Controlling your intensity while shooting archery is something that high scoring archers do every shot. This is a fairly easy technique to master especially since most of controlling intensity is done mentally. Anyone can apply this technique to their style of shooting.

I worked on this technique today, that pause in intensity you talk about. Can confirm tighter groups. I will keep at this.

so good to see this. I experienced it and was worried that i would maybe do something wrong by relaxing into anker and aiming.

Thanks, something for me to concentrate on. I find that letting out some of my breath at that point of transfer helps drop intensity - though I forget to breathe there more often than not and it shows in the result

Wow, sounds simple but probably will take a while to get it into the system :)

Brilliant. Struggling with this at the moment because I don't get to shoot every week (thanks COVID-19). But usually I have a fairly flat curve, I've always used archery as a method of meditation, with a three breath cycle. Can't wait to start shooting regularly again, but having to drop my draw weight massively, which I am not enjoying.

Adam Kilroe ,you may want to try an astra shot trainer as it allows one to practice without an arrow. You can combine it with a limb clicker to achieve more realism. Good Shooting! GaryA. Mickus

@@garymickus6412, thank you for the idea, but I'm finding it frustrating shooting 48lbs, it's like twanging an elastic band. My regular bow is 72lbs. I think I'm going to rig up something similar with some oak and some heavy bungee

@@garymickus6412 been shooting on and off for 32 years. It's not so much strength as technique. I had a short note set up for shooting off my thumb, nice and quite heavy at 63lbs at 30". The housekeeper where I worked was a lovely lady who had never picked up a bow in her life. She was a bit older than me, and at 5' 11", two inches taller too, and slightly built."Can I have a try?" "It's rather heavy, just don't let go of the string or that can damage the bow.". She drew it past her ear like it was knicker elastic, 33" and 72lbs. Then I noticed she was only using two fingers and talking constantly at this extended draw for nearly a minute. My jaw was on the floor. She would have been a brilliant archer, but she didn't take it up. Apart from drawing it way too far, her technique was absolutely perfect, and I mean perfect. I have NEVER seen such perfect technique ever. Jake's Form Series has helped me massively, if you haven't seen it, watch it. If I use the same technique that most beginners seem to use, I struggle with 30lbs.

Adam, Have watched Jake’s series both tuning and form and found them useful. Check out Arne Moe (rotational draw) and Online Archery Academy both on Utube. Envy the housekeeper’s strength! Gary

My shot ends pretty much there, when the clicker clicks, and then it’s 📈📉📈📉📈📉. Perhaps that should be my next area of improvement.

Can we generally say that higher physical strength, in archery, can generally lower intensity as well? I would be like giving Jake a 20# bow. His strength far exceeds the draw weight of the bow, so his intensity is like a 0.30

This helps, but mentally having the intensity lower during transfer and gradually increase through expansion is the key.
@ttneiltt1
@ttneiltt1 3 жыл бұрын
Never really considered this but must admit that I’m that first line. I assume that a key point in this is that you need perfect alignment at full draw to allow reducing intensity while still expanding? Would that mean that needing to ramp up intensity throughout the shot indicates poor alignment?
@JakeKaminskiArchery

Approach it from a mental standpoint to start, even just having the concept of how to manage intensity will help.
