In this video, I show you how to make a hot breakfast using a military surplus canteen cup stove and a twig fire. I also use the Pathfinder 1 qt bushpot to boil some water for my beverage. This is a great way to cook outdoors with minimal equipment and fuel. It’s simple, fast, and budget-friendly. Watch and enjoy!

Got me salivating for apples and cinnamin oatmeal. I have to look hard to find it instant and sugar free. The store you worked for has it but not my local and they are out even to order. Other places have reduced sugar or just plain expensive. I have an older folding steel twig stove I bought 15 years ago. It's heavy and warps. That's where the canteen model is much better. Light weight in comparison and doesn't warp.

I use regular Oatmeal with Banana, Salt to taste, Cocoa and/or Milk Powder, Cinnamon, Cayenne Pepper and Honey (if I'm for the extra sweetness on the day). The Oats cooks in 5 minutes and considering the price difference between it and the Instant stuff, well worth the wait .. and better taste 😊. Mix everything together at home beforehand and place into a plastic bag. If you have dehydrated a sliced banana beforehand, haul it out of the freezer and add to the mix. Delicious and cheap!

@@thomasmusso1147 I do that at times, but I have to have no sugar and the packaged ones are for my vehicle and packs. Sometimes I will grab one for a fast supper espeacially if I am in the middle of a project.

I've never seen someone work so hard to heat (not boil) water! Takes a lot less time if you don't have to pull your pot off the stove to add fuel to it.

It would be a good stove for a smaller pot or a canteen cup, but the stove is small for that 1qt pot. Maybe making a stove from a soup that slides over the pot would make a better size stove.

A little off the topic, here, but I wanted to mention this little trick before I forget it. I think I learned this as a boy, from my mother or my grandmother. It may have been something one of them learned from the Girl Scouts. Old fashioned Neutrogena unscented glycerin soap can be used for almost all your washing needs. You can was your hands or body, your hair, your dishes or clothes (if necessary). You can even use it to brush your teeth. It is mild and does not dry out the skin, and rinses clean.

One of my biggest complaints of the SRO canteen stove seems to be it's lack of airflow. I'll have to try your technique with it and see if I can do any better. I've had some success with turning the stove upside down and laying twigs into it that way and putting a little grate over it but that's just even more weight and stuff to bring. It just goes to show, it's hard to beat the original design.

I like to add a couple of ounces of peanuts to my oatmeal to give me a meal that sticks with me for hours. Peanuts add good fat and protein. Dry roasted or honey roasted peanuts are my first choice but any kind of nuts will add calories to your meal. Also, You dont have to heat your oatmeal. You can add water and stir it uo and Eat it cold. Here again that will slow down the digestion so the meal stays with you longer. Heat is just the comfort fasctor. In cold weather by all means heat it up. But try it cold with nuts in it.

Sorry, Blackie. That's a canteen cup stove. It wasn't made for wood, I was made for solid fuel heat tabs. It was designed so that the bottom of the canteen cup could fit snugly in the top of the stove. COMPLETELY filling the top, so there's no place to put fuel in the side. The opening in the bottom is NOT designed to scrape coals under your pot, that's YOU modifying it! It exists so that the stove will fit around the butterfly handles on the cup when nested together. I appreciate your content, but don't start making stuff up. I've got 9 years of heating meals in these things, and while I use wood today, I've never put a pot halfway on it. Seems like a good idea, but don't tell people it was designed that way. Thanks for continuing to make videos.
