Learn how to clean soap scum off of your shower door and prevent it from returning. This project is for anyone who can't stand looking at their grimy shower doors. We share how to use vinegar and baking soda to clean soap scum and hard water stains off of glass shower doors. Then we use a common automotive product to prevent this hazy film from coming back.

I simplified it a bit by skipping the vinegar/baking soda part. I started by spraying the RainX into my eyes and now I don't see the soap scum at all! Thanks.

I was looking for a product to remove glass scum from shower glass. you know what all I tried... here is the list. Ajax glass cleaner, Ajax all purpose, jiff, oil, petrol, sodium carbonate with vinegar, nail remover, Palmolive dishwashing liquid, 30second mould cleaner, janola, scum cleaner (forgot the name) finally what it did worked was SUNLIGHT dishwashing liquid (it's a gold colour liquid in new Zealand). you don't know how happy I was :)

You can also use a tad drop of baby oil with some water to spray on and wipe on the glass that will bead the shower water off like Rain-X. does

You've got a good point RonE Lee. That said, not everyone has a detachable shower head. And Rain-X isn't a ton of money. One can will last a very long time, I'm guessing more than a year. It's good to have options.

Well a big thank you for advertising this I do it and everything goes as you said Thanks again ...but first I do it with lemon live it for 10 minutes then I apply your ingredients Exactly as you said !! So it comes as new as before ..

Hi Cynder, I'd test this on your tiles in an inconspicuous area first before applying it everywhere. Maybe apply it to a small area, clean it off, wait a day and then see if it's okay. Sorry I can't be more specific but it's always tough to answer questions when I can't see the materials. Hope this helps a bit though.

Hi Luz, a lot of people like using lemon but I don't know if it has the same effect as Rain-X. Lemons are great at cutting through grime because of the acidity but I'm not sure how long the residue will stay on the glass. I'll keep an eye for a more natural repellant. If you find one in the meantime please let me know.

I've used Kaboom before with great success. Wet & Forget Shower is also a wonderful option, but you have to be patient with it (like 4-6 weeks). Some people have had success with Tilex and CLR but since my wife has bad asthma there's no way I can use these products. Hope some of this helps you out.

You don't need to use Rain-X but it will help the water bead and roll off your glass shower doors. And as a consequence you're doors won't have soap scup or hard water deposits on them. So it's more of a preventive procedure.

I am a rainex user for 30 years on my car. I reapply it as soon as I hear word of rain. I feel sorry for people who need their windshield wipers and don't know about it. Now some of the storm chasers use it. Never thought of it on my shower doors. It works on everything too.

I have a plain glass (not frosted or anything) shower door that has been holding onto soap scum and hard water stains for about a decade now and I have tried EVERYTHING to get it off and nothing worked. Even professional grade products that promised results didn't even touch it. This worked WONDERS! Every time in the past I would try to get it off and would just curse myself for not insisting on some other kind of glass that would not be as obvious that it was dirty. Now it looks brand spanking new. I'm off to get rain x right now. Thank you!!!

The RainX trick is pretty smart, but how safe/healthy is it for humans to use in shower. That's usually meant for outdoor uses. Baking soda and vinegar is amazing!

Rain-X is used on car windows and makes the water roll off. So it's kinda like a wax. You would probably want to check in auto parts stores or places that sell car stuff :)

Thanks Jingyuan for your question. If you use more vinegar than is necessary to create sodium acetate there will be leftover vinegar to help with the scrubbing action. The leftover slurry is also abrasive enough to remove deposits on your door. Hope this helps a bit.

l'd never have thought of rain repellent for my shower door, cheers for that tip, mate. :) The limescale on my door is psychotically stubborn. l'm really hoping the vinegar and soda paste works. Straight vinegar has thus far failed. :/

It works, except I used a semi-wet micro fiber cloth to rinse and dry the glass... but I'm not going to use RainX... maybe I'll leave a micro fiber cloth by the shower and dry the surface every time I finished shower, which means I have to make sure I'm always the last one to take the shower ;-) Anyway, the beauty of KZfaq videos, even though this clip was uploaded over 3 years ago, it still helps me and other people :-)

Any silicon based sprays will work as water repellents. Tire shine aerosols are usually made from silicon and is very cheap. Make sure it is a clear spray. Silicon is also non toxic.

I used the dawn and vinegar mix and it didn't work at all. The fumes ran me outta the bathroom too. I'm gonna try ur solution. I've sold my house and I just can't remove the scum and deposits off the glass.

Take the shower door off, lay it flat, sprinkle the baking soda all over the glass, spray the vinegar over the baking soda with a spray bottle, scrape with a blade. This way you never have to wonder about your solution sticking or being strong enough or whatever.

The best cleaners I use are either Bar Keepers Friend or Greased Lightening. Its easy and the doors look like new.

Rain-X is great....but I use a Spray Car Was on mine (Top Shelf Final Detail Instant Spray Wax). I get it on Amazon.com Works GREAT! Also my truck still has a great shine....and it's 10 years old!

I have used a clay base glass cleaner used on windshields of autos as well as RainX as a preventer. The problem seems to be finding the clay base glass cleaner on the market. You can find them in auto stories anymore.

believe it or not- shampoo and a medium Scotch sponge (like used in the kitchen to clean dishes) works great! Cleans shower curtains, too.

Add the vinegar to the baking soda so that it makes paste. You can modify the thickness so that it can spread on your shower door's glass. It doesn't have to be perfect ;)

To make your glass cleaning process even faster n using less effort, get one of those rechargeable spinning brush cleaner. It clean much much better than doing it manually 😁

Hi Jeff, could you please tell me what is the best method to cleaning those dark areas that appear on caulking around a bathtub? I don't knwoe if it's mold. I have started to wipe dry the area after showering, but those old sports are tough to get out. Any ideas. Thanks. BTW: Your videos are very informative. Will be signing up to your website.

LordStanley thanks for the kind words. Not sure what the blacks spots would be, most likely mold or mildew. You could try Wet N Forget Shower for a month and see if that makes a difference. I use it every week because it's a surfactant and doesn't have any harsh chemicals that smell.

Adding baking soda to the vinegar increases the pH essentially making a smelly abrasive rendering the vinegar obsolete. Try vinegar in a spray bottle works just as good I'd not better then wait and wipe clean.

Jeff Patterson OMG! I followed all your instructions. what a difference!!! After I wiped off the baking soda and vinegar, i used the rain x regular automotive glass cleaner until it was streak-free, then rain x 2 in 1 glass cleaner and rain repellent that comes in a spray can first. Then I added a second coat of the 2 in 1 glass cleaner + rain repellent spray and I allowed it to dry all night. HUGE DIFFERENCE! today is day 3 and all we do is squeegee after shower it looks so clean and no water spots! Today I used a microfiber cloth... it works even better! I am a believer now and I fell in love with my shower glass doors all over again! Thank you so much for sharing the great video and tips!

Hi Jeff! I have marble on my shower floor so I'm reticent to use a vinegar solution on my shower doors What do you think? If I rinse it right down Do you think it will be ok? My marble has been sealed thank you for your remarks

Kathleen Sauer you can always test the marble with a small dose of vinegar and see what happens. Do this on a small section, maybe 2x2 inches. If all is good then use the vinegar to clean the doors :D
