In this video I will give you an in depth step by step guide of how to collect a resurrection jar that Father Fish has made famous. I have collected a bunch of them over the last year so I will share my experiences collecting them and also share some of the knowledge I have learned by doing extensive research not only watching Father Fish videos but by exploring his Discord channel and all the great and useful information that it contains.
If you have a dirted tank and are interested in collecting one of these jars or maybe you have but weren’t sure if you did something correctly this video is for you. And if there is anything I might have missed or any other tips or tricks you have found please share them in the comments and let’s all learn together.
Now if you haven’t already please go to ‪@FatherFish‬ and subscribe to his incredibly helpful and informative channel if you haven’t already and check out that Discord channel. You will not be disappointed.
If you haven’t subscribed to my channel please consider doing so and join me in thinking outside the box and taking a step back into nature.

I completely get the hesitation, I had it too! That’s why you watch the jars for a good 30 days so you can see if there is anything you need to remove. That being said I get it’s not for everyone and it’s completely fine. You can also collect one and if you find daphnia or something along those lines remove them and put them into another container to culture for free food. Thanks for watching 👍😁

Me again Patty. After I posted I remember watching a Father Fish episode recently where he had another interesting guest on. Thanks Chris, honestly the biggest part with this style of tank is getting past all the do’s and don’ts that we were told of how to maintain a tank. I get the apprehension, I was totally nervous about it at first as well. When I added those 2 jars in my 75 like a month ago almost all the leaf litter is already gone and has been great for the tank thus far. I definitely will work on an identification video for sure. @@pattys_aquatics I have. Some peoples are keeping the same resurection jar forever (I do not know how, maybe water change, filters..), what will you do? Always get a new resurection jar from local water and wait 30 days? If I remember correctly, father's fish talks about adding one leaf from the jar every weak. And what about the dry leaves, can you keep them forever in a bucket without any isssue? What is your opinion?
@pattys_aquatics
@pattys_aquatics Ай бұрын
@@DarkyXNicolas I have gotten new jars everytime and waited the 30 days. What I have been doing which you will see in an upcoming video is there is some gunk left in jar and I fill it with tank water and add dry leaves to it to soak. There are still microorganisms in these jars but you can add portions of the jar instead of the whole jar as well but would still wait the 30 days. As far as the dry leaves yeah they are completely fine to store that way forever probably, as long as there is no moisture in it that could cause mold. Hope that helps 😁👍

Well explained video! I probably would've just grabbed dirt/sediment from the bottom had I not seen this. Out of curiosity, would you recommend taking from a water source with good flow over a stagnant source, or any time of year being being better for collecting?
@pattys_aquatics
@pattys_aquatics 3 ай бұрын
Thanks Tara I appreciate it! Honestly I don’t think it matters the water flow or time of year. I have collected through the ice and in the heat of summer and with a river raging and have talked to people that collected out of freestanding puddles. Life is everywhere 😁 I did find more worms or larvae in the summer months I noticed, probably because that’s when all the insects are out and breeding but other than that it hasn’t made a difference. Hello there Patty. I just recently began doing the ff methods. Just set up my tank. I'm on day 2. I was looking up Resurrection jars and once of your other videos came up. I subscribed and am watching more😊 I went to a local pond area and collected for my resurrection jars about a week ago. In your video i see where you grabbed the dry leaves and put them in a jar with water. Is that regular tap water you put them in? How long do you watch those leaves before putting in (just) the leaves? I'm loving your very informative videos
@pattys_aquatics
@pattys_aquatics 2 ай бұрын
Hello and thank you, I put the dry leaves in a resurrection jar that’s sat for its 30 days. I collect more than one jar at a time so I can have one just for adding leaves to. After the intial jar is added to your aquarium and the leaf litter is breaking down and disappearing that’s when you add the leaves that were soaked in the spare jar to your tank. As far as how long to soak them it’s up to you. I have had some that leached tannins so I let them to be done not to add that to my tank but otherwise just a few days so they sink. Plus with using the spare jar more microorganisms will collect on those leaves and are added to your tank. Hope that helped and thank you very much for watching. If you have more questions feel free to ask 😁👍
