I would NEVER hire this guy to do plumbing. He could (well should) have gotten a "T" adapter after the cold water valve. If that saddle valve ever leaks you have to turn off the main water line and drain the water pressure to fix the leak.

I actually agree with you. They do make t valves now that work great for this application if you have easy access to a shut off valve nearby. Your method is preferred. This was an older condominium where all units get turned off if there is any maintenance done.

@@vinnythehandymanMy home was built in 1967 so most of my fixtures are just as old. I had a plumber almost 5 years ago use one of these underneath my kitchen sink so I could have a refrigerator like this. No problems at all, in fact I just replaced my sink shut off valve as it was leaking and the work is still holding up well.

Great video. I wouldn't recommend a saddle valve they will leak over time. Also they are a code violation in most states. If you have a leak and water damage and your insurance carrier see this value installed they will deny your claim.

Totally agree! Anytime I do new remodels I will add a shut off valve in the wall for refrigerator. Excellent point on insurance claim. Never considered that scenario. Thanks for you insight and watching my video.

I appreciate the comment Rich! Just like cars... at some point something will go wrong and hopefully there's information on KZfaq to help accomplish that task with minimal cost. I run into so many scenarios that eventually someone will benefit from it. Just like your channel providing DIY on supercars. Sharing the experience is fun.

Ahh man sorry bud. If it’s installed just buy the extra parts so Appliance people can hook up. The braided water line will be 1/4”. Just make sure the two ends can connect. I guarantee they won’t have parts. Good luck 👍

Those saddle valves will get your project uncertified in almost every state. They just don’t last.

For anyone coming here and reading the comments. Do not ever buy a saddle valve. They crush your pipe. And will eventually leak when the rubber on them wears out. Do a proper job and and put a t in it. They even make t connections made to screw in between the faucets line and the shutoff there.

Hello, I have a question. I already have copper tubing connected to the fridge. I began having a leak, so shut the valve off. But somehow, I still have some water leak( not a major leak), I have been collecting the water coming down from the freezer section down to the refrigerator section. Does this mean my water valve is faulty? That is the only thing I can think up. My fridge is 20 years old, and I am ready to replace it. I want to address the problem correctly. Thank you.

The shut off valve may be OK. It could be leaking from the top plastic tubing that goes to the water maker and ice machine. If the leak is up top that means it’s flowing downward to the copper piping. What I would do is wrap a small towel or paper towel around the waterline that goes to the refrigerator on the backside And then see if your copper piping is leaking both at the same time leaking process of elimination first.

@vinnythehandyman I forgot to mention that it has been 3 weeks with the valve off, and while the valve is off position, I am still collecting water that I empty every few days. I don't know if that makes sense to you.😅

Shark-bite has a new fitting that has dual shutoff valves for same purpose. I also did a video on that as well. I personally don’t like saddle valves either.

Does anyone know how I would be able to add this to a black hose? My sink is the newer ones and the faucet came with the black hoses that bend easy and there’s no pipes. How would I be able to connect my fridge? Appreciate anyone who has an idea. I didn’t think of it when I was remodeling and now I’m screwed

Black hoses are only for faucet. You will need a new cold water shut off valve that has a 3/8” and 1/4” for ice maker. Shark bite makes one that you can install. I need to do a video on this because it comes up a lot.

NO SADDLE VALVES! if you cant put a T between the end of the copper and the supply line then cut rhe copper and put in a Sharkbite T with a 1/4" male connection to the water line.
