn.

We don't have a bathtub anymore, it was replaced with a walk-in shower, anything I can do about that or do I need to resort to some other tub?

You can also give it a shower, just rinse it all(with soap if u want) And make sure to rinse the insides a lot more than the outside. If you want you can take the tuning slide off because it’s better if you are showering it. And just clean it with your snake etc. Pretty much do what he says expect you can’t soak it, just rinse it thoughorly

I have been cleaning my horns for at least 65 years: Get a cleaning rod for trombones or rifles and use gun cleaning patches for the inside of the outer tubes. Don't use too many and get it stuck. Clean out [every day] where the mouthpiece goes into the horn with cotton swabs [like the ones for dogs ears cleaning.] Even with minimum playing, goo collects there though you don't see it from the outside.
