**Edited to add: If you are new to brining, start with 1/4 cup salt + 1/4 cup sugar! Many people think my 1/2 cup is too salty!!
I've been eating a LOT of chicken throughout my weight loss journey. So, it's vital for sticking with my diet to have chicken pre-cooked, meal prepped, and ready to go.
I use this chicken EVERY DAY in my salad for lunch. I add other veggies I have on hand, plus dressing.
I also use this chicken for dinner by pairing it with veggies and sweet potatoes or rice for dinner.
SO QUICK AND EASY

I finally tried this and cooked the chicken in a cast iron skillet. It was amazing!! My husband, teens, and 2 year old love it. My husband said it's the best chicken I have ever cooked. Thank you!

Nice!! It used to be I could only get juicy chicken with chicken thighs, and my family would NEVER eat breasts. Now, they do. I'm so glad I found this way too!

You are so right, meal prepped chicken breast is a huge help when you are trying to stick to a meal plan! I tried the brine for my family after reading your blog article a few weeks ago and everyone loved it! Thanks for doing a video with all of the different cooking options.

It might be too salty for some people, Not for me!. But, you might want to start with a little less salt if you don't like a lot of salt!! @diannekoval4773

Great video thanks! When you log your chicken calories do you count it differently with the brine or just as regular plain cooked chicken? Just curious if the sugar in the brine makes a difference or if it's minimal enough to not count it - thank you!

Great question. I've tracked it with the brine before (once), but I normally don't. I have a full breakdown of calories, sodium, and macros with brined and unbrined chicken over here healthbeet.org/classic-chicken-brine-for-chicken-with-the-juiciest-flavor/ But in a nutshell, 1 ounce raw, un-brined chicken=27.5 calories/0g carbs/11.25mg sodium for the chicken. After adding brine, 1 ounce of chicken has= 31.5 calories/1g carb/46.25 mg sodium. A 4 ounce piece of raw chicken contains = 126 calories, 4 g carbs/ 185 mg sodium After cooking, a 3.5 ounce piece of cooked chicken would have the same as the 4 ounce piece of chicken.

I tried the brine from your blog a few weeks ago and it came out really salty. I had to throw it away. Are you using kosher salt or regular table salt?

Thanks for letting me know. Someone else had the same problem. Did you use the lemon and herbs? I used iodized table salt

We have to watch our sodium. Can we use a salt substitute like Morton’s or does the brining depend on that amount of sodium?
@HealthBeet
@HealthBeet Жыл бұрын
YES! I just read a test about using a salt substitute, and it said, " Potassium chloride provides the same negative ions as table salt, and thus has a nearly identical effect when used in a brine."
