Muito interessante--aprendi espanhol antes de começar a estudar português, e pelo que entendi é que em espanhol, o verbo "haber" (haver em português) pode ser usado de forma intercambiável com "ter" para falar sobre a existência de algo. Outros cursos de português pelos quais passei ensinaram o mesmo - que "haver" ou "ter" pode significar "there is" ou "there are".

Você está correto. Em português podemos usar tanto 'haver' quanto 'ter' para falar da existência de algo. No entanto, na fala coloquial, usamos 'ter' com muito mais frequência do que 'haver'. 😊

I don’t hear much of a difference in the sound of tem and têm. Do you think it sounds different? Sorry, my Portuguese isn’t strong enough yet to ask in Portuguese 😕 Soon!

Do you know why you hear no difference? Because there is no difference. 😃 Here, 'têm' (3rd person plural) takes the written mark to be distinguished from 'tem' (3rd person singular). Both should be pronounced with a closed 'e'. 😊

@@PlainPortuguese oh thanks I am doing quite well when it comes to written Portuguese than spoken Portuguese for now. Sometimes it’s just too fast I guess I have to work on my listening skills..
